Everybody hates on the berimbolo game, this is a great technically sound match, Mikeys bjj is DOPE and both of these competitors do what is comfortable to them whether it be running across the mat or doing nothing but berimbolos, but guess what its thier game and the are would class athletes so it seems to be working for them. GREAT MATCH OSS!
Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like a Miyao. Now you put a Miyao into a cup, he becomes the cup. You put a Miyao into a bottle, he becomes the bottle. You put him in a teapot, he becomes the teapot. Now a Miyao can flow or he can crash. Be a Miyao, my friend.
Not everyone, no. I am aware, I compete, doesn't make it right though. Look for Buchecha x Rodolfo fights, they often stop the referee from memorizing the grips and restart the position by themselves, in absolutes IBJJF finals matches, doesn't get any higher level than that.
I know the instances you're talking about and they are precluded by relatively simple grips and positions. the miyaos are regularly reset in positions of great complication. they play the game better than anyone else out there.
When the fight is restarted in this kind of positions it's the referees fault, sometimes they try to restart the fighters from a scramble/awkward position, so yeah, you need to fight for your grips and you need to do it fast. I'm only pointing out that sometimes the Miyaos are extremely agressive while the bouts are on hold, to the point that the referee has to correct their grips and position 3 to 4 times and they keep on trying to improve grips and position (unfortunatly I don't have an example in mind, but I've seen it, for sure). I'm not a hater, I've been inspired a lot by their "back take"/crab ride game and they do play the game better than anyone else out there. Anyways, that concludes our pointless internet discussion for the day, have a nice day and keep on training.
Neither of them were expecting the other to tap. You get an advantage for submission attempts, hence half the match they were stuck in a neutral position, looking from their opponent, to the referee, to the scoreboard, and back to the referee.
My BJJ style is based around berimbolo too but for gods sakes don't sprint across the mat and hop around like fireworks are about to go off and then try to berimbolo people it is ironic.
D'Arce Vader BJJ Exactly what I'm saying. Keenan Cornelius did exactly that and he and Miyao got disqualified in one of the most bigoted decisions in BJJ history.
There was plenty of opportunities for Joao to take the back or use leverage to gain and keep a dominant position and stay on top. I didn't like his game here.
Miyao is frustrated by the same game been played back on him, don't really like this as it's not really martial arts, I prefer the more basic realistic positions myself.but it defo works for these situations unfortunately.
Perfect example why Jujitsu is going down the toilets. Nobody wants to watch this shit. So boring. I can only watch the light to heavy weights divisions because of all this spaghetti leg shit. The only saving grace in BJJ is the Riberio association. Lets make the sport beautiful again. Heillo Gracie would be turing in his grave.
This is competition based BJJ, whatever works to beat you’re opponent. No one asked you to watch it. A lot of people hate Gordon Ryan and Garry Tonon for his leg lock game but it’s a neglected submission and they’re always there to attack, plain and simple.
Helio Gracie in his prime would also get the shit beat out of him by todays world class purple belts. And just like Joshua said noone asked you to watch it.
Imagine this, Musumeci or Miyao in a street fight locking a dela riva hook with the pant grip. They couldn't get a collar grip to break posture so they grab your hair instead. I'd like to see someone punching through that. Moreover, the moment you drop an arm to defend a berimbolo, you get straight armbar.
You're fucking drunk. This is dope as hell. You're seeing two dudes who are the best at the same thing taking each other on. You get to see how to deal with DLR guard, how to deal with hooks, the grip battle, etc. at the highest level. If you're bored, you're stupid.
Great watch. It will be great when IBJJF can display the score on these videos
My ankle broke just watching this..
i agree 100%. my ankle was hurting just watching that. insane

This is good example how to beat Miyao, you have to become shapless, formless, like a Miyao...

aww the Miyaos, always trying to improve position/grips before the restart of the match. It's getting old.
you ever been in high level comps? EVERYONE does this. down to the white belts.
Not everyone, no. I am aware, I compete, doesn't make it right though. Look for Buchecha x Rodolfo fights, they often stop the referee from memorizing the grips and restart the position by themselves, in absolutes IBJJF finals matches, doesn't get any higher level than that.

Essa luta é um grande incentivo pra quem deseja praticar Bjj.
É um incentivo para quem quer chegar aonde eles chegaram.....acredito que qualquer um preferiria querer estar aonde eles estão do que aonde você está.
Nice job Michael!!!!
achei que joao tinha ganhado...
Também foi um robo
João Miyao doesn't tap to heal hooks and foot locks. People don't learn. Smh.
they know but its still good to get the advantage point

I had no idea Mickey used to be affiliated with Atos.
He's a gym hopper. He's trained with so many teams now.
Mikey is a beast!
Mikey is so interesting to watch.
Is that samir chantre sitting in the chair ??
Christopher Murillo yes
My BJJ style is based around berimbolo too but for gods sakes don't sprint across the mat and hop around like fireworks are about to go off and then try to berimbolo people it is ironic.
If you don't like the berimbolo, don't get caught in it :)
D'Arce Vader BJJ Exactly what I'm saying. Keenan Cornelius did exactly that and he and Miyao got disqualified in one of the most bigoted decisions in BJJ history.
I don’t see how he won
There was plenty of opportunities for Joao to take the back or use leverage to gain and keep a dominant position and stay on top. I didn't like his game here.
