Diana is known for having a powerful voice like a cannon. Everybody knows she can blow us away with her voice. So, what happens when she chooses not to use that power? This song is like she is painting with her voice instead of firing her heavy artillery. And you know what? Diana paints very very well!
The problem in this show is that Diana can't chose the songs she has to sing except for one episode. And many of the songs she had to sing so far didn't challenge her vocal capabilities and forced her to explore emotions more or less unknown to her. Even the third song from last week was about a rebellious Cossack from the 17th century who had a dream that probably foreshadowed his death. How should Diana relate to such a song? And still she did very well. "Twist in my Sobriety" isn't designed to show strong emotions. The singer instead acts more or less overtly cool, as it nothing can touch them emotionally. However, the suppressed emotions like loneliness and insecurity usually can be felt throughout the performance but only subtle. As beautiful as this song is, it isn't competition material. This happened now more or less now three times in a row to Diana. I don't know what the organizers are doing here. Something from Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin or Celine Dion would've been a far better choice.

ROFL about the chair. I fell off one similar once. Several times in other episodes of the show they had people balancing a bit precariously on wobbly chairs and in the last edition the lads had a running joke about the naff step ladder used as a prop in one of the routines. I think the producers spent all their money on VR staging and had to cut back on physical props. 🤣 Doesn't take anything away from Diana Ankudinova's performance though. She needs no props.

Diana might be a bit shy and overwhelmed sometimes but she probably doesn't feel insecure and alone in general and that's what "Twist in my Sobriety" actually is about. It's about someone who just stepped into adulthood and feels alone and insecure but doesn't want the other adults to see it. So the singer acts overtly cool and seems not to care but you as listener are supposed to feel the suppressed inner emotions during the performance. Diana gave this song a more intimate touch but you can only do so much with such a song. And just so you know, I like both Tanita's original and Diana's interpretation a lot.
