Ansatsu [アサシン] is one of my latest commission songs that I've completed this summer. It's one of the more fun commissions I've had, which starts with the buildup, then shifts to the assassination, and finally ending on an escape theme. I've used many oriental instruments in this song such as shakuhachis, pipas... Enjoy the 9/8 time.
Now I think the last few seconds of the video is clipped. Don't worry about that, just go to the downloads and you'll find the song in full (I've just moved to new video editing software so it's an adjustment).

While I love the song, I have to ask you for your source that 'Ansatsu' means assassin. The pronunciation for assassin in japan is asashin. Your title also has the phonetic characters that spell out 'asashin.'
"Ansatasu" (暗殺) literally means "assasination" in Japanese
***** That's what I thought, but Carbon said that 'Ansatsu' means assassin when it doesn't. He even used the katakana for 'asashin' right next to ansatsu, when traditionally the katakana should match the romanization. That's mainly what I was asking.

Alright prepare for a mini rollercoaster
So I'm dyslexic. (And for those of you who don't know what that is I'll quickly explain) Dyslexia is a type of mental thing. It's not really a mental disease. Just a sort of... learning? Disability. It's different for literally every single person who has it, but one thing they all have in common is trouble with reading/writing/speaking/communicating, math, and science, and are incredibly creative. Some may have more trouble than others and some may have none at all with 1 or more of those. Personally I struggle with math because of the numbers (though with patience and time I can do well), communicating thoughts/feelings, and getting letters/words/numbers reversed/placed in the wrong order. (I nearly texted my friend "Where at is?" instead of "Where is it at?" earlier)

Because for the entire few months I've known this song I read it as "Anatsu" and JUST NOW realized it was "Ansatsu" and I am so confused.

That Japanese translated is "Assassin" and is pronounced "A-sa-shin" Title Ansatsu is an inaccurate representation of the Japanese you put. The correct one uses Kanji and is 暗殺. Which means assassination.

You kiiiinda spelt ansatsu wrong in katakana. the japanese lettering you have there reads "asatsun" To fix it, you just need to move that last letter so it can read アンサツ
Why the katakana rather than the kanji? (I'm a bit new to the language.)
Katakana are traditionally used to spell out foreign words, and since the kana read "asashin" - the transliteration of "assassin" - katakana were used to represent it.
François Hoffmann I was wondering why he used the characters that depicted the pronunciation rather than the characters 朝真, meaning assassin. Just curious.
Ah, I see. That, I indeed do not know. Stylistic choice, I imagine. _shrugs_
+Editorial 朝真 doesn't mean assassin. With kanji, you can't just go english→katakana→kanji with the same phonetic reading and expect that last step to go through correctly. Assassins are either called 暗殺者 (あんさつしゃ, ansatsusha) or 殺し屋 (ころしや, koroshiya).
FreedomIII Thanks for letting me in on that, actually. I'm relatively new to the language, and my lack of understanding of kanji is letting my IME mislead me! :)
I'm assuming different kanji for the same pronunciation function much like homophones for the English language, and as such have different meanings or belong in different contexts, right?
