    This trailer is good in many ways, but the best part is the vampire's song. Her lyrics suggest Geralt is no different from her. The video begins with her singing of humans lying wide-awake at night fearing ghouls, hags, and wraiths. She ends the song singing of 'monsters' lying wide-awake at night, fearing Witchers. She says, "It's all silent for the night...but one soul lies anxious, wide-awake. For the Witcher... paid in coin of gold, he'll chop and slice, he'll cut and dice, he'll eat you up whole, eat you whole." In short, good and evil is relative. This video does not depict an epic fight between good and evil, but instead a fight between two entities simply trying to survive in a world wrought with madness. This is perhaps most evident in their sympathetic talk before the fight. They're not enemies, just casualties of circumstance.

      Well, great sociological commentary (it really is), until you experience the real encounter of those two in the game which was a prelude to the situation in this trailer; ] Geralt saying "They payed me for you"? Nah, he was very much inclined to visit her without payment

    • @savaralyn0951
      @savaralyn0951 4 роки тому +1

      I mean if you listen to the whole song she's singing about witchers the whole time, and the implication of the 'folk have forgotten it' line implies its a human song. Not really surprising considering that Witchers ARE basically just viewed as monsters by common people anyway, they're just monsters who kill other monsters for coin. The song is more or less just conveying that witchers to normal folk are as dangerous as anything else and only cause pain and misery, so you should stay away from them.

    This cinematic was extremely well done, the cgi was top notch and like you said it really captured the essence of what the Witcher series is about. I love how the bruxa(vampire) is singing this lullaby like song that makes the Witchers out to be the monsters, and It kinda left me feeling sorry for the "monster" in the end. It really does speak to the running theme in the series of the monster is not always an inhuman creature but rather a very human one, and the Withchers i.e Geralt straddle that gray line in between. Can't wait for this game, just finished reading Blood of Elves and you should really consider finishing it before the game as it really delves into Ciri's relationship with Geralt, Yennefer, and even Triss.

    • @BurgundPL
      @BurgundPL 9 років тому +2

    My friend and I stated that same thing. This universe has enough material to make a show. HBO should produce it once GOT is off the air. Everyone and I do mean everyone who watched GOT would watch it. By far the best trailer released this year. Geralt is my hero.

    In my opinion, the Saga books are much more important than the short stories themselves, because large parts of them are told from Ciri's perspective, and Ciri is arguably the main character in the story, all events revolve around her.
    There are 2 short stories, 1 in each collection, that set up the entire arc, those being "A Question of Price" and "Something More".
    So for a speed read just to prepare for Wild Hunt, I would read those 2, and then read the Saga, though it's most likely too late to start now.

    • @Merdo195
      @Merdo195 9 років тому

      Daniel Andersen Yes I would recommend the same and really it is not too late. It's not like you are forced to play the game on launch. The books aren't that long. Takes around 7-10 hours to read one book if I had to guess.

    • @TheDjacdk
      @TheDjacdk 9 років тому

      Merdo195 I would agree, if the last 2 books and Sword of Destiny didnt require you to read on a monitor or tablet since for me, my reading speed was reduced dramatically when I switched from paper after Baptism of Fire, read the first 4 books, including Last Wish in about 3 days, then read Tower of the Swallow, Lady of the Lake and (mistakenly) finished with Sword of Destiny, which took me about another 5 days to read on a borrowed iPad.
      Though I will second the opinion that the fan translations are remarkedly well done, I expected them to be almost unreadable, and they were very close to the official translations in my opinion.

    • @TheDjacdk
      @TheDjacdk 9 років тому +1

      ***** I completely agree that reading all the short stories is a good idea, I was simply suggesting skipping some of the less essential ones if limited on time.
      I know nothing about Season of Storms, other than that it hasn't been translated yet, so I haven't had the chance to read it.

    You are great :)
    As a native Polish I've been reading these books back in 2002 or 2003 when the series of 5 books came out, and shortly it became my beloved story. I loved the characters, atmosphere and dark humor. Back then i couldn't even think that The Witcher game will ever be released, and to be honest I didn't care because the books were so freaking good. I don't know if the english version of books is equally entertaining, but I can tell you from my point of view that the original version is just a masterpiece. I often coming back to this titles.
    Best regards from Ireland. ;)

      +Michal T. I have read the whole saga twice, and I have to say that, as an entertainment product, games are way better than books. I´m sick of reading polish fanboys saying that those novels are the best since Lord of the Rings. Sarkowsky made a great job by creating the characters and the "universe" (and CD Project a better job by recreating it in the game), but altogether, is a very crappy saga of books. At least half of the content of the novels is superfluous. Sarkowsky artificially lengthen the saga just for selling more books. The whole story of Ciri, the elves, the prophecy, etc. don´t have any importance for the outcome of the story and, at the end, it seems that he just get tired of Geralt and kill the main characters just because.

I have never played the game, but have watched a few people play it (via UA-cam). I finished The Last Wish a week ago, and am now 93% finished with Sword of Destiny. I’m loving it. I have all the books in ePub & audiobook (really great to do both). I’m not sure I’ll read Blood of Elves before December 20th, but I may. I have some other books in the queue before it. Someone may have already said it. But the rhyme shes singing is about the Witchers themselves being monsters.
    And not just towards a "real" monster, but in the sense that the Witchers are less than human, dark and near supernatural.
    One of the few, in my opinion, great video game trailers. Whos subtlety is missed by most people. Nice to see you picked up on it from the beginning, (of the series).

    Yeah, I love how Geralt isn't just some OP magic swordsman. He's like that because he had to do research, prepare, drink a shit ton of magic drugs to kill monsters. One thing people don't comment about on this trailer though is the SONG she was singing. Its as if its a scary lullaby/folk tale passed around monsters that he's going to EAT you. Witchers FUCKING EAT monsters, which is a REALLY cool concept which I kind of wished they shoved in our faces more because that is fucking metal.

    I was the same way. The beginning where he had to go after the Princess who was a striga. Man that was another amazing vid. Hooked me ever since. Loved the first game, the second I didn't enjoy as much as the 1st. The third...well that goes into the records as not only a great Witcher game but simply one of the best ever.

    It's so cute when you are really excited about a trailer or something similiar, makes me wanna celebrate with you even though I have already seen it xD
    You know, you remind me a bit of Yennefer with your hair and such o.O
    And I think it was definitely on purpose that this trailer reminded so many of the trailer/intro for the first one, they want to recreate the feeling of the first game to get us all hooked (and it works!) xD

      ihavenousernamelol2 I would say that is the point of the movie and that it captures the feel of the world of The Witcher. After seeing it you are unable to say with certainty who was really the monster here. The lyrics of the song seem to emphasize that.
