- In this video I'll show you how to root your Pixel device the easy way using Android Flash Tool. I will be using Magisk in this guide. If you have any questions, comment down below.

I been seaching to root my pixel for months now. i really thank you for everything. i almost gave up. thank you again!
An issue i have found is sometimes when flashing specifying "boot" results in a failure.
To solve this look at your device and see what boot partition its using.
For example my pixel says boot: b
Then take your flash command and instead of specifying "boot" replace it with "boot_b"

After a long search and deep analyzing and a headache i figured out that i needed to add adb folder in the tools folder but i had adb already with fastboot and magisk patch so i was lost and remembered i had another folder of the tools and thankfully that did it
mine also says boot:b but even with the modified comment to include boot_b, i still get the same rror, boot partition is samller than boot image

IF YOU ALREADY HAVE ANDROID 13 INSTALLED DO NOT FOLLOW THIS AND INSTALL THE LATEST ANDROID 12 AS YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE, MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE EXACT SAME BUILD VERSION ALREADY INSTALLED O. YOUR DEVICE
there was a kernal vuln on Android 12 and they implemented anti rollback if already on a13 and if u try to rollback you'll blow fuses I. the phone making it unusable
also to the creator if u want to protect yourself from mfs sueing u after bricking they phone u might want to have added a disclaimer that you're not advising to do this nor responsible

@Pork is this guide still usable for google pixel 5? Can you still downgrade to android 12 from a newer android version and use this guide?
If you get the "adb : The term 'adb' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet" error for newer versions of powershell you may have to enter ".\adb devices" instead. Took some searching around to find out what to do there. This goes for the fastboot part as well will have to be entered as ".\fastboot"

I have the problem in windows terminal @ 9':20" that "flatform-tools>adb devices" showed error, instead of "flatform-tools>adb devices"; do I need to type in the command you showed:"flatform-tools>.\adb devices" ? Thank you for your guidance.

So, Long story short. there was an OTA update and magisk didn't save my stock boot.img for some reason. i was going through a method to repair the stock boot and that process needed a reboot and even with automatic updates turned off, it still updated and now i don't have root and doing this method now just sends me into a boot loop but I know i at least have the right file because then reflashing all slots to the same stock file allows a boot

9:25 in my case, I had to give confirmation on my device screen to solve the "unauthorized" problem
I saw a comment below but wanted to put one closer to the top. I installed an update which unrooted my phone but my bootloader was still unlocked. I followed the instructions from step 5 (the magisk part) and got it working again. hope this helps someone else

Magisk image on pixel 7a stuck me in an infinite bootloop. I tried to reinstall the original boot.img but it doesnt work. So I reflash the original image usinv bat file to make my device working. Any way to root this?

No, you need a computer to use ADB commands while the phone is in fastboot

Did everything in the video but at the end. When entering the last command "fastboot reboot" , my pixel 4a is stuck booting up with the "G" logo. Im on android 12 and used Magisk 26.3
Same here, bricked phone - after last step it just not booted up, stuck on reboot loop. I guess the problem was that I've used wrong IMAGE on boot.img file step, because during this year that link changed and android not gives full list of avaiable images as it was in video.. So I think ive used some wrong one..
Pixel phones are compatible with rooting as long as they are carrier unlocked and factory unlocked

Man, I've literally never struggled this much to root a phone before. Out the box, I was having issues with not being able to switch the device that was in control to my pc to allow me to transfer files (which im praying is the case cause i have a new USB-C 3.0 Cable coming just in case) I've done all the steps up to getting the bootloader unlocked and flashing then renaming the boot image but now no matter what I do in deleting, installing, or updating drivers. it wont detect my device while in fastboot mode to flash boot the img file. any help please?
Edit: I'm not sure if this is what changed it but I did end up rooting my device, the only thing I did different during the process was as soon as I got to the fastboot section, I entered
Fastboot Devices
And it found the device and the rest of the process worked like normal (nothing else was different. New cord didn't change anything)

I just did this and now have lost touchscreen capability. Crap! My Pixel 3XL might as well be bricked. Tried flashing the original boot.img from the crosshatch zip and still not fixed. SHIT
Reflashed stock factory images. Works. Must have picked the wrong factory boot.img. Argh. Just lost a lot of time, but I've recovered.
Does this work with the latest Magisk? on an Older phone? Recently bought a pixel 5 and got up to step 4 but I'm unsure as to wether to proceed or not since it only says (Magisk v25.2) I'm using Android 13 if that makes any difference.

What happens with software updates? Will having a rooted phone break it? / reset it to default with the newer patch?
And is there a way to UNROOT this after its been rooted? I'm only considering rooting for media recovery.
OTA Software Updates will not work, although there are workarounds. You can Google around and you will find it. It will not reset when you update. And yes, there is a way to unroot and relock the bootloader.

How do I flash custom ROMs after this process is done? I'm so used to using TWRP during the root process and not doing it this way...
You would have to use ADB platform tools by downloading then from Google, or flashing TWRP.

The option at 3:45 doesn't show an 'Unlock the bootloader'. All I see is 'start', 'restart bootloader, 'recovery mode', 'rescue mode', 'barcode'. Should I choose any of these options?
Ok my mistake. Pixel 7's actually use the init_boot.img instead of boot.img. Everything else works the same.
so what do I put as an option at this step please

Once my pixel is rooted and reboots at the end, the screen becomes unable to process any touch commands, forcing me to flash the previous software to enable use of the touch screen. Is there a way around this?

it doesnt work. i followed your steps thoroughly and after everything, my phone is stuck in fastboot mode for eternity. i tried every method online and nothing works to fix this issue.
You have to use the volume keys to reboot the device, if that doesn't work make sure the USB drivers are installed properly on the PC. Then, rerun the android flash tool.

I’m so lost, I’m literally on the last part. On command I can’t open a power shell through platform tools I think that’s the problem. And when I do it manually on adb and fastboot command it says android product out of set and after that .. waiting for device 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Are you right clicking to get cmd in platform tools because you can do it also in platform tools highlight platform tools at the top and type cmd then enter and you'll be in adb. I hope that made sense lol gl buddy!

Hi @akvaithi, I followed your steps in video till 03:33. Here I do not get this popup to "unlock Device". Instead it waits for 5 seconds and it shows me Device status: LOCKED(in green) where you have it UNLOCKED(orange) at 03:57 mark. I'm using Pixel 4a and Android 12, I enabled OEM unlock and USB debugging. Please help me out, thanks a bunch.
Make sure in Android flash tool, you have the proper check boxes ticked, otherwise it means your device is already unlocked.
@@akvaithi After lot of tinkering I finally installed Android studio and after that I was able to manually set it to unlock via fastboot command and then continue the rest of video, Thanks.

Thank you for this guide, but after I rooted my pixel 3a, I have no idea how to get all the cool apps that require rooting your phone, like repainter, shown in this video. Is there something like a magisk app store, or do I have to download apps manually from somewhere?
Repainter is on the Play Store, all you have to do is search "root apps" and you'll find a bunch of cool utilities. You can also go on XDA and Google around for some cool root apps.
