We had her right there in our generation to help and guide, she was failed massively by her own team who allowed her to perform whilst mentally ill and addicted and her own dad allowing it. Mama Akilah but’ unfortunately, she’s had problems with drugs and alcohol and she got 3 times what is legal in her blood, and the doctors sed so she can’t drink more alcohol, and she’s still did and hear body cudent take it, and thats way she died. she’ did need help, but, unfortunately, the people around her didn’t doe enuff. ore, thought so it was enuff to be in rehab fore 2 weeks, and that’s fine. But the Marks, can often come, later,trust, me i now what I’ am talking a but I’ knew people with alcohol problems but it isn’t so easy to deal with like in hear’s case, o’ well r.i.p. Amy.

I was listening to this over and over again last month when I was having symptom of kidney damage and I kept imagining that I was going to end up joining the 27 club like Amy. This song helped me get through that hard time.

Wrong. Truly original, unique artists don't get as much spotlight any more. Which is due to the fact that over the decades big studios have "learnt their lesson" about getting involved with potentially problematic creators. But great artists do exist. And it's kind of bitterly ironic that people say things like you just did, considering how it was in great part getting that spotlight that ushered Amy's death. A great many art-oriented people are not suited to be part of the big industry and it ruins them. Or, to say it brutally, studios sometimes still make a "mistake" and sign someone problematic. But since they're isolated incidents, they're manageable and even can be monetized. So if you only look at people who get the spotlight, sure, you won't see as many original artists. But if you only look there, it's kind of your own fault that you don't know many. Though I am not denying a fact that finding artists you may like is HARD. Even though we live in times where local scenes are accessible via the internet, it still takes effort and time and the effect is partly annulled by big celebrities forced into our feed, and into top positions of search engines, and generally to our attention. But guess what, it was never easy. Even when interesting artists were more likely to get big contracts and more exposure, it was always the job of an individual consumer to find valuable music that suits their taste. Sure, some get lucky and just hear what they like on a radio, or end up invited to just the right concert. Some have natural instincts for finding music - we all have this one friend who always listens to some obscure artists, some of them great, and we just wonder where do they find them and when. Also, people who say back in the day music was so much better, are often effing liars. I remember how twenty years ago I was watching TV and music journalists who were talking big about Jim Morrison and Jimmy Hendrix and how it's the sound of their youth and I was so jealous that they had that and I just have boy bands and girl bands that all look and sound like they're manufactured in the same factory. My father laughed at that and told me what those journalists were really listening to back in the day, what was on the radio and how The Doors were only played at some semi-underground parties. He also told me how he smugged a record from Germany when The Doors were at the peak of their popularity and thus introduced it to his circle of friends. I thought that's a great story and although it discredited the journalists I was watching, I thought, OK, but that was just because it was that specific time and place, we were at the wrong side of the iron curtain and all that. But now I can see exactly the same thing happening. Everybody raves about 1990s artists who stood the test of time but I remember they were certainly not part of "everyday music experience" back then and just like my father before me, I am pretty sure journalists who sing their praises today never mentioned them when they were actually active. Damn, some of them I've never heard of before. I only discover it now that music wasn't as shitty as I believed it to be. And a lot suggests it's a very general trend. Best artists of every era are rarely those who were known to the wider audience. What I'm saying, for every Amy Winehouse who made it big, there are several dozens boring starlets who hog the spotlight but also several dozens of other Amys who remained a local phenomenon. In 20-30 years, we will probably know of them better than we do today. Sorry for the long post nobody asked for. I just think the whole "no good artists any more" mantra is kind of naive and it triggers me. Today it triggered this essay and it made me feel a little better. If we were living under soviet-style conditions of realistic socialism, then YES, there would be actual reason why there should be no less art, but that is not the case. Hence we can find today hundreds and thousands of covers, which are in themselves just as beautiful and just as artistic as the original. But the Marks, can often come, later,trust, me i now what I’ am talking a but I’ knew people with alcohol problems but it isn’t so easy to deal with like in hear’s case, o’ well r.i.p. Amy.

I watch documentary yesterday and i was so hartbroking!.She was such an amaizing talent with the magical powerful voice and sooo beautiful!.Im soo sad because the people around her didnt do nothing to help her :(( .They knew she is no good but they ignore it,specially her father.She needed help because she was lost ,her soul was damage and broken ..she was in trap with no way out..im soo dissppointed in all these people!R.I.P. Amy i hope your soul is peaceful now..:(

Wrong. Truly original, unique artists don't get as much spotlight any more. Which is due to the fact that over the decades big studios have "learnt their lesson" about getting involved with potentially problematic creators.
But great artists do exist. And it's kind of bitterly ironic that people say things like you just did, considering how it was in great part getting that spotlight that ushered Amy's death. A great many art-oriented people are not suited to be part of the big industry and it ruins them. Or, to say it brutally, studios sometimes still make a "mistake" and sign someone problematic. But since they're isolated incidents, they're manageable and even can be monetized.
So if you only look at people who get the spotlight, sure, you won't see as many original artists. But if you only look there, it's kind of your own fault that you don't know many. Though I am not denying a fact that finding artists you may like is HARD. Even though we live in times where local scenes are accessible via the internet, it still takes effort and time and the effect is partly annulled by big celebrities forced into our feed, and into top positions of search engines, and generally to our attention.
But guess what, it was never easy. Even when interesting artists were more likely to get big contracts and more exposure, it was always the job of an individual consumer to find valuable music that suits their taste. Sure, some get lucky and just hear what they like on a radio, or end up invited to just the right concert. Some have natural instincts for finding music - we all have this one friend who always listens to some obscure artists, some of them great, and we just wonder where do they find them and when.
Also, people who say back in the day music was so much better, are often effing liars. I remember how twenty years ago I was watching TV and music journalists who were talking big about Jim Morrison and Jimmy Hendrix and how it's the sound of their youth and I was so jealous that they had that and I just have boy bands and girl bands that all look and sound like they're manufactured in the same factory. My father laughed at that and told me what those journalists were really listening to back in the day, what was on the radio and how The Doors were only played at some semi-underground parties. He also told me how he smugged a record from Germany when The Doors were at the peak of their popularity and thus introduced it to his circle of friends. I thought that's a great story and although it discredited the journalists I was watching, I thought, OK, but that was just because it was that specific time and place, we were at the wrong side of the iron curtain and all that.
But now I can see exactly the same thing happening. Everybody raves about 1990s artists who stood the test of time but I remember they were certainly not part of "everyday music experience" back then and just like my father before me, I am pretty sure journalists who sing their praises today never mentioned them when they were actually active. Damn, some of them I've never heard of before. I only discover it now that music wasn't as shitty as I believed it to be.
And a lot suggests it's a very general trend. Best artists of every era are rarely those who were known to the wider audience.
What I'm saying, for every Amy Winehouse who made it big, there are several dozens boring starlets who hog the spotlight but also several dozens of other Amys who remained a local phenomenon. In 20-30 years, we will probably know of them better than we do today.
Sorry for the long post nobody asked for. I just think the whole "no good artists any more" mantra is kind of naive and it triggers me. Today it triggered this essay and it made me feel a little better. If you've made it to the end - congratulations.

@@bialynia That is very true, the general perception and cliche that 'there simply aren't any more good artists', it's wrong, just as most cliches that we hear, they deserve to be questioned and most often that not we find that they aren't true. Also, the idea of art in itself equals effort. Most art requires a little bit of effort to 'get it', and if we just accept a cliche about art, without questioning it a little, (without reflecting and placing some effort), then we are not doing it justice. In addition, if we reflect on it a little... there is NO REASON why there should be less art today than in any previous era, in fact the opposite is true. Whichever way we define or understand art, we do not actually live under conditions which make art difficult or impossible. If we were living under soviet-style conditions of realistic socialism, then YES, there would be actual reason why there should be no less art, but that is not the case. Also, as music belongs to the 'performing arts', any song or performance can be art, WITHOUT having to be original. Hence we can find today hundreds and thousands of covers, which are in themselves just as beautiful and just as artistic as the original. So what do we say about them?
