Positive feedback loop. good artist in areas with other good artists steal from eachother and elevate aspects of the craft. momentum applies to creativity.
This was the first project. That was introduced to me by one of my homeboys when it first came out and a music connoisseur like me, especially if I enjoy that project I like to go backwards before I go for any further and after I jam that. The next project before hearing rodeo was owl pharaoh. It was a fan ever since now.
I’d say so. This is one of his best projects. Since they put it on streaming services it’s been running the numbers up. I think it actually passed Taylor Swift’s newest album in streams which is really impressive
This tape went so hard, I recorded it to a cassette and bumped it in my old honda that only had a tape deck. Played that tape while I was an assistant manager for a record shop alot too, miss those vibes.
I saw Days Before Rodeo just browsing random ass tapes on DatPiff. All of the mixtape covers looked so generic, but Travis standing shirtless in like a field really contrasted with all the other rappers trying to flex.
Exactly. He was signed as a rapper on T.I's label Grand Hustle and as a producer on Kanye's label at the time. He had a lot of hype for an up and coming artist
Big isn’t true. But he definitely wasn’t a nobody. I would say he wasn’t “Big” until Antidote dropped. He was more of a “oh the Kanye/Cudi clone” kinda artist
Rodeo was him mastering that sound and taking it to the next level, DBR paved the way with it's raw experimentation but Rodeo was perfection, to me it's still the most outstanding trap album 9 years later
When you mentioned DBR released in a transitional era of hip hop in 2014 that was pretty accurate. Creative freedom was molding into the mainstream, it was an amazing era to consciously witness. Till this day I say DBR is Travis Scott’s “Last Supper” like da Vinci it may be not be his most famous work (Mona Lisa) yet it is his most impactful. 😤🙌
Bro I remember not being able to escape this fucking album when it dropped. I was 20 living w 4 roommates. Every morning they would start the day blasting this shit thru the house. I woke up to Mamacita at 10am everyday for like 3 months straight. Living hell
I’ve loved Travis since Owl Pharaoh, which is why I always felt there was a difference between Travis fans and Astroworld fans. Astroworld was great, don’t get me wrong. But DBR was era defining
I fuck with you and I fuck with your videos but there’s some inaccuracies, Travis was relatively famously underground and was within in crowds when he went to New York but didn’t have luck there because he was looked at as a asap reject and was even close to them, he went to LA and it was the same thing, it wasn’t until he went to ATLANTA working with an already established sonic aesthetic from metro, Southside, Sonny digital, etc that he was able to create a sound based off that established Atlanta aesthetic that made him stand apart
Because it's from another era. It was one of the most streamed projects on Datpiff. Folks got to understand that not even goes to the back of everyone's discography. Many die hard J cole fans now have never even heard of the Warm Up or FNL
This dropped the summer before my first year at university in the UK. Back then, this kind of music was still quite niche in England but in my first week I made friends with this guy from the DMV who lived a few doors down and was bumping "Sloppy Toppy" on max volume. I was the best man at his wedding this past May.
The most accurate description and explanation of what it means being a true musically talented in hearing music and being able to understand and communicate it to others in a manner which makes you more likely to relate.
Damn man. One of the very few artist's i was blown away and obsessed over in the past decade. I remember hearing his old owl pharoah stuff... "meh". Then DBR came out.... "damn this is pretty fresh and creative sounding. And its vibey and energetic" THEN the Rodeo Tour happened and seeing it on the old Yahoo videos...
This tape came out my senior year of high school! I have such fond memories of this album. Skyfall is euphoric still to this day!! This is by far Top 3 projects from Travis
I know Days Before Rodeo is called a mixtape but since Travis released those vaults with all of em combined adding up to 10 songs id say Days Before Rodeo Deluxe is the best Travis album ever
Travis will always be in my top 5 as someone who I'm truly always inspired by, truthfully shaped my teenage years & astroworld absolutely changed my life. Forever going to inspire me🐐
dbr isn't the purest form , at that time he was experimenting all the sounds from his mentors , Kanye T.I Mike Dean .... , the DBR project was an experiment to see where he could be best at ; is it the hard drums , is it the futuristic sounds , is it the dark melo, .... all of that can be seen in rodeo , as it is his debut album and i personally think that the sound of Travis Scott that's Travis Scott's purest form of music , RODEO for me is the best trap album of all time , it shaped many sub genres of rap , the influence of French rap , many people do not know the influence Travis had on French rap yall should look it up
Another awesome video dude. I swear I'm gonna finally get nebula. I follow so many channels that are on it, and just started watching you and when I found out you made it I was like wow that's so dope. I appreciate what you do homie 🤘
I feel like days was trav leaving his kanye era or saying farewell to his kanye era and with rodeo entering the fame and rockstar lifestyle thats why i luv travs album his albums tells his story of his career from DBTR to rodeo,to birds and to astroworld and currently his utopia album. and now that days rlease on all plats i feel like his discography and story from start to finish music wise from all his album is complete. Feels like finding that one last piece to a puzzle to get the picture.
I liked Owl Pharoah but I felt it didn’t showcase his true superstar potential with his new unique sound he needed to drop Days before Rodeo during that time to solidify himself in the game and build huge anticipation for Rodeo. It was perfect timing for his career!
What’s crazy is I discovered Travis by lights as well .. I just remember scrolling through UA-cam and clicking on the video and I was like damn this is pretty tight.. I was blown away by the Kanye similarities and immediately knew this kid was going places and fast forward 11 or so years later.. I was right
RIP Rich Homie Quan. Mamacita was the first song I actually liked that had him in it. Yeah I heard Hurt No More and Type of Way on the radio before that but really wasn't feeling it as a New Yorker who moved to the south. Days Before Rodeo changed my opinion on a lot of rappers that I didn't really like much before the mixtape dropped Specifically Migos and Peewee Longway with Sloppy Toppy, Thug with Skyfall and Mamacita, and Rich Homie Quan.
Hell nah you have lost your mind. Skyfall, drugs you should try, basement freestyle, Zombies, and Sloppy Toppy. Man not one song from Owl Pharoah is better than those songs.
Mike dean exec produced it. And he did the same for Unos L$D two of my favorite mixtapes of all time both came out a few years apart and are super timeless.
This was the Travis I really grew up and discovered 9th grade. It felt weird when he started rapping more melodically with autotune prolly after rodeo for me. By astroworld he was huge ofc but I lost my desire for his music. Days before rodeo and rodeo eras was the most I was into him heavy but I give him props.
have always said this is his magnum opus and its becuase he was so influenced by kanye and cudi but really individualized himself with there typa sound
Kinda crazy how all these guys basically came up together and ended up doing huge numbers in the industry
Positive feedback loop. good artist in areas with other good artists steal from eachother and elevate aspects of the craft. momentum applies to creativity.
travis metro thug future migos

Days Before Rodeo Holds up incredibly well
I’d say so. This is one of his best projects. Since they put it on streaming services it’s been running the numbers up. I think it actually passed Taylor Swift’s newest album in streams which is really impressive
People always talk up rodeo being his best project, but days before rodeo is my favorite Travis Scott project
@@awesomebeast7509 same.
It’s a classic mixtape indeed
@@awesomebeast7509love both, but birds in the trap doesn’t get the love it deserves

realest shit ive read in a while
I saw Days Before Rodeo just browsing random ass tapes on DatPiff. All of the mixtape covers looked so generic, but Travis standing shirtless in like a field really contrasted with all the other rappers trying to flex.
Same story for me but live mixtapes
i wanna see more shirtless travis
Travis Scott was not a nobody when Days B4 Rodeo dropped lol That’s why Rodeo was big. He was one of the biggest buzzing names in hip hop at the time.
Yea but the publisher of this video is a really young so you gotta give him a pass. But yeah I remember Days Before Rodeo being highly anticipated
Facts, he had already produced on 3 number one albums back in 2013, Jay Z's Magna Carta, Kanye's Yeezus and Wale's The Gifted

More than agree!
We saw Travi$ and others as Travis.
Same well I actually first heard Travis on Meek Mill Dreamchasers 2 mixtape and became a fan
Travi$ vs Travis
Travi$ Scott is very different from Travis Scott.
Yessir i’ve been saying this!
Travi$ Scott >>> Travis Scott
crazy how everything this man did came full circle and everyone he worked with and their families ate from this metaphorical pie
days before rodeo been my fav project by him, I still got the local files for the album despite it just released

Because soundcloud has been stuck in the past for 10 years
I don't use soundcloud.
days before rodeo is fucking GREAT
Even though it's an album from 2014, it still sounds as fresh as 2024. There are not many albums that we can say the same about.
2:01 is not him in the solo pic 😭 it’s leanandcuisine

“Mamacita” is easily one of the top 10 songs of the 2010’s
easy top 5
Not even best on the tape

I agree Rodeo, Astroworld, DBR Top 3 for me. Utopia is growing on me tho but Birds is his most underrated in my opinion.
I know Days Before Rodeo is called a mixtape but since Travis released those vaults with all of em combined adding up to 10 songs id say Days Before Rodeo Deluxe is the best Travis album ever

Days before Rodeo was actually a pretty anticipated project and Travis already had a big buzz.
DBR gonna hit 1B streams by the end of this year for sure.
everytime i listen to this album it takes me back to when i was 13 downloading this off of datpiff.. a timeless mixtape for me and the homies

The Days Before Rodeo tour w/ Young Thug was so sick.
The small venue I saw him at was so lit, and Travis was performing in front of me.
The end of “The Prayer” was what got me hooked my god that was so wild and dark at that time it felt like I was discovering gold 😂
Damn its been a minute since volksgeist popped in my feed, good shit
It’s pretty hard to overstate how incredible the first 6 song run is on DBR. No doubt best stretch of back to back songs of his discography.
When you said this album was "before mainstream trap" thats 🧢 but the other stuff you said I could agree with.
At 2014 i was once of the small fanbase, been since Owl’s and yes DBR and Rodeo are the best era
nevula.... i love the vision, love this new independent platforms w so much potential, power is coming back to the masses.
and you get to learn too? wow
Zombies is an underrated track I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned. That basement freestyle beat is some nice work to
DAYS BEFORE RODEO was one of the first full projects I listened to on SoundCloud.
Same for owl pharaoh
