"Always before I looked at it to see what those suckers had done to me. Today, I would look at it to see what those RESENTMENTS are doing to me" THIS was so powerful 🙌 🙌 🙌
I thank God all the time that I got the privilege of listening to Joe and Charlie and having them aid and enhance my recovery and my understanding of my recovery. They're truly a daily blessing for me.
Yes I agree. It seems like so many people get caught up on the fourth step and most sponsors complicate it and most people don’t take time to do it. I’ve been wanting to to a fourth step meeting where people bring pencil and paper and we simply discuss the 5 columns. While in meetings is when I think mostly about these things.
Great stuff! I have been doing a Monday 8:15pm Joe & Charlie meeting for about 3years . Third time through now and we just started Step 4 again tonight. One of the best things that have happened to me in sobriety is working thru this series. Best wishes brother They really do it by the book
@@biguzzetti how do you do this type of meeting. I do a big book meeting, we just read the book and share on what we read but it seems everyone including old timers and big book historians skip over the simplicity and ease of how Joe and Charlie describe it.
I think there are many definitions of the word moral . A dictionary in 1939 may say truth while today could be different. For example the word trudge in 1939 may say move forward with purpose.
Sometimes you forgive the resentment daily to avoid re-living the pain, suffering, anger, hatred, fear, self pity. If it comes back you turn it to GOD once again.
One of the few things I disagree with j&c. At 14:37 he says he looked it up in the dictionary and learned that “moral” means truth. I’ve looked at 1/2 dozen dictionaries and none of them say that. They say exactly what the common understanding of the word means. Sorry Charlie, no sale.
I believe he found it under the definition of the NOUN "moral," as in "the moral of the story," rather than the definition of the ADJECTIVE "moral." Now, Bill uses "moral" as an adjective: "moral inventory." Charley fudges it a bit here, but it actually helps: "moral" as an adjective is so broad that it really overcomplicates completing the inventory.
Take a second look at "Inventory"! That's the number one definition of that word when Bill W was writing the Big Book. Is it any coincidence that Bill W recently studied this definition of "Inventory" when he was attending law school for two years?

This has helped me to get some understanding of my step 4
Do step 4 people. It's better than the alternative. God bless all sick and suffering ~
I have never heard Step 4 explained in such a straight forward way. Might need to redo mine at some point!
A beloved friend sent me the link to this because I'm just about to start

Good stuff God is good
The football analogy is hilarious when he talks about the commentator and the resentment machine
Fear, self-pity, resentments, shame, remorse and guilt block God from our thinking and living

Right or wrong , could be true or false.
In a Big Book Study I attend we use a 1939 dictionary. That's a great idea because you are correct.

The only sex discussion in the big book is on page 69. - Bill was crazy AF
STEP 4 OR CONTINUE TO SUFFER FROM UNTREATED ALCOHOLISM-YOUR CHOICE.
I’m doing step 4 just now , this is helping me so much
When you are dealing with an alcoholic. You will realize that alcoholics make simple things seem like rocket science before the ego gets dropped.
Thank you
Big book study
Charlie sounds exactly like Senator Pat Geary of Nevada from Godfather part 2.
