When I was 23 I bought a 1968 420G with just over 40,000 miles on the clock. A one owner vehicle - immaculate condition - property of an elderly lawyer with full service history. I loved it despite the initial howls of hilarity from my friends. Yes - it was a land barge but no other car I have ever owned (I have driven Jaguars for 40+ years since) matched the on road 'presence' of the 420G.
Triple carbs quite powerful in its day ! I drove my bosses one to the tip with a trailer in 1974 at the age of 15, I was a Boat Building apprentice , but different than my 100E Prefect !
"BRITISHNESS [brɪtɪʃnɛs, brit-ish-ness] (noun), is the state or quality of being British or of embodying British characteristics." An excellent portrait of a wonderful, forgotten car which perfectly embodied the spirit of the Sixties in Britain. Well done, waiting for more!
I've had 3 and my 68 420G remains my favourite for style and sheer luxury. If only they had managed to get the V12 ready in time for it as was the original plan.
When Jaguar took over Daimler in 1960, they had available the (Edward Turner) Daimler 4.5 litre V8. Shame they didn't have the foresight to have used it to propel this behemoth.
They tried that V8 Hemi and also gave some thought to using the V12. Politics played a part and the Daimler incarnation was never built. The V8 had as much grunt as the V12 so would have made an excellent choice.
interesting, they talked about the MK 10 the entire video but we were looking at a 420G which is really the same car but details details. the chrome strip is one thing giving it away as a 420G. anyway I have an early MK 10 so I was very glad to here that description from the announcer. my car is even gunmetal which is similar to the car in the video. Really nice.
It seems pretty clear that an original Jaguar MK X advertisement audio was dubbed onto a homemade 420G video. The stated 62 debut was correct for the MK X 3.8, but the 420G didn't start production until Oct 66. Could be a bit dicey regarding copyright but I'd hope Jaguar would just be happy with the historical reflection being shared.
Gosh I love seeing these cars with the wing mirrors in their factory original position way forward on the fenders. Most that I have seen in person and in videos had them moved much closer to the windshield and some were replaced with American style mirrors on the front doors themselves. And the factory original trapezoid shape is better than the circular replacements one frequently sees. Gorgeous cars in every respect.
How does it feel driving that car? My dad had dozens of them from the sixties right up to the late eighties and he said no other car felt anything like it! The amount of work that went into each car, the way it looked and way it drove put a smile on your face every time you got in it! Is it very high maintenance keeping it in running order as I would love to buy one for my dad that's been restored.
According to Chris Harvey in his book The Classic Jaguar Saloons, the total production was 5429 RHD and 1125 LHD for the 66 - 70 run of 420G. MK X 4.2 engine was 3720 HD and 1960 LHD and MK X 3.8 engine was 9129 RHD and 3848 LHD. Not many even when all the variants are added up. Sadly I'd guess less than 10% survive to this day.
It almost looks like some sort of oil pan guard as it seems to be quite long on the car's center-line. They were very low and I could easily see them bottoming out on the old and remote British "B" roads. Would the owner please clarify?

Well early sixties anyway, and then held on to the end of the decade.
Thanks for making such a brilliant video 👍
I have owned jaguars all my life and in my opinion the mk 10 is the best Jag ever made

@@68Jaguar420G i believe mr Robert Huges a classic Jaguar car dealer converted a 420G with a V12 years ago , love to know how it went

420 G very underated car you must drive one vast amount of wood and leather.
THEY MADE 5500. OF THEM, ONLY 1100. LEFT DRIVE.

I agree with BCKR2 comment.
thanks to Marko for his elegant and spirited video (like usual) of his graceful grey 420G.
One day , one day
I should add that the car was 10 years old when I bought it.
what was hanging low underneath the car
Raymond Smart Part of the A/C.
Bollocks probably.

What's the lateral structure under the front of the car? I don't recall something like that on mine?
I was wondering the same thing, almost like something to flat tow it with.
RCBM probably. A/C. Mine has it.
me what one very much!!
