I truly like the video and it was bittersweet to me as well. APG I hated when I first arrived and loved before I pcs'd. It is sad to see that half or more empty field of history. I was there in 1991 active duty. I last visited APG in early 1994 retired. Thanks for the video!
Had my AIT there in 1978 as a 45B10, small arms repairman. Later went back for Ordnance Officers Basic and they asked to stay. Finally left 1983 for work at home. Great place! So much history at APG and in the Maryland and Pennsylvania area. Hate to see old equipment being left there, needing paint and covered with weeds. The Ordnance Center and School was responsible for the museum, but I guess the guys at TECOM do not have the time or money. Same for all the old weapons in the museum bunker, which was behind the fence. Real shame, once these historical items are lost, you can not get them back.
Sorry to see it all go. I've spent time tracing where the vehicles went.... Ft. Lee to the new Ordnance Museum, the Armor and Cavalry Museum at Ft. Benning and the restoration works at Anniston Army Depot. Hopefully it all gets the preservation work that was neglected for so long. I was at APG for my Ordnance Officer Basic Course from Oct. 77 to March of 78 and probably drove past the museum grounds on a daily basis.
thank everyone below for their service. I was never stationed there. but I live down the road. there was a blimp project they had a year or so back. some type of early warning radar I think. couple billion dollar project. I was watching the news, and one of the blimps got loose. apparently it shed its tether line. they had f16's chase it to Pennsylvania. got a good laugh out of it ☺
Thanks, I needed that good laugh! www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/harford/aberdeen-havre-de-grace/bs-md-jlens-balloon-investigation-20160211-story.html
I moved to Aberdeen in late July 2012 and must have just missed seeing you. I DID witness the mass movement, primarily by rail, of many tanks, SPGs, FAPs (towed), wheeled and tracked (combat and noncombat) vehicles that were being moved to Ft. Lee at the time....Which kind of pissed me off since we only live about three blocks for APG and one of the only two reasons I moved to Maryland in fist place and Aberdeen in particular was the Ordnance Museum....At least The Lovely Bride made up for the loss of the museum....Thank God and U-Haul we'll be moving back to Civilization, The Real South, and South Carolina in a month or two....But we may have to make a stop at Ft. Lee on the way home....Because we ain't coming back this way in this life time if I have any say matter....
I was there in 1956, went to school for heavy artillery . Then transferred to fort stewart , Georgia and worked on tanks, we changed the 90 mm tubes in over a hundred tanks and then had to test fire all of them, that was fun.
One more thing....Maybe....If you check out the various "official" records regarding the Hummel....ALL of them were destroyed in combat or by their crews when forced to abandon them....Funny, that looks a LOT like a Hummel in your video....
Thanks but, Hey... I said I was smoked, right?! You try putting up with two whiny 6 year olds after 10 hours of driving. Two kids who couldn't give a fuck about German armor!!
Thank you.

Nice video. I think the vehicle you said was a Hummel is actually the Nashorn SPAT which mounted the long 88. The Hummel had the 150mm.

Thanks for your service Jeff.
Thank you!

You have escaped!
I was stationed there in Aug 1983 loved looking at the tanks and the museum we were billeted up the Hill from the old 1919 tank
Thanks for shooting this video, I was there for AIT about 1997 and went to the museum. I would love to go back.
They didn't have guard duty for this place when you went in? They did several years prior. It was a bit creepy.
I was there in 1981, loved the muesum, I was in B-1-3 was a 44b10 sheetmetal worker...

Makes me feel sad to see vegetation growing on these relics. If only Aberdeen took care of these relics like Bovington does.
There's no money and the gov't doesn't care.
Thanks! I had dragged them around a few months earlier so it wasn't their first time. However, being in August, round two was a tad hot for everyone.
This video does not get old. Jagdtiger is not there now.
All the tanks are gone now.
Took AIT at Aberdeen 1983
The Hummel is a Nashorn, the former has the 150mm & the latter the 88mm.
Thanks. I do not know what is left at Aberdeen right now. I have not been back since filming this video in August 2012.
Even at that date the museum was a shell of its former self
Thanks for making this video. I was lucky to visit in 2007. Is there anything left as of October 2013?
Do you remember the Elephant TD, it has been loaned to the UK.
Thanks!
Note: Was there on 29th November 2012. The Jagdtiger and Brumbar as now gone.
Cool video!

What is there now? Still worth going?
You are very dedicated Dad, too bad the kids didn't dig the German Panzers.

It's "Ground" not a "grounds"
