@@FryetteAmps I started rockin’ 7-string guitars through a VHT GP3 Preamp and VHT power amp around 2002-2003? It was my live/touring rig for about 6 years. I got tons of compliments on my tone at every show. Most of the compliments came from people who hadn’t heard of VHT, but people would always tell me how huge and really clear my tone was. Unfortunately, I sold it about 11-12 years ago, but I am happily an owner of a SIG:X. By far the most versatile amp I’ve ever played/owned. I will never sell it!!! 🤘🏽 You should make the VHT GP3 Valvulator again though. Or make the SIG:X and Pitbull again with MIDI capability.
God everything from 17:00 minutes onward is the tone dreams are made of, at least mine. Good lord. So tight, so CLEAR and the high-end is very pleasing with all the bite you want without the harshness. On that little single note riff around 17:15, I just love that sort of "quacky" sounding attack when palm muting and down-picking those single notes aggressively. If an amp can give me that, I'm a happy guitarist. If you listen to pretty much any As I Lay Dying album, you can hear that same sort of thing in their tone and I've always loved it. Every note just pops out at you and it sounds phenomenal.
Try an ENGL Invader 1 man, that shit boosted is just the fucking tightest amp with that quacky tone. I've tried more than 30 high gain amps (not VHT/Fryette stuff) and it's just the angriest and tightest monster ever.

@@incitatus634 Every engl I've played (owned a Savage II and an Invader) is just too compressed. Love the tonal character of the amps, just doesn't feel "alive" to me and puts a damper on my playing dynamics.
I love how this amp has three glorious clean channels, with two that happen to have some amazing gain tones.
I remember going to see Unearth around 15 years ago and they were running VHTs and it was some of the most powerful live tone I’ve ever heard.. still think about it to this day.. dry and nasty
Just had a look at the Sig:X manual about the clean tone because I was wondering if and why it didn’t have a Master Volume: „The most important thing to remember about this [clean] channel is to USE YOUR GUITAR VOLUME. This is an extremely dynamic channel. By setting the volume a little louder than needed and controlling the volume from your guitar you will be rewarded with a huge array of tonal textures and “in-between” tones that most players struggle to get with multiple amps and boost pedals.“ OK. This is interesting. Man that thing sounds great, just like the CL you had earlier.

No problem for the mighty John Browne...but...that clean channel is scarily clean. Nowhere to hide with any of these channels. VHT/FRYETTE amps always make me realize one thing. I should practice more.

This was my first tube amp, I got it when I was 19, almost twelve years ago.
I've bought, and sold other amps since then, but nothing else was ever as good for me.
This was the best demo I've seen of its capabilities. Well done, Sir.
The clean sound is so pretty at 8min55, without any effect. It is impressive. And the saturated channel is like a thunderclap in the storm. Amazing review !
Maaaaan that sort of saggy mid gain sound around 11:16, most amps fail miserably at making that kind of tone sound useable/not ugly as hell ... OOF I like that
I'm an old time 5150/6505 lover, but this thing gets me everythime. Like The Framus Cobra and nothing else much. I know it's a matter of taste, and I like it :)
The clean channel with the boost on is an amazing sound. It was what surprised me most about this amp.
John, you could be playing through a Blackstar combo with a blown speaker and it would sound brilliant. This amp slays, however ruthlessly forgiving it is. Cheers!

Even though I don’t have the actual amp, I always find mind favorite choice of amp on my AXE FX3 to be the fryette deliverance… it’s so in your face and aggressive. I love it! This video makes me want the real deal now 😣
The Fryette amp profiles on my Kemper just about smoke everything else with Mesa Boggies best stuff and Deizel close behind. ENGL Savage is pretty good also. I don't have an EVH stealth profile but in person that amp is also a beast of an amp.

in Europe,also I can bet a lot of us would like to see the Sig x compared to the fryette modules(the Ultra lead and the Deliverence) with the same kt88 power tubes,I'm sure that @John Browne could do more than a fair comparison video about that matter where we all can learn the difference in the tone
about that beautiful products.

Not a chance. The VHT of today isn't the same VHT that made the Sig X, Pitbull, or Deliverance amps

Being an amp nerd, I like to think I can more or less tell what effect the creatively-named switch settings have on the tone, but man it'd be GREAT to hear from Fryette/VHT EXACTLY what they do, in terms of EQ and whatever other actual changes they make, technically speaking. Huh? Huh?
A lot of it is in the manual, but using words to describe frequencies doesn’t really give you the full picture right 🤣
I'd love a Pitbull or one of these but they seem so hard to find! Probably going to pick up a Matamp GT200 first. Much easier to get! Thanks for the awesome demo.

Oh dude....I have an Ultralead. It handles extended range instruments better than pretty much anything. And without a boost.
I’ve been saying that every amp video Browne posts. Would be nice if he would switch to his extended range guitars to see how the amp reacts to the lower registers

Youd have to pry this amp from my cold dead hands and even then Im going to haunt you. Must be why these don't usually pop up for sale.
I had one for some years. It's a good amp but none of the channels ever excelled at anything for me.The clean channel has it's own sound.I preferred the headroom and character of My Mesa mark series amps and Rhodes Artemis. For high gain, the Freyette Deliverance is more my style. I never could get the Sig X as tight sounding as my other amps. The Sig X sort of has a fatter bass response that you can't really thin out unless you start adding drive pedals in front.

It sounds like what I've been doing with bias fx 2 with a -92 mesa with a tweaked screamer. unforgiving but awesome. Neural DSP's omegawhatever has been the only vst that has made me play better and tighter in comparison to the bias shait.
Bias is good for bass sounds though. Get a katana.

You know ive asked this before and had to look into it a bit. Apparently hes got something like really bad arthritis in his neck that came on early in life. Not exactly sure what it is and if its pain keeping his head still or some fusing issue but yea he got something up with his neck

I like the Fryette Pitbull UL amps. Have not tried a Deliverance amp so not sure if better or same.

@@JohnBrownemonuments ive heard that, but in my experience the ironheart has nothing like the amount of gain or top end clipping of a 5150. Much more of a dry marshall sound to me.

Fryette/VHT are the only amps I need to toss reverb onto the distortion channel. They force you to be a better player. Glorious tones from these amps. Great video John.
Since Helmet and Static-X VHT is my favorite metal sound. Would love to have the Pitbull ultra. This one right here is just incredible.

This is the first time ever that I thought "I absolutely NEED that amp!" just from by watching a UA-cam demo. That amp is completely bonkers in the best way possible! It encapsules everything I want in a metal rhythm tone.
Bought my Sig X in 2008. Never looked back. You won't put your guitar down. Use Fane Speakers, AEA R92 ribbon /Sennheiser e906. Captures all the rage your soul can muster.
Have you played an EV12"? Old school ? I am wondering how the Fane 70G's compare. The EV is one of the best speakers I have ever played but im really curious about the Fanes.
@@realtruenorth I got the Fane's since that what Steve Fryette loads his cabs with. He's got great ears and has been matching amp + speakers for 50 years. Fane's always been standard on Hiwatt cabs as well. Probably less breakup and speaker-compression than a Celestion. It brings those full-range power-chords out more. Use a Fane on my Demeter bass rig as well. Have a G&L 2500 5-string bass and it doesn't bottom-out into mush.
I know this is a lot of noodling, but what is that riff based off of? Sounds phenomenal! I accidentally saw this video 2 months ago . . . and then my SigX showed up a few days ago.
i'm surprised you didnt have/use one of them already. it's probably the amp that suits your playing style more than anything out there. i guess it's a testament to how underrated and weirdly unknown they are

That tone is awesome. It's crazy, we have amp simulations everywhere and they sound good enough but once you plug into a good tube amp....It's just a different thing. Very cool vid! Keep it up...
On my Kemper, the Sig X is one if my most used profiles, up there with SLO100 and Fryette UL pit.

They were pretty rare in the UK, and when there were more of them (for example they stocked it in a store in London called turnkey) I was far too young/poor

Fuck, John. I've been listening to monuments for years but only just stumbled on your UA-cam channel. This is just just like talking to my mates about gear. Your channel has gotten me so pumped about that endless pursuit of tone. Not the destination, but the journey right? Anyway, killer playing. Great demonstration of all these features. I played a VHT pitbull (can't remember which) in 2004 and thought it was one of the most interesting tones I found, but not versatile enough for the things I was playing at the time. I eventually bought a H&K triamp mk ii which I played in heaps of bands and shit loads of recordings for about 15 years. After watching your Pitbull demo and now this, I feel I need to find any VHT/Fryette I can get my hands on.
I have a big screen in my studio with my computer ran through my PA, 2x 18s 4x10s and 2x12s , holy shit,it sounds like im at the show,lol. That amp is a beast sounds just fucking Awesome !!
Hows the feel of this amp compared to the Pittbull? I heard the Sig X has a looser feel compared to the dry and tightness of the Pittbull.
