Rupert Read is my new hero and role model as a communicator. He speaks with the simple clarity of truth and conviction, understands his subject and knows exactly what he wants to say. He cuts straight through any web of obfuscation and diversion.

Congratulations Rupert. I really admire your skills at talking on the radio/television news to overtly critical, rude and ignorant reporters in a clear, direct and fair manner. Well done Sir, you are role-model to me and many others who will have to follow in your footsteps.

I agree. I think if Rupert would have pointed out that the 'run by anarchists who want to destroy democracy' paper is a conspiracy spread by a far-right enabling left wing hating side of the intelligence community (who have been excessively undermining and infiltrating the left historically) that would have been a more stronger table turner. BBC have been turning a blind eye to the fascism in this country and abroad (and now in parliament FFS!). There has also been a report that the Beeb has been enabling this. Pointing things out like this (if time was long enough I guess) that would have delivered along with everything he said, a more stronger turning of the table.

    • @socialgoodness
      @socialgoodness 5 років тому +1

The BBC seems to be engaging in a superficial adherence to the balance thing. Its like they put a far right conspiracy theorist next to an economics professor who is a socialist in such a way which aids and abets the far-right. All on behalf of rich Tory donors. Nice one BBC for 'balance'! The Biased Blindspot Corporation is dismantling democracy and claiming the 'other' is doing so.

We have to learn how to out-debate interviewers like Mr Humphries. Who knows what he really believes, he is paid to debate people who passionately believe in something but may be less skillful in their presentation. Rupert you did very well, you must find others who not only share you passion but also your skill in the debate. There are some very skilled debaters from whom we can learn. Some of the best debaters are constantly on radio and TV not because of their beliefs but because of their skill at debate. As a group we need to study how they do it, or perhaps get them to join us. Thank you Roger, and good luck.

    • @socialgoodness

Yes the BBC needs to be called out for enabling fascism and engaging in false equivalence in the name of balance. The best journalists which call that out in significant detailed and relevant ways will need to follow the example of James O'Brien.

The US is starting wars just for oil which is the deliberate use of two kill mechanisms. The UK is the second biggest arms dealer and this terrorist officer points his gun at those protesting against these ills. That is really backwards and a clear sign of the government's security forces lack of concern for the real problems just because they are fearful of a common sense coup. Is it really that simple or are the oil companies pushing their buttons? If that is true then democracy is already dead. The fact that for 50 years OPEC has covered up their own concerns about CO2 production is a purely capitalist agender over democracy. The public has never been given the chance to vote on how our energy is produced and have been bred into believing that society can only run on oil. It's all propaganda by big oil who have been fighting a war against progress away from fossil fuels since they realised their product was untenable. They have been allowed to start wars and kill millions just for access to more oil and associated wealth. It's venal ministers and agents of doubt on the payroll of big oil that have destroyed democracy and capitalism is their weapon.

But I am puzzled not to have heard anything about goal number one: getting government to tell the truth about the climate crisis. The truth known to militaries and governments around the world 🌎. Btw, bringing down the government could simply be electing new leaders. Funny you didn’t go there, leaving a frisson of violent overthrow (some may die) hanging around.
I read the XR manifesto, but I couldn’t join because the anarchist sentiment was too strong, possibly dangerous for those less privileged by race and birth. Uniting fellow climate travelers is a bitch, but let’s please not eat our young, or old.

They are as anarchic as the my right foot but I've said to them once Britain has a government with an overt eugenist leader they will not be allowed their peaceful protest. We've been here before throughout the decades.
Up to now there has been an agreement between the police and the government that dictates the police go gently, this was manifest in April. The Tories are not stupid they know how to give an inch, but try taking a mile too often.
In October the conferences will be over and it'll be business as usual in the London financial mile, so good luck if people protest there.
As for terrorism, we have no govt, people are divided on the question of Europe, we have two eugenists competing for the leadership of the most sophisticated ruling class in the world and we are about to lose the remnants of a welfare state that keeps millions out of poverty, but the only rebellion entails making speeches from a pink boat. Where is the revolution and the anarchy? Oh goodness me, Britain does hold an oppressed populace.
Roger Hallam said that? maybe, as he was a supporter of the ''socialist'' Podamos that is entrenched in Spain now but not exactly revolutionary, though were promising at the outset. Its counterparts in Latin America and even Britain (Mr Corbyn and his supporters) have been torn apart piece by piece by Britain, its bootboy and its other cronies.
Mr Hallam believes the British state and its police force is benign and that there's a separation between the police and the state, when they are synonomous.
Voting makes a democracy? Well why has the Tory party lasted for centuries and why is it so powerful still, it merely represents its own interests economically?
Not a bad interview Rupert, you handled that supercilious and jumped up wannabe superstar Mr Humphries ok.
Call it the monopoly game cos a kind of capitalism would function in a communist state, even a vegetable is capital if you need to exchange it for an egg.

You raise some good points which need to be taken on board. You and others probably know as much as me that the far right practises entryism these days, into the left as well, so we do have to be careful and defend against misunderstood ill informed knowledge regarding anarchism and socialism. The guiles of the far right and moderate right in cohorts with them and the corruption in policing culture which seems to favour a far right than a 'far left' and has the cheek to insert so called 'far left' into places invented or manufactured to dismantle the politics that the left stands, all that needs to be known and known well, historically, lets not forget! The politics labelled 'left' compared to the other is far more compassionate and progressive, advanced and evolved.
