Ruben is quickly becoming my fav tenor cat 🐱
He sounds like he’s from a different century
And his sound is buzzy and metallic, LOVE IT!!
He's very creative, with a unique and fresh sound, while remaining deeply rooted in the tradition.
Same here!
Do you have any idea what mp is he using ?
This is the best version of "Hey Lock" of many I have heard. I'm including in that assessment the versions by Lockjaw and Griffin to my surprise.
I didnt know this song before, i love it. Great playing
Worth checking out the whole Griff & Lock album
audio engineer and whoever is doing the camera stuff deserves some credit!! great stuff as always, emmet
What a group of talented guys! Amazing!! Thank you Emmet for your channel. Cheers from Brazil!
certified banger
what a witty and enjoyable sound! these guys really satisfied me i mean musically. cheered me up.thanks so much.
Dude swings 🎉
Holy shit Russell Hall is a tight mf bass player
what is the song?
Hey lock
Bruce was good 10 years when we first met. He’s now great and easily in my top favorite 3 trumpet players to listen to. Such talent! Thank you Emmet for being amazing and bringing such amazing music to us every week.
I realized the A part is a contrafact of Body and Soul
yooo. never realized that. same key and everything.
Ya johnny griffin actually quotes that melody on his solo at 5:50 off the record "Griff and Lock"
2:30 - 2:48 I was absolutely blown away by this part of Ruben's solo. The sudden change of mood from the preceding technical wizardry, playing slightly behind the beat to create a relaxed/carefree feel, the surprise "whisper" at 2:33 (watch how the masked listener laughs and shakes their head in disbelief), then the wonderful tone and vibrato in the next phrase at 2:34, the playfulness with the rhythm (switching from swing to straight) to close out the phrase. Julian is shaking his head in the background, and someone goes "yaaa" at 2:36.
Some serious analysis
quotes Too Marvelous For Words too
2:30 to 2:48 is a Johnny Griffin quote
@@TWO20 yeah I was about to say Johnny played that on the original track.
so many great tenor players out there! another solid performance...this is good for the soul and a great service - thank you for that.
that drummer kinda looks like chad LB
Normally he doesn’t - I’m not used to seeing him with that beard!
2 Tenors yeah !!
I love Russell's face on this one - he's having big fun playing with those guys!
This performance would make “Jaw” and “Griff” proud.
Bruce!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I'm glad you uploaded this part of the live stream, I loved it so much
