Nothing like these great history told by the brave men who lived it. Great tool for teaching real history. So grateful. My dad was a navigator I know him more deeply than I ever did. Thanks to you
These are priceless. I save every single one of these interviews I can find. I do not always have time to listen, "right now" but I put them on and listen as I can... I figure if anyone of these men cares to speak about what they experienced defending my nation and building MY LIFE even before I was born; well then: I can spare the time.
I sound like a broken record, but these interviews are truly amazing. Their memories are are so very clear with details. That speaks highly of their intense service and duty. Thank you all for the wonderful work in preserving our military history.
As always, thank you Ray for an awesome glimpse into the life and times of these heroes. I can't think of anything you could have done to make these better. Even the intro music is touching.
My dad was also a navigator stationed in England and was a part of bombing missions over Europe. After V-E day and returning here to the states he was stationed at Whiting Field Florida in pilot training preparing to be deployed to the Pacific Theater when the war finally ended.
What puzzles me is didn't gunners , engineers , radio ops . become officers during operational tours. In the RAF it was possible and fairly common for the Pilot and Captain to be an NCO whilst the rear gunner for example would be an officer. I did read about one crew where the pilot was a bit of a ditherer , that the Navigator was the Captain. Again squadron CO's could be Navs or AG's .
