Shigar Fort Skardu Gilgit Baltistan | Mozi Ventures | Vlog

In this vlog, we'll be exploring the stunning Shigar Fort located in the Mal Shigar District of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. This magnificent fort was built in the 17th century by Raja Hassan Khan Amacha, from the Amacha Dynasty regime, and is almost 400 years old. Craftsmen from Kashmir were invited to build the fort using wood, stone, and clay, along with the participation of local people.
Also known as "Fongs Khar" in Balti language, this fort is a perfect rehabilitation of the original structure, as it sits atop a rock 32km away from Skardu city. After being brought back to life by Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan, the fort was transformed into a museum and opulent hotel run by Serena Hotels, following a restoration operation from 1999 to 2004, costing around 1.4 million USD. More than 70% of the revenue generated by the fort is used for the welfare of the people of Shigar valley.
The fort has three distinct parts - the old house, region's heritage, and garden house. The royal hall has been turned into a museum that houses old utensils, cabinets, jewelry, and royal letters. There is also a historic mosque and a room in the garden, famous for being the place where the Raja spent some time after a polo match. The fort is regarded as a protective heritage of the region and is a magnificent place for tourists.
In the vlog, we'll also talk about the large tree in the fort that is famous for catching fire after every 200 years. We'll discuss the importance of non-government organizations in preserving historic buildings, as seen in the restoration of the Shigar Fort.
