Mike Douglas was one of the most awesome people in all of show business. He never made things about "himself." And he also wasn't an "editorialist." I miss him so much. We need more like him today.
I’d mentioned this episode a few times on other videos but here is the ‘skateboard/roller skate’ episode. So Ira Skutch in later episodes refused to match ‘finishing school’ with ‘school’ or ‘plastic baggie’ with ‘bag’ but here had ZERO problem matching ‘roller skate’ with ‘skateboard’! Unbelievable!
Well even Gene was surprise that Ira matched it.. Poor Gene gets pick on for when he thinks it isn't a match and Ira matches or when he thinks it is a match and Ira doesn't match it. Of course no other game is like Match Game where there is no right answer to all questions.. ;0)
Well this week George wrestle the title away from Brett to win the week for the semi regulars giving away 11,000 dollars in head to head and audience match matches with 13 matches. Brett won the week for the regulars giving away 500 dollars in audience match match. Richard still managed to give away 250 dollars in audience match match with 9 matches for the regulars.
End-of-week H/H match recap: ... Commentary: Panel-wise this was a wonderful MG week. I end up liking almost every panelist who comes along, but I definitely enjoy some weeks more than others, and this week's combination of celebs was magic. Today's action: One champion retires with $11,800 as a new champion steps to center stage to play the Super Match. Today's audience match question: "________ Tip" (My first thought is hot tip.) The celebs: Charles (hot), George (felt), and Richard (big) The choice: Q- (Our contestant goes it alone!) The answers: Felt, Hot, Finger Oh, no. Our new champ strikes out on the audience match board. I hate it when that happens! I thought Q-Tip was a great answer! No H/H match today! ~~So we close out the week with only 4 H/H matches this time: Richard 0/2, George Kennedy 2/2 George Kennedy sure made a splash in his MG debut. (It's a shame he will only appear on the panel for 4 more weeks.) He kicked off his Match Game career with an above-average number of matches in the regular game, which caught the attention of a champion who didn't match Richard on her first attempt at the H/H. Making a wise decision to switch to George rewarded her with two back-to-back $5000 wins. I always find it more exciting and interesting seeing new and different celebs playing the H/H, and this week was no exception. These past two weeks have been a change of pace for Richard who tends to dominate the head-to-head match. Last week finished with Richard sitting out three days in a row as Brett scored three matches in a row. This week got off to a bad start with Richard missing twice before George Kennedy stepped up with two H/H matches. And then we cap off the week with a failed audience match and no H/H at all today. Unfortunately, Betty was shut out this week, after her incredible performance last time (matching in 643, 644, and most likely the missing episode 645). Also sitting on the H/H sidelines were CNR (with his superior track record) and Lee Meriwether. Lee has only been chosen once so far, but she still has 8 more weeks to score her first H/H match. Brett ends the week a full percentage point ahead of Richard in H/H accuracy - they've always been pretty close in overall performance, but Richard had recently spent several weeks comfortably ahead of his upper-tier colleague. ~~Looking ahead to next week, it's another "all-veteran" panel, with our three regulars joined by: --Semi-regular Joyce Bulifant, returning after a four-week absence. I'd love to see that tie finally broken between her and Jo Anne Worley! They've both been stuck at 75% (3 out of 4) for ages. --Clifton Davis, appearing for his third and final week on the panel. We last saw him in episodes 601-605. Clifton's had three shots at the H/H match so far (most recently in 601), but has yet to score his first match. This is going to be his last shot! --Finally, Patty Duke Astin, making her fourth visit (of 14 weeks total). She was chosen once for the H/H, without matching. *Trivia:* I believe this is the first time when we've had back-to-back Academy Award winners on the MG panel: George Kennedy received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (1968), and Patty Duke received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress (1963). ~~Finally, here's the standing leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (No movement since 667 when Richard played.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 50% (17 wins in 34 attempts). Charles - 47.7% (21 wins in 44 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.8% (23 wins in 55 attempts). Richard - 40.8% (157 wins in 385 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 670, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
The only consolation to the famous Skate Board/Roller Skate match, is that she probably would have matched all six with Kissed, in the second round anyway. But it was a terrible decision by Ira.
SPOILER ALERT! In the next episode, the other contestant, Lauren, loses badly, so the four "Kisses" answers by themselves are more than enough to win the match. Yes, a bad decision by Ira in a long line of bad, flip-flopping decisions.
Not until late 77 when CBS screws MG, this aired in early March of 76, which became number 2 for one year and then fell off the charts. Family Feud would be number 1 for 2 years whereas The Price Is Right took over that spot making Family Feud number 2 until 83 when it fell off the charts.. Interesting side note, FF would also be number 2 for 4 years again behind The Price Of Right during the Ray Comb's years of 89 to 93.
@@sdlively27 Game Show ratings really amaze me especially with Family Feud. Family Feud was pulling in strong number behind The Price Is Right, even being in the 10:00 am timeslot and WOF being the lead into TPIR. It’s something how the show’s ratings went down after it was expanded to an hour format. I wonder what contributed to its lost in viewership. Talk shows?

Lauren has Billie Jean King going on. She wears it well.
