I was absolutely shocked! I expected an Aston Martin DBS or a Rapide as typical of James Bond style film and the Vanquish in the previous Johnny English film but after saying that, the Rolls Royce is perfect for this role. A proper British car for a proper British film. Ouzes class and dignity.
I actually once was speaking to a guy who attended a Rolls Royce car show and was talking to one of the owners of one of the Rolls Royce and the owner told him that "this is the Cadillac of Rolls Royces" when referencing how top of the line and sought after his Rolls Royce was
Let's appreciate the fact they made that engine look as glorious as those from 50 years ago and put it on display without plastic tat getting in the way
im curious, UK brands like range rover, aston martin, bentley, Jaguar and rolls royce has always been part of movies... i have never seen mclaren been use in any movies. james bond etc
James Bond being a British super hero, and a British Franchise ( like Johnny English as well ) , tend to stick to their roots and use their own cars in the movie.
Such a unique engine, and we never get to hear it at wide open throttle. Blasphemy. It was designed by BMW, therefore somebody must run it with straight pipes and no catalytic converters. It's their duty to the world of true car lovers!
No, Rolls Royce belongs to BMW. They used one of the prototype engines that were built for an V16 E32 (just 2 were built-one with some huge rear air intakes and one in extra long...ua-cam.com/video/9I3fSwYb3ko/v-deo.html (german language, series is named "Alte Schule")
If he's so 'English' then why does he use the awful american word 'Automobiles'? (Which NO Englishman would ever utter in a million years). - I'll tell you why: Because YET AGAIN our film industry is pandering to the bloody yanks. Yet somewhat bizarrely he goes on to use the correct word 'Bonnet' as apposed to the american 'Hood'. Strange.

It’s finally a modern car of any kind where the manufacturer wasn’t afraid of covering the motor with a lump of plastic.

You'd probably have to, since you would have sold your house to buy it.
Is it really a v16
Yes. The Phantom was designed for it, but they went with the V12 instead. Jeremy Clarkson talked about it in Rowan Atkinson's Top Gear interview.
