I actually "beefed up" a PROTEC trombone gig bag with 3/8 inch thick stick back sound proof foam..worked great ...I used the foam inside the slide section..it really worked wonderfully..

That is the most brilliant design I've ever seen. For a beer cooler, perhaps...

The dumbest child on my section got one of these, and decided to use it instead of his lightweight fiberglass case. You honestly can't even tell there is an instrument inside of it... People have probably thrown it across our band hall with the instrument inside thinking it was empty in an attempt to clear up the clutter..

That gig bag wouldn't be able to protect a pistachio.....

I use this very bag with a rigid slide sheath for my bass trombone. I have a specially made padded bag that fits inside the bell for my mouthpiece. It works well with that modification and recognition that this is not a case. It's a scotch above carrying your horn open. It's only useful for where you have decent control of the horn. Definitely useless for anytime your horn would be out of your site. You have to know where and when and with whom you may use it. This is the equivalent to carrying your infant in a carrier strap. You can't sit the kid down, but it's light so you can carry anything that doesn't bump into your kid. In my case, a music stand and chair from the rehearsal room to the sanctuary. Or plate and a drink. A heavy case is a younger man's game.

While I agree with your assessment of the bag's quality, I have to disagree with your assessment of its usefulness. I've had one for several years and it worked fine for me. Caveat - I only use it when portability is an absolute must (parade, second line, long walk from car to gig...). And, no, I would never put anything into it that was worth the price of a used car with no engines or wheels. But, if you have a beater bone (stop laughing) and want to look almost stylish while attending your outside gig, these are okay.
But no, don't expect it to do anything other than carry the trombone.

Hey Trent, I've scrolled through the comments, and noticed that you said your father passed away. I'm ever so sorry for your loss, he's in a better place, and most of all... you are a great UA-camr, don't listen to anyone who tells you different! Follow your dreams!

You should do a video that involves fixing this case, much like how you fixed the worlds most bounciest valves.

I would simply apply sticky - back 3/8 or 1/2 inch soundproofing foam inside the case cut to size..works great in cases I have "rescued" for other musicians who had the misfortune to come across a gig bag of lesser quality...the 1/2 stuff really beefs up the bags...and really protects the instrument...

I use a gig bag for my euphonium and for its price it's amazing I paid €30 and it protects it will with enough pockets for a family of 10 to live in a at least 2 inches a foam around the instrument with good structure , just goes to show price doesn't always mean everything

I've heard fusion bags are great and by just looking at the specs they are light years ahead of this bag but also much more pricey

I play trombone occasionally. I purchased a horn second-hand from an antique shop for pretty cheap. I didn't have a case at all, and now, for $30, I bought this one. I use it often, and it makes my life easy. My mouthpiece has its own case, and, since the padding is decent, nothing gets damaged. I carry my music with one of my two god-given hands, because the backpack straps also work great. My only concern is that the zippers will start to catch and break. Although, 1 year in, they still function properly.
A trombone, or any fragile instrument for that matter, is better inside a case like this than not at all. Trent has great videos, but this felt a tad prudish. Buy the case if it's all you can afford. It ain't pretty, but it works just fine. If you're a serious player, and you actually win jobs and get paying gigs, then of course, invest in something with more longevity.

I stumbelt apon your Videos and I really love them, since my grandpa used to play the trumpet/Flügelhorn / cornet in a brass Band. I want to learn also, sadly my grandpa does not life nearby to teach mě the trumpet. So long Story short, should I learn Trombone or trumpet? I have never played any brass Instrument before. Keep up the great work.

Hi Trent. I’m a trumpet player and was thinking of taking up trombone. I was thinking either bass trombone or contrabass. Was wondering what the differences are between the two? Many thanks and love your channel

    • @Firake12
      @Firake12 6 років тому

bass trombones are a larger but same pitched version of tenor trombones (albeit with an extra valve) and the contrabass trombone is an even larger but lowered pitch version, essentially a tuba shaped like a trombone

I don't own a Velocette, unfortunately. This shirt belonged to my father who passed away. He owned several - a KSS, MAC, a LE at one point... But they've all been sold now. I did inherit a 1950's Royal Enfield 500.

My dad got me a silver trumpet he didn't wanted to get me it in the first place but why did he got for me anyways? Cause my mom promise me that I will get a sliver trumpet but unfortunately, my mom passed away so for that my dad had to get a silver trumpet for me! And it's a two hundred dollar trumpet which is on Amazon, it better than my six or seven hundred dollar trumpet which is a Jupiter trumpet and my new trumpet is a bit taller than my Jupiter trumpet, and the reason why I'm talking about this because I want Trent to buy this two hundred dollar trumpet it's a mendini trumpet, my brother says it's a trash it and I say it's a worth it so I want you to decide if my two hundred dollar mendini trumpet is worth it or not.
