The 2024 Nissan Z Performance Is Proof That The Japanese Sports Car Is Alive & Well

  • Despite the industry pushing for electric vehicles and handsfree driving autonomy, there has never been a great time for enthusiasts to get their hands on a sports car. #Nissan revived the historic #NissanZ last year and while it utilized a few carryover parts from the previous generation, the iconic design of the new #Z and the track ready #NissanZNismo shows that Nissan is not quite ready to give up on the heritage of the Z with enthusiasts.

Love the new Z. It definitely has room for improvements but the Z was always meant to be modified. I wish the base was $38k and the performance was $45k, Like the 370z once was.

Unpopular opinion: This car is a much better driving experience than a Supra. Supra feels rough and visibility was a problem when driving it. Z feels like I can commute with it and have fun while Supra is strictly for weekend fun.

The 370Z was overpriced vs rivals which helped it undersell.
The interior door panels in this car are from the 370z. The chassis is from the 370z. The transmission is front the Q50. The engine is from the Q50.
This was the car that should have succeeded the 350Z.
    As is.
It’s too little too late for too much.
The car doesn’t seem special beyond the styling.

@@johnyaskoveakarpaccio4737 break in = getting use to driving an auto. Lame but I have a bad knee, or id still have my 350. The paddle shifting is actually pretty awesome and takes a lot of the jerkyness and intensity out of driving. That being said, the sport mode with manual paddle shifting is roughly just as fun as a manual Z. You have to wait for the car to warm up, otherwise the paddle shifting sucks really bad. The shifts are terrible when its cold. Its my 3rd black Z, was going to get a nismo but I couldnt justify the extra money for 20hp and no heated seats.

Great review of one of the all-time great "Affordable" sport coups. The only thing that could make this way, way, way more fun and way quicker off the line, and greatly improve the 30 to 90 speed, is to dump the outdated, slow turbos and replace them with a 125HP Electric Hybrid motor for that great V6. With a Hybrid powertrain, this car should be doing 3.4 seconds 0-60 at least.

Really cogent and comprehensive review. I just turned over 1000 miles on my 2024 w/ AT and I agree with virtually all of your comments on this vehicle. It's a VERY drivable car at low -moderate speeds but does get a bit rubbery when you push it. I added some stiffer sway bars, which help both body roll and numb-ish electric steering, but doesn't really help the softer chassis or softer suspension. This is my 9th Z car since my 240Z in 1970 and of all of those, this is the one I like the best. More thrilling than even my 1982 ZX Turbo, which was one of the fastest cars I ever had, but had even worse handling. Eventually, I may add a chassis bar and will definitely add the Michelin PSS tires, both of which + sway bars I had on my 370Z's.

  • @backnu

And it's a very old platform. A 350z chassis that's 20+ years old. It's a 43k car, not a 52k car for a performance version. I'd bite for 43k loaded. It's missing a modern chassis, adaptive -dampers, active exhaust, REAL drive modes.
You haven't mentioned the dated display and lag. It has C7 type-graphics and a Nissan Pathfinder screen.
Parts-bin special to the max! It's simply a half-baked car.
And Nissan said 80% new. I'd say 36% new.
And can you make a video without mentioning electric vehicles? Some of us care less about them.

I am glad to be the first to comment; it is sad that here in the Bay Area, California, it is tough to see the Z on the street compared to Supra. It almost comes down to Nissan's dealer still adding market adjustment on the Zs even today. Also, Nissan should make LSD a standard on every Z to justify performance against the Supra( especially after the Supra gets a manual version). Coming from the teenager who worshiped GTR and the 350Z as a child, I wish they sold the Z well to keep the NISMO department aloft. Or will they be like Mitsubishi to kill off the Z and the ever-lasting GT-R like the the EVO. And I don't want that day to come.

It’s worth the money but I wish they had built the Nismo for the masses and just priced it at about $56,000. The regular and performance trims are quite good but the Nismo trim is legitimately quite a bit better. More HP and torque and they go through that 9 speed automatic and makes it much better and they tighten the steering up more and redo the suspension and put wider tires on the front and back. 265 in front and 285 in back. Up from 255 front and 275 back in the non Nismo trims. The Nismo 0-60 is 3.8-3.9 seconds all day everyday. It’s only a 20 hp and 34 lb ft increase but it’s very noticeable. The Nismo is about 0.3 inches lower too. It has more aero features too in front and back that creates legitimate downforce. Spoiler goes all the way across the car in back and front bumper is new and more atteactive and have fins for downforce. And is has lighter wheels too. All it’s missing is some T-tops lol. And on the Nismo trim the brakes are furthur upgraded. They are good on performance trim but great on Nismo. It’s really an awesome car that I wish they had made for the masses.

Oh well, performance z in manual with some bolt-ons, maybe a slight tune will have to suffice. It’ll probably be cheaper than the Nismo and will make similar power too (after said bolt-ons and tuner are complete on the performance model). Every sports car worth mentioning all have a ridiculous markup price anywhere between $5,000-$20,000.
Dealerships are evil. Never pay more than MSRP for any car. Buying cars with markup price only encourages these bastards to continue marking up vehicle price and allow them to tell the sensible buyers that "people are buying these cars at markup so it's not as ridiculous as you're suggesting." 😑

We can be glad that Nissan keeps on with at least one sportscar, since they discontinued the GTR in Europe! Even if the new Z takes a few optical features from the 370Z the new one will outstand from all these standard looking bulk cars on our streets. Unluckily, the new Nissan Z Nismo is available only with automatic transmission so that´s why I´d rather stay with my 370Z Nismo since it´s manual gearboxed.

Like others have commented. It’s impossible to find or see one at a dealer or on the road. I was interested in one since I used to have an old 260z. But, I guess Nissan must be hiding them from being purchased?

It’s sounds like the new Zs has heavy duty clutches in them and I love that. If you have women legs you won’t like heavy duty clutching, Those long shift throws …. I had on my ‘71 Mach 1 , ‘71 Charger r/t and my 68 & 70 VWs , again I love that bc I shown many ppl how to drive stick with my cars.
I’m surprised that car doesn’t have fog lights in front after adding dual turbos - really?

The new 2025 Z needs a new low price leader with a 2.0 T 4 cylinder putting out ~ 290 hp ( from the Altima) and sell it for 35k

    • @alexceni377
      @alexceni377 10 місяців тому

The maxima is basically their 35k car, base model z isn’t bad for 44k compared to Supras 2.0 base model at the same price.

    • @UnitiveWILLIAM24
