So my specific kit is the iFixit Mako kit. I’ll drop an affiliate link so you can check it out. amzn.to/3UDKPzD But the screw holder is actually just the lid! It’s a very well designed kit to have segments like that in the lid to help sort the screws.
So, I believe I misspoke there. I don’t think that there is any issue with using a 101 screen in a 001 body. Having said that, if you’re replacing the screen anyway and don’t already have a 101 screen to use, I would suggest looking into an IPS screen mod. I just put an IPS screen in a BoxyPixel shell swap I was doing and damn is that screen nice.
Dude, I just got a ole broken gba sp, that I was excited since it would be a project and I will be using this tutorial and I’m subbing ❤❤❤❤ Thankyou you’re fucking awesome
Hi thanks for the vid, in my case the screen in working fine (well it's an 001, so...) is it possible to just replace the glass ? It seems to be "glued" like for the gameboy color... In my case i also have to replace the top case with a lot of scratches, and the battery cover, the boring part is i can't find top cover with nintendo logo ... thanks for your answer.
So while it is possible to replace just the lens without replacing the entire LCD, I have never done it before. But I found a couple videos that will walk you through the process. Just look up “GBA SP screen lens replacement” and it should lead you to what you’re looking for.
@@TheCartCollector hi, thanks it seems a small cuter is enough to remove it, am not sure of wish screen may be better between an original 101 (with some modification)or an ips screen....the fact of loosing the backlight function in the second case can be really boring...i just want to replace the glass by a tempered glass one, but loosing the "GAME BOY advance sp" writing do'esn't seem so cool".
@vincentp98 unless you already have a 101 screen, I’d say go with the IPS. I did some ips screen replacements for some friends of mine and those are amazing. And you can still use the backlight button if you get the right screen (and know a bit of soldering). I bought the ones I did through BoxyPixel and they were great.
@@TheCartCollector i will continue searching, well it seems that solderless solution exist...still have works to do with a faulty power board's game gear ;)
Thanks for a reply. When I search I can only find the screen protector things for £2/£3 - it isn’t the actual screen that you connect. How much do you think I should pay. I was thinking about putting an after market Pokemon sapphire case on also , would this something a beginner could do ? Thanks for the video I left a like
Fair price really depends on the kind of screen you are getting. So I look on ebay and I see screens going for anywhere from $15-$30 USD. I would think going higher than that would start to feel like getting ripped off. AGS-001 screens will be on the cheaper end of that and AGS-101 screens are on the higher end. 101 screens are objectively better and more sought after, which is why they demand the higher price. If you wanted to go a little more involved an IPS Screen is going to be the best option (IMO) But youre getting into the $50 USD range at that point. And some of them require a slight bit of soldering to get the most out of them. As for the shell swap. If that's all you're doing, then I think a beginner should be able to handle it pretty easily. Just find a good walkthrough video and make sure to keep your parts organized so you don't forget to put something back in place (like I've done...... several times). Otherwise, its a fairly easy project.

So if I try to replace a 001 screen with the 101 it won’t work? Cause that’s what I was hoping to do. The 001 screen is trash!

where do you buy the replacement screen?
I bought mine on Ebay. You could tell it was a donor, probably a screen leftover when someone did an IPS mod or something.
