His accent becomes broader when he's at a Scottish venue.
The "gibberish" bit was him reciting the names of crazy-sounding Scottish guys who will give the night a lift.
Thanks bud
This was a stand up set I went to see. It’s filmed in Glasgow, Scotland and most of the audience is Scottish, so that’s why I think his accent gets stronger.
Love all the videos guys it’s great to watch
Ahh that makes sense . Because I understood what he said the last clip I watched him in he was much clearer. Thanks for watching bud
All of his stand up routines that CE from his own shows are all filmed in his hometown of Glasgow though. Sometime's some of the words are a bit stronger in terms of local dialect.
@@AfterWorkReactions Yeah this is his home crowd, no Anglicization of his accent here, well actually he is holding back his natural accent ever so slightly here too, just not by much, this is basically the accent you'd hear between two random guys on a Glasgow street
He’s talking about “an empty” which is a house party you’d have as a kid when your parents when out and it would get out of hand, and this is about how it goes if it was happening as an adult
"One mair (more) hour, the Spar´s open (a supermarket) we´ll get cans."
Thanks bud
He was playing to his hometown of Glasgow, so he didn’t need to control his accent! That’s the reason it’s so thick. Scottish comedians billy Connelly, Danny Bhoy ,Daniel sloss, you know Kevin bridges and Frankie Boyle there’s more just can’t think at moment. Best wishes from Glasgow.🏴
I think the gig was in scotland so he didnt clean up his accent as much
Ahh that makes sense . Because I understood what he said the last clip I watched him in he was much clearer. Thanks.
After Work Reactions no worries, just got to get your ears tuned in to the accent a bit and you can understand it no problem, thats why i normally watch a few vids at a time. By the 3rd i can normally get most of it 😂
Yeah, this is unfiltered Glaswegian. It's really quite different to English. You did OK at understanding though! Some people from England can't understand full Glaswegian. When people from Glasgow (and lots of other places) are speaking to folks from the other end of the UK, they actually make an effort to speak English in a more standard manner. The accent situation in the UK is so diverse and so heavy, that we actually struggle to communicate sometimes!
Aye it's in Glasgow, which is where he is from, which is one of his bits how you can speak normally when you go home to Scotland
I was at this exact show in October 2018, in Glasgow. He said at the start of the show he was putting on his posh accent because it was the recording night. So the night before it was probably pure Glaswegian. Beautiful
Part of it is his strong Glaswegian accent, and part of it is terminology (e.g. ‘the Spar is open, we’ll get cans’ = ‘The convenience store is open, we’ll get some beer’) - great video, guys!
Everything he said, I can relate to. Those nights are missed.
As an American living in Europe I went on a tour of the Tower of London conducted by one of the famed Beef-eater guards who spoke with a severely thick dialect. My wife, whose first language is not English but speaks English well, asked me to tell her what he was saying. I said "sorry, but I can't understand him either!"
Billy Connolly! He's the legend of Scottish comedy. 👌👌
4:40 "one more hour and the spars open" Spar is a supermarket that sells amongst other thing beer
Thanks a ton bud
@@AfterWorkReactions It's actually at 4:22
This is us Glaswegians raw & unfiltered accent 🤣
1:54 "disco, risher, nasher, someone that can turn your night out into 4 nights out". Disco, Risher nasher etc are nicknames for his pals
Yes this particular gig was in Glasgow, if I remember correctly. So his accent wouldn’t have been dumbed down for an English audience as much. A good one is Kevin Bridges on Grenade by Bruno Mars :)
Thanks a tone bud we will check this one out.
Kevin Bridges is hilarious but alot of his jokes are about scottish culture and society that may not come across very well. The guy is fantastic though.
This was filmed in Glasgow. Its so funny, spar is like corner shops.
Cans are like tins of beer 🍺
There is frankie boyle who is Scottish,
Billy connolly too.
Newer ones Danny bhoy quite good too.
Dave Allen was Irish xx
Thanks appreciate you breaking it out down for us. Also I added the others to the list thanks a bunch.
yeah Danny Bhoy is good... doesn't get enough coverage...probably a bit easier to understand too
If you can find a comedian called Larry Dean he is hilarious 😆
Whoever asked for this reaction obviously didn't think about the difficulties of the accent. If you're going to request Kevin Bridges, pick an understandable video.
Danny Bhoy is a good scottish comedian even tho I haven't heardcabout him in a few years.
Matthew Petty yes! Love Danny Bhoy. Hugely ignored comic.
Thanks bud I will him out appreciate it.
@@misstrussteLgbTq Totally agree
Think I saw him on a Live at the Apollo.
For some reason, reminds me of an Indian David Tennant!
I'm English but lived in Glasgow for 4yrs and I still had problems in bits lol thanks for the 😂😂
Billy Connelly is immense!! Oldies but Goodies!!
Alot of Kevin's stuff is based on life in Glasgow and like Frankie his accent gets stronger in Glasgow lol
You should watch him on the Graham Norton show its hilarious 👍
In the previous eipsode he was in England and normally softens his accent. This was recorded in Glasgow where it's his real accent
An American laughing at a heavy Scottish accent 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 loving it
A Glasgow accent is "thicker" than a generic Scots accent. Then you add in local lingo.
Donald Duck My step father who is from Edinburgh sometimes finds it hard to understand someone from Glasgow.
@@alisonrandall3039 the only place in the UK I didn't have a clue what they were saying was when I worked in Newcastle. I didn't have a fucking clue. Proper old timers.
Geordies and Glaswegians have the thickest accents in the UK other than the Welsh
I’m from Ayrshire, our accents are thick
I've lived in Glasgow going on 8 years, and I can just about understand Kevin Bridges.
Hello from Glasgow! Love yer vids. Keep up the good work. Limmy is a good Glaswegian sketch comic to check out. Also might be tricky to tune into the accent though.
You guys really need to do a Billy Connolly reaction. He's the king of Scottish comedy and he is easy to understand too. Without a doubt one of the greatest comedians to have ever lived. If you can find the bus story you will laugh your head off
We got his DVD at Christmas , I couldn't make out a word
I’m from Northern England and while I don’t have a problem understanding him. He really has a thick Glaswegian accent. So I wouldn’t be surprised at anyone not understanding him. Even I miss the odd word lol.
I’m English and have to piece it together BUT Kevin is brilliant.
Kevin Bridges learning Spanish is a great one and would be easier for u guys to understand him 😊
Billy Conolly is another great Scottish comedian
He said at 4.14, mayhem ensues at the suggestion of a 6am curfew, you's ( do you all ) want to call it a night, want to fu** man, one more hour and there's Spars open ( a UK grocery store) and we can go and get cans ( of beer )
Hope that helps you 😁
The crucifixion by Billy Connolly is brilliant I think it audio only but it's worth a watch. love the channel guys 💚
You must have heard of Billy Connolly. Robin Williams favourite comedian. He's like in the top three of all time with George Carlin.
Try Danny Bhoy, either the Scottish Tourist Board film, or the first traditional ceilidh (dance) experience. Great channel guys.
This was in Glasgow i was at this show his great live :)
I'm from Glasgow, no probs for me lol.....anyone got a nokia charger?
Any more Scottish comedians?
Billy Connolly!
Dave Allen is Irish.
Another great Irish comedian, Tommy Tiernan
Thanks bud we will check them out.
For Irish comedians Id go for Dylan Moran or David ODoherty too. The two of them have got a really unique style and are really top class in my opinion
Dave Allen is Irish and old school and nice man R.I.P.
The Ricky Gervais Show, 'Karl's Future Predictions', and 'Karl Pilkington Police Negotiator', please.
Oh, and 'Karl Pilkington KP Plumbing'.
Thanks for the suggestions bud I really appreciate it.
Stick with him he has loads of hilarious clips on UA-cam
Billy Conolly most famous Scots comedian.
His accent is really heavy, but the bit you missed at 4:20 - the joke is about newly married men, or new fathers rarely getting the chance to go out and party any more, so when they do, they'll do anything to stay out longer, even beyond a 6am curfew. So with that in mind, what he says then is: "You want to call it a night? What the fuck, man - one more hour! The Spar's open, we'll go and get cans." In the UK 'Spar' is the name of a store like 7-Eleven, open all night and it sells booze
Spar
@@temptemp633 aha, yeah you're right
The ol glaswegian accent tripping you up. He's a funny guy is kev
Kevin is from Glasgow and it is a very coarse and strong accent. The other accent that's a little easier on the ears is the Aberdeen accent. That one is more atuned to Mrs Doubtfire by Robin Williams. I'm an English man and most of us can understand Glaswegian, but you have to hang off of every word
Daniel sloss is the comedian you were thinking of, his dark and jigsaw specials are a great watch
Welcome to Glaswegians, tough to dial in. Kevin was at home so didn’t clear up his accent
You must know Billy Connely?? Hilarious...
You 2 are so cute...……...Kevin is great!
Paranoid wreck looking for a Nokia charger 🤣
To be honest it's just as funny seeing your confused reactions to his accent!
I'm American and I understood every word, but I grew up watching the Craig Ferguson show.
Craig Ferguson's accent was far too watered down for the American audience.
He did that gig in Glasgow
He is Scottish and I am Scottish so I get all the jokes but you are getting the satire here, keep it up
Karen Dunbar - "Who's this young boy, Shanika?"
Stanley Baxter - "Parliamo Glasgow"
American translation 04.12 ...... dont go home now, in one hour the liquor store is opening and we can get some more beers and carry on drinking
I'm an ex pat in Scotland. I do a lot of nodding and smiling. Check out a clip on Scots in an elevator.
I'm Scottish and I struggle to understand him at times ha
lol I feel much better now
I'm from the UK and even I can't understand half of what hes saying 😂
You should be ashamed
The Spar is open means it`s a small supermarket that sells cans of beer.. I am Scottish it`s pretty hard for other nations to understand our banter
More Karl Pilkington please 🤣🤣👏🏻
Daniel Sloss is a great Scottish comedian to check out. Or any classic Billy Connolly.
Thanks a ton
I'm half Scottish and live in England right next door to these guys and we still don't know when they are happy, sad or even understand what the hell they are saying xD
Do more on Karl pilkington. Use had me in stitches with the video yesterday 😂😂😂
Needs to do idiot abroad if possible or do segments of it such a great show
Thanks bud we will be watching more Karl for sure.
Jon Young I think they should react to whole episodes instead of clips
His accent will be really strong to you guys but you're doing really well!!
Yeah, Kevin Bridges does have a strong Glaswegian accent. He doesn't annunciate as much as other Glaswegian comedians like Frankie Boyle or Danny Bhoy.
the spar is open is a corner shop
One more hour and Spar's open, we'll go and get cans. = One more hour and the store is open, we can get more beer.
If you're after Scottish comedians then Billy Connolly or Janey Godley!
Thanks a bunch for the translation and recommendation lol.
You need to watch Graham Norton worst Hotel reviews. So funny.
kevin bridges is fabulous, people from the usa just wont understand the glasgow accent, you guys check out bovinity by irish comedian tommy tiernan...hilarious
Dave Allen was Irish, Frankie Boyle is Scottish and a good Welsh comedian for you to check out is Rhod Gilbert.
that is clean Scottish accent :)
Dave allen was irish. Passed away 2005. R.i.p.
1.50. He's talking about that 1 crazy guy everyone knows. . 'Disco' 'Riser' 'Knasher' .. Can turn an one night into a four night out (Krusher get us an eigth an we can go to an all nighter)
At 4:29 when you paused it and said you missed that what did he say , he said One more hour, The spar is open ( shop ) and we will go get cans ( tins of lager or cider)
@4:22 "You guys want to call it a night?"
"Mon tae fuck man, 1 more 'our 'nd the spar's open; we'll go get cans!"
Translation
"Fucking come on man! In just one more hour the spar (franchise of corner shops) will be open and we can buy some cans [of alcoholic beverages] to keep the party going"
Every morning I get up in the UK to watch your videos!! It’s a perfect start to my day under lockdown. By the way I don’t understand what he is saying! It’s very hard to understand some Scottish.
We were able to catch about 70% of what he was saying . His other two videos I could understand 99% of it . Just seemed to much heavier to some reason in this video. Thanks ton for watching really means alot. I know the more we watch the more we will understand.
One fun thing to do with Kevin Bridges is enable UA-cam's auto-subtitles and watch the algorithms struggle.
Theres a great Scottish comedian called Larry Dean.
Thanks a ton bud its added to the list.
Fucking hell, I’m British and struggled to get most of what he said 😂
Aye believe he is in his home town wich is Glasgow scotland an A lister pal meaning friend the part after is a list of friends names
Peter kay's (car share) is good because it is realistic in normal life scenarios
The only things you seemed to miss were direct references to things. The first sentence you said you missed were just a series of nicknames and the second time "spar" is the name of a chain of shops.
Hi Josh and Taylor, I love your reactions to these videos, don't beat yourselves up about the accent here, I'm English and have to listen real hard too Kevin Bridges is great but you have to tune your ears in to follow the strong Glasweigen accent. Dave Allen was Irish, and try Billy Connerlly for a Scotsman he's fantastic, he's been in poor health recently, but find his stand up from 10 years ago at so, he's a fearless great character, I think you'll love him
I was going to suggest watching with subtitles on but just tryed it and 1 in 8 words were wrong
you should check out henning Wehn's Interpol story on would I lie to you. he is always very entertaining on that show
Thanks bud we will check him out.
Daniel Sloss is a Scottish comedian and I'm sure Danny Bhoy are worth checking out. They are cleaner sounding scottish accents (more easterly Edinburgh)
Wait another hour and the Spar will open (local minimart) and wee can get more cans (of beer)
Roisin conaghty on 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. You'll love her!
I agree!
Thanks we will check her out .
You should watch Stewart lee, he's absolutely brilliant. A good routine to watch is the scooby doo Thatcher routine. If you don't know who thatcher is, then a good routine to watch is the damned immigrants routine, don't worry it's not what it sounds like.
Thanks bud we will check him out by the sound of the title seems like it will be good.
Hi you guys are great ,I'm from bradford England, if you like Scottish comedians you should watch ,FRANKIE BOYLE. He's one funny dude
Hey Guys! Saw you reacted to a couple Karl Pilkington vids, just requesting a short one titled "Karl Pilkington on Learning Science" all best, stay safe, peace :)
I'm pretty good with accents. I also have no doubt that his sense of humor is great and has that down-to-earth, common man, no airs quality.... but I definitely needed the libretto for the Scottish brogue to English translation on that one! I get almost everything Frankie Boyle says, but this one was tough.
If you want to test yourself, watch/listen to "Here you, that'll be right" by "The Weeman" - it's a rave song, sung at full-speed, bursting with slang and delivered in a very thick Glaswegian accent.
Lol thanks a ton i'm glad I wasn't the only one.
Ill check this out too.
@@AfterWorkReactions There are several versions - this link is for the original and best. Shot on a shoe-string budget and using very shitty locations, it's like an anti-tourist advert!
/watch?v=scNLfr1EP08
I was born and raised in Glasgow and it's a pure joy to hear fluent "ned" set to music!
If you want scottish, try Fern Brady, Larry Dean, Danny Bhoy, Obvs Frankie Boyle and Billy Connolly
An 'empty' is when your a teenager and your mum and dad are away so you get all your mates round for a piss up and a 'VL' is virgin lips and people would say it to make fun of you in primary school if you hadn't kissed a girl before lol
He´s playing hsi home town of Glasgow, so he can let the dialect run more stongly. He does do jokes about enunciating more clearly when he´s on TV in England and then getting harangued when he gets back home.
"his"!
More Lee Evans please. love you guys
When one night turns into four nights, and curfew,
Thanks bud
Death Star canteen - Eddie Izzard. Even funnier if you watch the Lego version.
Watch Billy Connolly's 1st in the US on H.B.O he was introduced by whoopi Goldberg
