Yours Is an Empty Hope should be your next Nightwish reaction so I can watch Judson fall out of his chair...
Oh show him "Yours is a Empty Hope" 2015 Wembley
Nothing impresses me more than people who have the musical abilities of this guy.
To let judson fall of his chair, listen to 'Yours is an empty hope'. 😊
The gentleman in the Blue shirt is musically on another level. Very interesting. Yes, we all love the Valkyrie Goddess.
Master🇸🇪
One of my best friends could arrange on the fly like that. It was endlessly wonderful. Great guy to jam with.
I feel honored by this shout-out, and because you decided to continue exploring Nightwish's music. of course, you have a new subscriber here. The list of songs that I am promoting contains their most successful songs, most of them performed live, but it is not a mandatory route to follow - for example, towards the end Judson was a little scared that Floor could sing with distortions. Floor also masters this vocal technique, which she experimented with extensively especially with her previous band, ReVamp, but there is also a song from their 2015 album called "Yours Is An Empty Hope" in which she sings consistently with distortions ( it's part of the list, obviously). I await with great curiosity your next steps in this adventure.
Greetings from Romania!
Salute.
Ann would be so proud. The love and compassion continues.
Thank you Gabriel
Salute General.
Yo Gabriel!
I can not wait for "The Greatest Show on Earth" reaction. I am curious to hear what Judson thinks of the piano work.
Who knew that "Storytime" could be a killer piano solo?
“This is Judson…”
“Yudson!”
THAT is my kind of humor! 😅
I truly… deeply!… hope that “The Poet and the Pendulum” live and “Shoemaker” in-studio are on your Nightwish list. If UA-cam alerts me that you’re reviewing one of these two, I’ll cold-stop what I’m doing and grabbing my phone.
Awesome reaction guys! You should also react to "The Poet and the Pendulum" and "The Greatest Show on Earth" by Nightwish!
Take a look "Walking in the air" by Nightwish from the movie Snowman. One of the best performance ever no matter is it live/official.
'Yours is an empty hope' Floor has a surprise there for you.
"If she does the guttural stuff, I will fall out my chair" - - "No no I don't thing so"
Floor; "Hold my whisky"
Ok, I want his piano interpretations of nightwish song! That was beautiful.
"The greatest show on earth" from Nightwish should be much more interesting for a musician like him, because it has so many different "episodes" or "movements" how you would call it in classic, and comes closer to how classic music tells a story too. I really recommend that.
Try, "how's the heart" Acoustic. You want her vocals raw, it's awesome.
I second that. Incidentally, that specific version was the only song that made me cry since the pandemic started.
Floor can do anything vocally, including growls, she is our Valkyrie Goddess. She is the best I have ever personally seen or heard, and I love all music. Nightwish is such a great band, and hope you continue your journey.
Oh I cant wait for Greatest Show on Earth. I know everyone will say do the Tampere Concert but IMO the 2015 Wembly show has the higher quality audio, a superior mix and Troy's guitar work, cheers
Just amazing and incredible how he just listens to the song and then afterwards just plays back the important melodies on the piano...
Amazing!
To only hear a song once and to be able to play the melody right away by ear is a real gift. Love your stuff guys.
It's not that hard if you have talent for music. I played my instrument as a child only by ear because I couldn't read notes for many years. I just thought that it's totally normal and everybody does that. I never learned to read notes properly and still played in orchestras etc. and many many times I learned my part by somebody else playing it first.
You also need to take into consideration that most Nightwish compositions by Tuomas are quite simple elemental vise.
It always fills me with awe when someone can hear a song once and then immediately play the melody themselves. I never managed to reach that level of musicality. Great reaction. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
That´s basic.
The composer of Nightwish, Tuomas, has been said to be a fan of the animated movie The Snowman, for which Nightwish made a remake of the song “Walking in the air”. A must hear in my opinion!
So glad you came back to Nightwish. New sub. Here NWA California
Take a look at Nightwish "Yours is an empty hope" where Marco does the chorus singing while Floor does the growling.
The T-Shirt!! Malevolent Creation, The Ten Commandments, what an album!!
Thank you for continuing to react to our beloved Nightwish with Floor on female lead vocals. Yes, it is easy to fall in love with our 6'1" Valkyrie goddess. Loved it.
The piano playing was so pretty, I wish there was a full piano cover. This song is so beautiful I could listen to it forever.
Coming soon I promise..
I've recently discovered Nightwish and I love them. Floor has such a fantastic voice and a great stage presence. Also, well done Richard for being able to just pick that up and play it so beautifully. Not everyone can play by ear. 🤘
found them last year aged 60 and never looked back everything i ever knew before means nothing now
They have an extensive catalog, enjoy!

The gutteral stuff - see YOURS IS AN EMPTY HOPE and fall off the chair. Hard.
Floor Jansen DOES do the gutteral / growling stuff! Not so much with Nightwish (although there are a few songs where she does some of it, such as "Yours is an empty hope", Live in Wembley 2015). However she did a lot more of that stuff with her previous band "Revamp".
A great example of the that is Revamp: Mysery is no crime, Live @Mezz Breda 2014.. It is a phone recording, but she will blow you out of your socks!
That Mezz Breda performance is just nutz.
@@paulriddle7818 Indeed! As in "crazy impressive"!
Nice job YES Floor growls also if you want to hear one skip to the song "Yours is an empty Hope" on Gabriel's list and hear for yourself
Oh, poor boy, you can fall off your chair, Floor does guttural stuff in "Yours is an empty hope"... :D
In Yours is an empty hope it is a bit difficult to hear, because Floor does the growling parallel to Marco singing. To experience it in its raw form, watch Floor's former band:
ReVamp - Disdain Live at Graspop (2010)
@@HWaiiBut sadly i haven't seen a revamp with good sound quality recording
You can hear some nice growls to in ghost river.
Watch the London (Wembley) version though... Much better Growls than in the other live version here one YT
I wouldn't call that a growl
No matter what you have subscriber from Ukraine. I am living in Ukraine during war, and your emotions give me some strength. Thank you sir. Love you, take care. 💛💙. I am currently taking vocal course to bring myself together. You helped me a lot with professionalism and soul that you bring to your reactions. Waiting for some more. Can't wait. Thanks.❤
Next one from Nightwish:
"THE POET AND THE PENDULUM" (Live Wembley 2015)
🤟🤟🤟🙏🙏🙏
2:57 As a Finn, your pronounciation of Tuomas on the second try was spot on!
Samaa mieltä.
Enjoyed it, thank you. NW Army old guy in Sc Cal here. Looking forward to your next reaction. BTW Justin / Yustin, put some pillows around your chair, so when you fall out of it you won't hurt yourself. She does some guttural growls, as you will see. Be well.
Amazing Nightwish ❤❤❤❤thank you😊
playing after the video is awesome...))))))
So beauiful to hear you play the piano. Thank you very much for your reaction. (Tuomas Holopainen is known to be a grown man, awesome composer AND....a child that loves to wonder in dairytales and the universe)
You pronounced Tuomas name it perfectly
Perfectly delicated and beautifull
15:30
AHAHAH She did the growl actually :D
in her previous band AND in the song : Nightwish - Yours is an Empty Hope (she do growl every chorus while Marco sing it :)
Check it out!
Hey guys, i really like your reaction videos and sense of humor. I would love to see a reaction to the most underrated Prog-Metal Band called Evergrey. My fav song by them is „Weightless“, it has it all, and Tom‘s voice will blow you away.
But as Judson is already a big fan of Floor, they have a song together called „In Orbit“. Keep up the good work, greetz from Austria.
Never heard of them, but wow, I do now 👍
Tom Petty: "ln to the Great Wide Open". Great song, but so is Nightwish's "Storytime". It's also all about universal storytelling. Yes, my gentlemen. Floor is the Queen, and l managed to saw them live before the break of now. 😎👍
DANG ❤🎉❤
… and WTF 🎉 DUDE laying that down on the piano … DANG ❤🎉❤
":If she can do gutterals i'd fall off my chair". She has some great growls in her band ReVamp. She only has one song that she goes harsh on with Nightwish and that is Yours is an Empty Hope ( Wembley Arena 2015.)
Best Live band and female vocalist in the World ! Wacken 2013 standard setting !
""great mesure"" Justin "if she start to do the guttural stuff, i ll fall offf my chair", Richard " I don t think so". ""Floor Jansen : Hold my beer" -> "Ghost river wacken 2013" // " Yours is an empty Hopes" wembley 2015🤣
I have to say that You Guys are doing top grade reactions, so keep them coming!
Oh my so many great live performaces left to hear and see !! Ive heard every NW song so many times its stlll great but not like the first time.😀
Great band! 😊
Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮
I love the way Judson pick up on the songs after just one listen. It reminds me of one of my father's uncles, he could pick up a song just by one listen to it on the radio or so. Great talent. We all love the Floor's command of the audience and her absolutely stunning voice. On the Gabriel list there is one song where Floor goes gutteral "Yours Is An Empty Hope". The best one to get her gutteral singing is either the Live At Wembley 2015 or Live in Mexico.
Yours Is An Empty Hope, Baltic cruise version is beter
You guys are great!
Love your NW reactions.
New sub.
Keep working the list 💪
The Snowman was written by an English author and illustrator called Raymond Briggs, but I have no idea who wrote the music. It's still a mainstay on Christmas TV over here in England and he had an instantly recognisable style. His kids books were favourites of mine growing up, particularly Fungus the Bogeyman and Burglar Bill, but he also made a brutal animated film about nuclear holocaust called When the Wind Blows, where an elderly couple try to survive in a devastated London. This traumatised the hell out of me the first time i saw it as was expecting a light hearted story as opposed to slowly melting grandparents.
None of that has anything to do with Nightwish, but hopefully was of some interest.
Another great video as always guys.
Heck, I learned to sing along the snowman flying song before I actually learned to speak English on 4th grade...
Gutturals you say.
Floor , hold my beer !
Check out ;
Yours is an Empy Hope - Nightwish
Disdain - Revamp ( Pre NW)
Literally the most versatile female vocalist on the planet.
But it's better put in context if you realise she can sing legit classical contemporary re Phantom of the Opera and pure
Operatic re O Mio babbino caro
Floor does "growl" a little in the live version of "Ghost River" from the same Wacken concert 😉
This reaction seems so refreshingly atypical and genuine - simply a joy. Thank you, I hope you have a lot of fun with this really special band.
Loved your impro over Storytime on the Piano very much
That piano playing after the NW video was great. For the first time I could hear echoes of the music of "Snowman" and now I understand that connection better. Thank you!!!
Nightwish has used the London Philharmonic Orchestra since 2004 ("Once" album). And are right now in London (Abbey Road studio) recording the orchestra and choir parts of their tenth album. According to the drummer's announcement, right now it's the turn of the children's choir parts and percussion instruments. After that, other orchestral instruments.
NW musicians' own instruments have already been recorded before. The NW musicians' vocal parts will then come at the end of the year.
Nightwish has so far released 9 studio albums and six of them have an orchestra involved.
In London, their contact is Pip Williams, who is a record producer, Arranger and guitarist, best known for producing albums for Status Quo and The Moody Blues and acting as well as Supervising the Orchestra parts and Orchestra arrangements for Nightwish.
Collaborators in London also include James Shearman (orchestra and choir conductor).
Two stories about that first one, the 2004 recording, when they didn't know each other in London yet. What Pip Williams and Tuomas Holopainen later commented:
1. Pip Williams has told the following story from Nightwish's first recording session in London. Usually the orchestra's musicians always leave home when the recording was made that day. After all, they are just employees there. But it was different with regard to Nightwish. Many times in the evening, after the recording session, those Musicians came to the control room to listen to what had been played during the day and what kind of music the members of Nightwish make. They liked Tuomas' compositional work, which was not similar to many other rock or pop bands they had worked with before. This was something completely new to them. Pip said that this behavior from those musicians was something "abnormal," something they usually never did.
2. Tuomas himself recalled the following from that first recording: "When the last night came and everything was recorded, I went to the studio room to thank the orchestra's musicians. They all stood up and applauded me. It was one of the Greatest Moments of my life."
When will people stop saying that the London Philharmonic played in Once 🤬
The Snowman is an English animated film directed by Dianne Jackson. Howard Blake has composed the music for the film, including the song "Walking in the Air".
15:30 You had it spot on there with the 2nd try Judson.
I'd give almost anything to be able make the music - all I could do was play the notes. It makes me appreciate those who make the music all the more. To watch Judson put what he had just heard to the key board was amazing. Enjoy your gift Judson, it was fun to watch you use it. If you continue on with Nightwish I think you'll be surprised at how many different directions their songs come at you and the size of the smile they leave on your face. This is a band that can rock your world and make you happy at the same time. Enjoy the ride.
Huge symphonic metal fan, looking forward to the reactions to Epica and Wintersun
My god, when he started playing at 12:30 I closed my eyes, and literally felt my soul leave my body. Absolutely beautiful!
I absolutely love Great Measures content I've seen so far, I 100% was not ready for the playing at 12:30, legit gave me chills. Such a talent to hear something essentially once and be able to play it or iterate on it like that, BRAVO!!
Sounds so beautiful at the Piano! ❤
goosebumps every time
If you want to hear Floor growl, listen to Yours Is An Empty Hope.
Well done, we love your insights.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. Check out NIGHTWISH - Yours Is An Empty Hope (LIVE) for the growls like gab said.
Ok, good review guys, really. Specifically, without talking too much.
Of course, they (Nigtwish band) play live, the partial background for their music is the earlier sound line, i.e. the orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra. Stage presence, happiness on their faces, perfection - this is what I like most in music - being happy with being on stage and transmitting energy to others!
Leaving aside Nightwis for a moment - I recommend Burgerkill "Killchestra" - An Elegy (Official Video) - seriously, it's the name of the band... from Indonesia.
You won't be disappointed, believe me.
This gives me chills that you listen to the song and then just play it. What an incredible mind, very talented.
The Poet and the Pendulum live from Wembley 2016 would be a good one to react to
It's the year 2015 version you actually want. The video titled "NIGHTWISH - The Poet And The Pendulum (OFFICIAL LIVE)" on the official Nightwish channel is the video you want to use. It also has all the lyrics in subtitles.
Tuomas Holopainen. Kiitos.
You are so funny guys, I love this channel 🙂 great job and I wish You the best! Thank You.
Another great vid.. I'm jealous of Judsons skills, and i wish i could pick things up that fast on my guitars after just 1 listen hahaha
Great reaction. Greetings from Mexico City 🇲🇽
Siinä on amerikan pojat ihmeissään.
Nice, now! You MUST do Nightwish - The Greatest Show On Earth!! This is as close as you get to classical music in modern times!
Loved this one, thank you!
You can not not like Storytime (well you can but shouldn't :P). I have wondered what and Empu solo would´ve sound like on this song, not needed but just a curious thought. And Floor is such a lovely soul off stage and in private yet so fun, badass and commanding on stage. Our metal valkyrie! And she does growls too... You see it surely when THAT song get´s suggested and picked ;)
And Judson was jamming at the end. It´s so cool when someone can hear a key and then just take off playing something along the melody of the song with it´s own flair to it. I would love to hear a full piece of what he played in a separate video. The chord progression is so tasty.
Ehm, actually you can. I feel Floor did not get a proper flow in the start of the song. And somehow it bothers me. I am no fan of Anette, but she did get a better flow on those first verses. When we get to the end and Floor blasts everyone away with those awesome operatic lines and powerful exit, then it is exactly right. Sorry, but the start of the song does not grab me. Also I am more a fan of the worldly themes than the fantasy-wish-I-could-be-a-child theme. Now, I totally get other people might feel this entire song is awesome, It just does not really work for me.
In "Yours is an empty hope" Floor growls as well. So prepare for the fall.
Ps: Live from Wembley 2015 would be a good fit for you.
New here. This is cool!
16:30 They can't travel with whole orchestra :D
Yes they playing LIVE, they just have some recorded layers (backvocals and some sympho)
Yes Tuomas plays a lot of thing on "piano", actually he has 3 of them on a stage ! But He just can't replace the whole orchestra :D
For the orchestral parts Tuomas always visits London and the London Symphonic Orchestra for recording his ideas, sometimes even together with a choir. He now successfully works together with this orchestra for many years. Later at the concert he replays these orchestral (and choir) parts controlling this from his keyboard stand. All other music and singing is live without any playback or something like that.
I’m laughing…
As a guy who has no clue how to play music…
And you hear the song one time, then break it out on the piano line you’ve heard the song a zillion times!
Love it!
😎
I’m proud of myself, I got “Free Falling” in four notes 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻
Floor does do growls not guttural
the North German Division of the Nightwish Army reports !! We are there. special greetings to the General of the Army > Gabriel Bardac <
(in your comments) and of course the rest of the Nightwish army and the sabaton family
love this song and its lyrics
Fantastic piano interpretation. Simple, but did catch the sound.
Your is An Empty Hope (Wembley 2015) or Romanticide (Wacken 2013) should be the next one. I'd also love for you to react to Gethsemane (Buenos Aires 2018) for some serious Bach vibes.... a song that Tuomas wrote when he was about 21.
Floor Jansen is third singer on Nightwish, first was Tarja Turunen amazing finnish opera singer, second was Anette Olzon swedish singer.
The band is from Finland.
Storytime is the proof that even when Nigthwish do their "Pop" songs, they doing it without cheezenesss.
For me it is a good reason for new listeners to be the second or first one to react to....
I also really like brutal Death like Vulvodynia, but when it come to Nightwish it's like i'm living a sensation experience.
I just been emotional when GreatMeasures played so well the chorus on the piano. Thank you so much!🔥😎🤘
Hello, it’s British, you need to check it out, lots of kids grew up with this& still today it’s on every Christmas on television , it’s brilliant ❤
The film is a Finnish-Canadian co-production. In Canada there were the necessary production opportunities that are missing in Finland.
The ride on the snowman is a flight into the soul of the main character. He is the age of a child and is introduced that way. It is also an indication of his inconsideration of those around him and refusal to take responsibility for himself and others. The snowman who carries him is his evil alter ego.
The film and album were created at the same time. Tuomas originally wanted a series of music videos so that they could be released individually. But the director Stobe Harju persuaded him to make a real film. The album music was adapted for the film by Petri Alanko and can usually only be heard in fragments.
The film is probably also the reason for the break with Anette. Anette became pregnant unplanned at the beginning of the tour and wanted an early termination. But the film cost $3.2 million and hadn't been released yet. The band didn't know whether they would be able to recoup the production costs. Anette was persuaded to hire a replacement for the end of the tour. However, she immediately rejected the guest singer suggested by Tuomas: Floor Jansen. She was afraid that the band didn't want her back because Floor was already an experienced metal singer and had made similar music. Despite this, Floor was hired by the band behind her back. When she found out, she probably threatened to resign to secure her position. However, the band accepted and had to hope that Floor could learn the setlist and get from the Netherlands to the USA in the next two days. Shortly afterwards the film had its world premiere in Finland and Floor sat in the front row. Nobody looked particularly excited. A little Q&A about the film at the German premiere the following year:
Imaginaerum premiere Berlin 2013
The film was only released in the USA in 2015.
The Growls question is clarified
NIGHTWISH - Yours Is An Empty Hope (LIVE IN MEXICO CITY)
or with her former band
ReVamp - Disdain Live at Graspop (2010)
ty for the reaction. i realy enjoyed both of your piano parts as well, great stuff👌
You really need to play more Nightwish on the piano.
Awsome.
The guttural stuff?
Yes she does.
Yours is an empty hope from Wembley Arena and Ghost River from Wacken (2 minigrowls, not everybody cathces it).
And in her previous band, ReVamp. (Distain from the Grasspop festival).
Great video. You should do “yours is an Empty Hope” she does the growls and Marco the clean vocals. She’s an incredible artist.
Oh my boy... she can do gutturals... she used to perform the harsh vocals live with her old band ReVamp.
