Thanks Philip. Apologies. I don't think I replied. It's a shame you learned it in E. I suppose the bonus is that it's not a bad thing to learn a great song twice. 😉
Thank you Phil! I've just started to make first steps to learn this instrument, but with your teaching I'm already enjoying the great songs of Dire Straits and Knopfler. Thank You!
Cheers Paul. I agree - I can still remember hearing Sultans on my old AM radio at the age of about 12 - I didn't know what it was, but i knew I wanted more!
Damn, thank you so much. Have been searching for a tutorial on this song for so long and i cant tell you how happy i am about finding this. The tutorial was very comprehenible and now i can finally play one of my favourites from dire straits.
thanks Phil for posting .First time on your channel, and also you saved me with the version on acoustic guitar because I only have an acoustic and at first I was try to play along with you with your electric guitar and was a bit hard but on the acoustic version it's easier ..for me. I already enjoying playing the reef I need to practice and eventually learn the song . God bless ....Danilo
Thanks Phil - appreciate the time you put into this. Playing this wonderful music with your help is just fantastic. It’s also valuable to me when you spend the time on amp and effects set up for each. All the best.
A really comprehensive video, thanks a lot for this!! Strangely enough I was thinking about learning this song a few months ago but never got down to it. Now I have no more excuse because finally I can learn it correctly too. 😀
Have been dying to know how to play this. I'm a huge fun of MK's style of playing and as a self taught learner to play guitar,, so grateful to discover your page. Please keep up this great work. Look forward to learn more from you going forward!
@@philcaffrey Hi, have you by any chance done a tutorial on the tune -Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero. I would really love to learn how to play it. Thank you in advance!
Muchas gracias Phil por tus lecciones, la verdad es que se agradecería tablaturas ,para los que tenemos algunas limitaciones, gracias y a seguir disfrutando de la guitarra.
Great stuff. I'm the same. Starting this channel has reintroduced me to some gems I haven't listened to in a while - it's like discovering his music all over again. 👍👍
I enjoy pink floyd, but i am also fond of Dire Straits. Hi. Thanks for your nice comment. It's much appreciated. For the backing, I record this myself in my home studio. You can see the mixer levels behind me in the video. I use Reaper as my Daw, Korg Krome for the keyboard and drum sounds and a Fender precision bass. I try to replicate the original sound as closely as I can which takes some time and a good ear, but it's fun. Cheers.
Hi Phil I have enjoyed your series of MK. Could you make a video of how to set up the Yamaha THR to get MK’s sound you mention adding some compression?
Hi Phil great tutorials, I’m not sure if it’s the camera angle, but your neck looks out of alignment, the dot markers should be between the d and g strings equal distance, it’s an easy fix which I’m sure you know, just loosen the screws on the back adjust the neck so the dots are in the middle, hold it then tighten the screws back up, hope you don’t mind me mentioning it, could just be camera angle.
Hi Phil, I came across your channel whilst searching You Tube for this very song. You play it beautifully and it makes me very keen to emulate what you do. However I find it difficult to follow both videos showing left and right hands. I was therefore wondering if you had any guitar tab that would help. Thanks Tony.
Hi Tony. Thanks for your note - it's much appreciated. I don't have tabs for this song, but thanks for the suggestion. What kind of tabs are you thinking of that will help? I tend to favour using listening as the main learning tool as that's how I learned all of MKs music, but if it's simple chord names/shapes that you need, I can add that into future vids.
Hi Phil, Thanks for your reply. I find it a bit difficult sometimes interpreting what I am hearing and tend to learn much quicker if there is some form of six string tablature that I can copy. I often apply notation to software such as Sibelius or Muse Score 4 as its relatively straight forward copying it to tablature. However I do understand that in your own case this may be too time consuming. I already have the chords and lyrics to 'Why Worry' but I would love to be able to play it like you do in this video. Anyway it was worth asking. Cheers, Tony.
Hi Phil. Just a quick question. Do you have Patreon or similar? Of all the channels on UA-cam, I think your method of teaching the 'MK' sound is most worthwhile contributing too? Well done.
Ah, thanks Robin. That's very kind of you. I don't have Patreon at the moment, but given your kind comment, I think it would be worth investigating - I'll have a little look. Thanks again - made my day!
I realize it may not be your intention Phil, but there are so many, let’s say, not so great channels ‘monetizing’, that to me the fact you don’t is a bit unfair. This is coming from a displaced Yorkshireman (so spending money goes against the grain somewhat) BUT I am also a die hard MK and Dire Straits fan. The effort you put in has answered some conundrums that my self taught ear never got, and so am sure I am not the only one. That is worth paying some respect for, hence my question/suggestion. I very much enjoy your lessons/style and accuracy (even down to admitting getting a note wrong!!!!). Keep it up and I, and many others will keep watching and learning. Cheerio Robin
Hi Phil. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply - my bad. The tuning on both guitars is standard e to e tuning. Hope that helps. Shout if you need anything else. 👍👍

It’s in E

Key is D, tuning is EADGBE
