probably because it's higher pitched than Marina's

It's like guaranteed because this is the final boss theme just like The Inkantation, and it already is a Turf War match theme with Ebb and Flow as Now or Never

That song is one that's been in the game since launch. As someone who has played Splatoon 2 a LOT, changing the music to that familiar tune nearly made me cry when I first heard it. Nintendo did an amazing job. (and so did this remixer!)

Octo Expansion (and the rest of Splatoon 2) is seriously one of my favorite games of all time. I'm super stubborn with my favorite games, too, but Octo Expansion left a smile on me the whole way through. In part helped to the AMAZING soundtrack! The entire finale's music was spectacular, but so were the main level themes. I love the 8-ball levels in part due to how good the music in them were.

Disclaimer: The music is still freaking amazing, even in 8-bit. The person remixing fly octo fly into 8-bit is really good at their job.

Loeder specifically stays within the limits of the NES though (only three "notes" playing at a time), whereas this didn't (I've seen up to seven at one point!)

While this is not in the limits of the NES it's still within the limits of the Famicom, if the cartridge has the VRC6 expansion chip coming with it at least. Castlevania 3 is most known for making use of this chip and it's a popular choice in the famitracker/chiptune community too (you might've heard it being used in shovel knight's music). Not only that but you can technically put the song on an actual cartridge as you can use famitracker to export the module as a file playable on an nes.

It's interesting how you and Lumena-tan both did chiptunes for Fly Octo Fly, but the different instrumentation rendering choices made make both versions sound quite different.
