  • In 1770, while in the American colonies, the great evangelist George Whitefield died suddenly. A funeral service was held in England and the sermon that day was preached by Whitefield's great friend, John Wesley.
After a biographical sketch of Whitefield's life, including details of his remarkable ministry during America's "Great Awakening", Wesley then reads from newspaper reports on Whitefield's death, written with glowing praise that would be hard to find in any similar publication today.
Ever the evangelist, Wesley brilliantly uses his concluding remarks about Whitefield to deliver the Gospel to his hearers and exhorts them to love each other with sincerity.
This sermon was preached on Sunday November 18, 1770, in Tottenham Court Road, London.
