  • This video just randomly deleted itself... So this is a re-upload. Anyways here is my second video in my series of Dead Malls of Texas! Sorry for such a huge gap between this one and my last one (Valley View) completely forgot about Collin Creek and didn't expect it to be as dead as it was! If you know of any dead malls in the DFW area or even in neighboring states please let me know so I can film them! Please check out my other Urban exploration videos!

I remember when it was just a huge field. We used to to live across the street in what was then called Creekwood Apts. Nice apts back then, now it’s a dump. I started working at Luby’s in the mall in 1983 when I was 18.

i was in this mall on opening day 1981. i was 15. hastings records and camelot music were my favorite stores, bought many many records there. my first girlfriend and i walked for hours in this mall, would run into friends all the time. im truly sad to see how its changed...

The "Village of Shops" of which you spoke was really on the lower level, below the food-court. The Food Court has always been in the upper-level central point of the mall where it is now.
The "Village" on the lower level was reachable from the food-court directly via the elevator on the opposite side of the the dining area or from the stairway next to the anchor space (formerly Dillard's).

This is so sad. I remember when they broke ground to build CCM in 1979. The first store to open was Sanger Harris over on the SW "corner" with the mosaic decorative on the outside. I think it opened in 1981. Lots of happy memories there. Malls for us high school aged kids weren't about shopping, per Dr, it was about the socializing. This was pre- Facebook, internet, cellphone...neck , we didn't even have computers!
Yes! There was a river walk! There was a river that connected the fountains. The main place we hung out was at the river walk under the food court, which was on the upper level. You could get to it by escalators or an elevator, or stairs.
I actually had a job at Germans, they sold leather jackets and stuff like that. It was upstairs . If you were walking towards the food court , before you got to the escalators, Bermans would be on the left , about your 8 o'clock position. In not sure but it looks like that Zales at 6:39 is almost directly below where Bermans was. No! I couldn't see the name clearly , "Charlette Russe?", THAT was directly below where Bermans was, but the Charlotte Russe wasn't there then, something else was.
Man, back in the 80s this mall was always packed! We haunted this mall, Richardson Square Mall, Valley View Mall, and Prestomwood Mall!

Man, Collin Creek is so iconic for me, especially that entrance you can see at 19:20. My mom took me when she went shopping there so many times when I was a kid. My first pair of glasses was from that LensCrafters near the Sears, and I remember seeing that mini golf course every time I came in through that entrance once a year for an updated glasses prescription. I think we still got clothes from either the Sears or Dillard until a few years ago. Really sad for me personally that it’s nearly all gone now, but I guess it really was inevitable.

I would also like to confirm that there are redevelopment plans in place for the mall and surrounding area; they're not unlike what's happening to valley view but with 100% less demolition. The mall is to stick around for the foreseeable future.

  • @codyprine1140

Yes, the mall did have a large "Creek" flowing throughout the mall, From the middle section of the mall was a large two-tier waterfall which connected to the elevator all the way through to Dillards. It also had smaller areas of water as well throughout the mall. Basically everywhere a seating area is, there use to be a "creek" there.

While not a dead mall, this one is certainly on life support. You may have noticed what I call "corridors of doom" - hallways that seem to be off the main footpath of the mall, usually leading into a closed anchor store's entrance.
You may want to check out some of the malls that sprouted up on the I35 corridor for other places that are moving along in their decline. Vista Ridge and Golden Triangle Mall come to mind. Irving Mall has hit some skids as well, with the only original anchor left being Sears, with a Burlington Coat Factory having replaced the JCPenney that left years ago. It appears to be trying to reinvent itself as an 'urban' mall now, with various ff-brand and ethnic-themed stores taking over from the national brands hat were there when the mall opened in the mid 70s.

Honestly? I like it. I've lived in Plano all my life and it's part of history. Yes, it's considered "bad" for some of us but for me it's just another part of our history. I went a few days ago and there were alot of people. It's definitely not the best but if you don't have time to go anywhere else, it's a good place.

Another dead mall that I have a connection to.
I used to work at an apartment complex right across the street. I went into this mall not more than five times, but used to go to many of the restaurants/bars on its periphery. The first book I ever bought on the Internet was at a bookstore attached to this mall.
    Sad.

I helped open the Vans store in 2006 or 2007 & it was already a fairly dead mall then. It had a distinct ammonia smell. Many closed stores and I think at least one closed anchor. The 2010 footage actually looks more populated than I saw it when I was helping the store open.

there are so many people in the Plano/Collin County area it is sad this mall is taking a dive. DFW WAY overbuilt on their malls and shopping so now people want the "newest".
With this location in Plano the mall should really be a solid performer still. And the design inside is quite nice. I remember going to this mall in the late 1990s when I was driving through. I have lived in McKinney since 2006 and this was the mall to go to then but not so much now!!!

I grew up about a mile and a half from the mall. I spent a ton of time there in the 80s and 90s. My mom used to drop me off at the daycare center that was in the creekwalk area in the early-to-mid 80s. After I outgrew that (or it closed), I'd go hang out at the Waldenbooks or the B. Dalton or the Babbage's next to Dillard's (yes, I was a nerd). The first time I ate Chick-Fil-A was in the food court. Did driver's ed at Sears in the early 90s. I don't think I've been back to the mall in 20 years. I'm pretty sure the food court had a McDonald's last time I was there.

    • @Brix2626
      @Brix2626 6 років тому +1

The daycare center you mentioned....I have a very vague memory of it. It was called 'Kalamazoo' and was located just outside of JC Penny as you entered the Village Walk. There was a fake tree with a face on its trunk as soon as you walked into the daycare. Does any of that ring a bell by any chance?

Don’t have any pics but I grew up in Plano in the late 80’s-90’s and yes it is true the mall used to have a much more extensive “water garden” I guess you could call it. Little creeks and fountains all connected. They removed them for whatever reason and just had a few fountains here and there afterwards. Not sure why they did it, the more expansive water works were much cooler.

This mall is Dying, while not dead yet, it is in a sad state. I go here every week to walk since it is fairly dead and quiet, and since this video was shot, several more stores have closed or are closing. The employees of stores look bored and literally are doing nothing. Spencers is also closing down and selling things at 50% off, including the store fixtures. During the day even, this mall is on its last legs, the word is it will be likely torn down and made into a mixed use type of facility. This mall is in a prime area with other shopping already close, so something else will be used on this spot.
