As a military veteran, I think it is appropriate to share that Memorial Day is a day to remember the service members that lost their lives while serving in the military. It is a day of solace. There is nothing happy about it. I cringe when I hear people say Happy Memorial Day. I think a significant amount of people think of it as another holiday they may be off work and an opportunity for sales at a store and therefore incorrectly acknowledge the day. I understand that it is probably just another holiday for you and most people to be off work and another opportunity to get more stuff on sale but if you or any adult is going to speak about Memorial Day, I think it should be from a place of information. My husband and I both come from a military family and we were taught that yes, we observe those who have fallen but that we also honor their lives and celebrate the freedom that they fought for and that’s why people say things like Happy Memorial Day and are outside barbecuing. I think it’s more about perspective than ignorance or disrespect. Thank you for your service as well 🇺🇸
