Everytime I hear this song it takes me back to being 9 or 10 riding with my Pops in our old pickup truck to water our cattle in the early morning before sun up. The old 8track blaring with Pops singing the only part he knew “down on main street” English being our second language. My Dad was the strongest man I knew RIP Pops..
This man is a lyrical genius. He really doesn't get enough credit. Born in 1970 and grew up with him my dad playing his music in the background. How lucky was I?
🔻Song Facts: In Bob’s youth, “Seger wrote this song about his high school years in Ann Arbor, Michigan.” “The actual street Seger sings about in this song is Ann Street, which was off of Main Street in Ann Arbor. Seger recalled to the Chicago Sun-Times: "It was a club. I can’t remember the name of the club, but the band that played there all the time was called Washboard Willie. They were a Delta and Chicago blues band. Girls would dance in the window. They were a black band, and they were very good. That’s where I would go but I was too young to get in. It wasn’t in a great part of town but college students loved to go there."
Bob Seger is a great rock singer, songwriter & musician known for his raspy powerful voice. He wrote & recorded songs that dealt with love, women & blue-collar themes. He had so many great songs especially in the 70's-80's such as "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man", "Night Moves", "Turn The Page", "Still The Same", "Hollywood Nights", "Against The Wind", "You'll Accomp'ny Me", "Shame On The Moon", "Roll Me Away", "Like A Rock", "Shakedown", "We've Got Tonight" & "Old Time Rock & Roll".
The guitar in this song feels like the sadness of the young man who never quite got up the courage to talk to the girl. All he could do was watch her walk on past. Such a good song, part of the soundtrack of my teenage years.
Marie, there was a spot in the song that Asia and BJ flagged out as great guitar work. Those were actually saxophone licks, played by the incomparable Alto Reed. R.I.P.
Bob was the last concert I saw as well. At The forum in LA. It was a bucket list concert for me and yeah he's what pushing his upper 70s now but he and his band were incredible.
"Against The Wind" is another great Bob Seger song. BJ will probably recognize it since it was one of the songs playing when Forest was on his long distance run.
That guitar adds a wistful element. It's like a bittersweet memory, maybe full of some regret and even some hope of finding that feeling again. Bob sure knows how to spin a tale.
❤️🔥 There’s SO MANY Seger songs that will knock your socks off!! The ‘Against the Wind’ and ‘Night Moves’ albums are my faves. Y’all need to check out his song, “Her Strut”. ❤️🔥 Much love to ya, Asia & BJ ☮️💟
Hearing this song tonight took me right back too high school with the realization how important this man's music was in my high school and, college days. Thank you both for that.
The studio musicians on this track were known as The Muscle Shoals rthymn section. Legendary dudes who played on more r&b and rock hits than you can imagine.
Bob Seger is a treasure. His music and lyrics are amazing. Great storyteller. Please check out “Against the Wind”. It’s a beautiful song with a fantastic piano/guitar solo in the middle. Anything by this man is wonderful! 🌺✌️
Perfect example of a " haunting " song. It reaches deep into your soul and wells up into your memories and eyes. This song always takes me back to a bowling alley in 70's New Orleans. My friends and I were on a bowling team. This song was a hit, and the alley played it a lot. Along with " Easy " by The Commodores. Two slow songs that got this rocker engaging the melody. I wasn't the only one, I'm sure. Y'all rock. Asia - your vocal renditions of the songs are cool. You have a killer falsetto. Keep on keepin' on, you two. Your videos are a part of my daily ritual. And I know this is true for lots of other Reaction Videos channels viewers.
Bob Seger was on a short list of artists known for the quality of their live shows, and his 1981 album, Nine Tonight, is a concert recording. This song is also on that album and alto sax plays that wailing guitar part that repeats throughout. The solo is still played on electric guitar, but is harder and grimier. Excellent live versions of all his hits, such as "Her Strut," if you haven't heard that one.
Bob Seger writes poetry and delivers them though powerful lyrics and beautiful music. Hes in the music writers hall of fame for good reason. His roots were as great guitarist and piano player. He combines it all together to make some of the most beautiful ballads and bangers that make you dance! If you've listened to "Live Bullett" ...you know I'm talking about!
That iconic guitar riff is played by the great (and sadly forgotten) Pete Carr of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, which backs up Seger on this track. Carr played in The Hourglass with Duane and Gregg Allman before the Allman Brothers were formed.
That weeping lead guitar isn't merely a sad sound; it is the sound of sadness. It is sadness, in a soulful, plaintive remembrance. The lyrics and the music are perfectly suited to each other.
I don't comment much on these channels, but Bob Seger touches me. He was the singer that I first started listening too. He was on my AM radio, the Big 8, CKLW out of Detroit/Windsor in the mid 60's... He had many hits and his ballads are some of the best ever. Ole Time Rock and Roll, Turn the Page and many others. My favorite of all time.
Bob Seger is one of my favorite rock storytellers. A “must have” in every collection in the 70s & 80s 👍 Some of my favorites are Against the Wind, Fire Lake, Night Moves, Turn the Page, Main Street, Horizontal Bop….he’s just sooo good 😊
The best music ever I wish would be the same wow just the Instrumental part of Bob Seger’s music on every album he’s the best of the best back when I remember that’s what I fell in love with growing up my mothers music when she used to play it and Bob Seger was always my favorite!
I grew up with the greatest music. It’s still being played today. Bob Seger killed it then and still has that wonderful voice and he’s like me, he’s pushing 80 yrs old.
These old songs bring me back to being a kid in the 70s and my mom took us everywhere. To the bars and friend's parties and we heard all these songs. Today's music doesn't give those same memories.
Another record i had as a kid. I used to have a portable record player that looked like a tweed suitcase. There was a built in 6x9 speaker on each end that could detach and you could stretch them around the room for surround sound. Had every genre of music in my box. This was before we got boom boxes. Fun times.
My friend's and I saw Seger and the Silver Bullet Band in 1986 at Madison Square Garden. The concert was SO FANTASIC, we scalped the tickets and saw them again two days later at Brendan Byrne Arena, East Rutherford, NJ.
We went to see him live just last year and he opened with this. Instantly traveled back in time 40 years to high school. The entire show was great for all us old timers that could just let it wash over us. We were THE luckiest generation growing up in the 60s and 70s to have been listening to the greatest music ever. Such an amazing time to be alive
I simply love the albums Bob Seger did with the Swampers... The Swampers are responsible for more great music than most people know. Thank you for doing this one. Haven’t seen other reactors do this one, but not u guys! Ur great! My fav Seger song. Love the guitar! Thank you peace ✌️
Thank you for doing a reaction to this - my favorite Bob Seger song! And that's saying something since he has so many great ones. I love the energy you all have and thoroughly enjoy your reactions. Thanks again.
As deep as his music was this was my favorite. I finally got to see him on his Final Tour and it was 3 1/2 hours of AWESOME😎 He had the biggest bass saxophone I've ever seen😲 This is what music sounded like before everything turned into plastic.
Saw Bob Seger open for KISS with Ted Nugent at Anaheim Stadium in the 70’s. Great concert and Bob Seger killed it with his vocal story-telling!! His song Old Time Rock n Roll made Tom Cruise a mega star in the pop classic film Risky Business 🍿
IMO, the GOAT… Never made a bad record.. Appreciate the masters of their craft. Happy to have grown up with it. Happy to still be here to continue to love Bob.. 🎵🎵
I was wondering when you would get around to this song. A fantastic singer, songwriter, entertainer, solid kickass band and decades of hits = A trip to be immortalized in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
This is my favorite Seger song. He has many. Being a guitar player all my life I immediately recognized that the guitar is played very lyrically. The perfect example of the instruments serving the song. Many of the very top guitar players in history knew how to serve the song with tone and feel. Great job ! Try the Seger song Feel Like a Number
Saw Bob Seger and tuned in ASAP. Love this singer/songwriter. Please keep the Seger songs comin' HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS next?? HER STRUT?? SHAME ON THE MOON?? Don't think u can possibly gone wrong
Growing up in Michigan. As Americans all of our lives were made better because God blessed us with Bob Segar. Man I want to go back, I believe that’s where Heaven is!
Saw him live twice in NY City at MSG over 30 years ago. He pumped out pure energy NON STOP! Nearly 3 hours of one great song after another. He's the real deal and his Silver Bullet Band was stellar!! I have to say this guy is right up there with all the great ones ,he was also even better live than I expected. I don't know why or how I underestimated his talent considering I wore out his live bullet band album back as a kid in the 70s! What on earth was I thinking???!! Won't happen again Bob!!! You rock brother!
I've tried to play this on guitar for over 30 years. The tuning is a not set at a standard pitch. It required me to tune to this song. IMO, they slowed the tape down when they mixed the master.
This song hits home with me. I grew up on Main Street in a small New Jersey town that I won't name. But every time I hear this song, I'm back down on Main Street. And I had many, many good times on Main Street.
My absolute favorite Seger song thank you so much for doing this one. Yeah he was obsess with a dancer, but when he says he’d stand outside at closing time just to watch her walk on past, as she made her way alone down that empty street… seems like he was looking out for her. I always liked that.
Such a beautifully haunting, and wistful guitar line - coupled with Seger's soulful grit. It's easy for me to imagine myself as a young man in the same situation who saw that beautiful girl he never got the courage up to talk to.
In 1964 or 65 I lived in Saginaw Michigan. We had a teenage nightclub called Daniels Den. Bob used to play there and he came up from Detroit. He had an old beat up car that when he was leaving we used to give him a push to get it started and send him home to Detroit. Memories. RMR
My generation was so lucky. We grew up with the greatest music.
so true and we took it for granted ...
💥💥💥👍😎

@@salmuscles awww,,,Dude. I was THERE. 💥💥💥😎
I totally relate to that.
Pete Carr from the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section on lead guitar here. You’re right the lead guitar and the vocals make this song.

yup! I was born in Detroit and Bob Seger was on the radio all the time in the 70’s.
Old Ann Streer is gone, all the grit has been removed and all of AA2 is upscale.
there aint no more ruff spots in Ann Arbor anymore. You gotta be a go zllion air to live there 😊😊
❤❤❤ I’ve listened to this song while on Ann Street!

These guitar solos go deep into my soul. As well as Bob's soaring vocals.

Bob Seger is unique in his ability to pull together storytelling, singing, and musical composition and performance.
Bob truly paid his dues playing in bars or any gig. Thankfully someone found him and put him on the map - older than others.
I just LOVE YOU GUYS your authenticity, and open minded souls, and more! Keep on keepin on
