    The general advice would be that it’s fine to connect speakers with a higher impedance to an amplifier capable of operating with a lower impedance, but what you shouldn’t do is connect speakers with a lower impedance (say, 4 ohms) to an amplifier with a higher minimum impendence (10 ohms, for example). Today many amplifiers can handle a range of ohm ratings usually between 6 to 16 ohms.

Can we connect this 6 ohms speaker to the power amp which rated as 4 ohms@2300 w per channel ? Will it blow up the power amp ? Or power amp will only delivery certain % of power to drive this 6 ohms speaker only ? Kindly advice . Appreciated to ur kind help n assistant . Wish U hv a great day ahead

      @@Kpaceguy SO I think I have grasped this concept, but not sure... my speakers are imp = 7ohms +/-3ohms, and the manual states receiver should = 40-160watts. My receiver says Front A and B : 8ohms minimum @ 95watts x 7 into 8ohms. So if I have 7 channels, I will get 8ohms and 95 watts per channel? I think its an okay match b/c the receiver with 7 channels is 95 watts, which is between speakers' 40-160 watts, receiver is 8ohms which is more ohms (not as powerful) but still close to the base of the receiver at 7ohms +/-3. This video is the first I’ve seen that made me understand this topic! So if I’ve got a 3 way active setup with speakers rated for 8 ohms being powered by a 6 channel amp rated for 4 ohms, the speakers won’t be getting the full power from the amp?

    • @Kpaceguy
      @Kpaceguy  Рік тому +1

      Correct. Which may be fine as long as it's 8 ohm rating matches your 8 ohm speakers. Say your 8 ohm speaker is rated at 150 Watts and the amp does 150 Watts at 8 ohms and 300 Watts at 4 ohms, it's still giving the correct power to your speakers

    The amplifiers in the world today are fairly wonderful beast and players of such beasts in many levels. An amplifier is just what it is. It's amplifiers something in this case it is an electrical current that is transferred into sound. Amplifiers out there these days are magnificent to the point that they are rated down to so if an amplifier says it's 1 ohm rating is that's what it is you can put a 4-ohm speaker on a 1 ohm speaker amplifier, you can put a multiplicity of 4 ohm speakers onto a 1 ohm amplifier and in fact wire them correctly to get 1 ohm. The sky's the limit. The Ohms on the amplifier must be less then the value of what is on the speaker.

    My speakers are 6 ohms at the maximum power handling is 300 watts less clipping. I am using 400 watts rms. These speakers are very efficient which could be used easily with 100 watts rms. Danger with any loud speakers is don't over drive the amp into the clipping mode which harms both components. Better off with extra power than less power. JBL use to put in the owners manuals with the speakers, danger low power! So true!

    • @Kpaceguy
      @Kpaceguy  Рік тому

      lower is fine but if its way too low you'll risk blowing the speaker very easily. You want to be within 100-150 watts or so either direction if possible. Not always possible so in that case just be careful.

    There was a time (1970's/80's) when most amps (receivers, integrated and power) easily drove speakers rated from 4 ohms on up. The amp switched internally between 4 and 8 ohm impedances. Even lowly 15wpc receivers could drive 4 ohm loads. Most amps were rated at more power into 4 than 8 ohms. The sticky wicket is that speaker impedance varies with frequency and speakers are generally labeled 8 or 4 ohm "nominal" impedance. Still though, it's not uncommon for 8 ohm speakers to dip to 5 ohms at some frequencies. One caveat, never connect pairs of 4 ohm speakers in parallel to a transistor amp as this will require 2 ohms. Few amps can provide this. Interesting video, lucidly explained in your own inimitable way.

    If 4 Ω speakers requires more power from an amplifier, then how is it that an amplifier produces more watts when they’re set to a lower impedance?

      yeah his result is correct but his reasoning is wrong. see the speaker as a garden hose where water is flowing through. voltage is the pressure of the water and impedance is if you pinch the hose with your fingers. if you pinch it more (8 vs 4). less water will flow. at 0 ohms all water will flow without impedance. so thats when the amp has too pump out most watts/power. the pressure/voltage always stays the same.

    Hello! I loved the explanation but I wanna see if I got it right; My marshall MG CX 101 (a 100 watts guitar amp) runs a 4 ohm 12" speaker. Could I put an 8 ohm 12" speaker there instead without frying my amp? I ain't playing much live, so I wouldn't put it to the max.

    Finally great video.. Still I have a question to ask, my home cinema is very budget, I bought all staff cheap ( looking for good deals locally) my amp is Yamaha RX -V673 ( 7.1 - 6 & 8 ohms) I connected all 5 pioneer S-11 150 W RMS 6ohm speakers + active subwoofer. I was able to get another set of pioneer S-11+ active subwoofer. My plan is to add two more channels (7.1) and second subwoofer for extra coverage 7.2. What if I would like to use spare speakers (x3) .I mean connect two speaker per channel ( let's say front, left right would be double up) Having all that sound come from different angles is the ideal experience but how my amplifier will handled this? I'm not pushing to high volume. How I should connect this speakers parallel or series? I'm lucky I get amplifier for 10£, one set of pioneer 20£, second set 30£ ;) Total 60£ I love sound from Netflix/ Disney with this home theatre. I connected all with vandamme cable's (free -lucky me) would be great to read your opinion. Thank you

      No. You cannot combine speakers to one amplifier, it lowers the impedance and will cause big issues. You take two 6 ohm speakers and put them together and it becomes 3 ohms

    hey i have a t.amp E-1200 that has 800wrms at 8ohm and 1200w at 4ohm i plan on running behringer vp1800s that run at 400w rms at 8ohm and 1600wpeak.
    how do i set the impedance to 8ohm on the amp ?
    what shoud be the max power i run these subs at?
    how do i know at what impedance the amp is at?

      The amp knows what to do based off the speaker you connect to it. You don't need to do anything
