For this Tuff Tray activity we used:
Coloured water
Jug of water
Plastic magnetic letters
Pom Poms
Plastic insects
Different sized containers
Balloons
Plastic egg
Ice cube tray
Plastic glove
Funnel
Pipette
Salt
Spoon
📖 Set up
1. Collect and gather the resources
2. Name and talk about the items, encourage descriptive vocabulary.
3. Place the pom poms/magnetic letters or plastic objects inside the container/balloon/plastic egg.
4. Fill with water.
5. Place the balloon/egg/containers into the freezer overnight.
🧒🏻 Time to play!
1. Explore- the properties of ice, pour salt and coloured water over the ice.
2. Senses- listen to the sound as the salt melts the ice and creates channels.
3. Owe and wonder - observe the ice melting.
4. Investigate-how to free the items inside the ice orbs.
5. Language development-communicate what is being experienced.
6. Discover - how the ice feels and looks.
7. Discuss and question - what is occurring.
👨‍👧‍👦Ideas to extended and continue the play: Frozen jelly and child friendly hammers.
