I appreciate you sooo much! I'm about to purchase my first diesel (06 F350 dually). I have been watching hours of videos to learn all I can. This video is by far the best I have come across for beginners like me. I now know the exact and important questions to ask my diesel mechanic.💪💪
I hope you know how to check for warped heads, blown gaskets, coolant puking, and whether or not it’s studded.
Been waiting for one of these finally somebody does it thanks brotha keep it up!
Awesome video man, your UA-cam skills improve every time I watch you. Thanks for taking my video suggestion.
Love the channel, brother. Tastefully sorted 6.0, amazing sounds, and how-to's. Keep it going for the 6.0 enthusiast, we need a solid 6.0 channel. I own a 2004 E-350 6.0 van and a 2005 F-250 extended cab short bed FX4. Obviously, I like the 6.0 and realize the true value of these trucks.
Andrew B Thank you for the kind words! Feel free to send the channel to your friends as well. I’m going to try and show more how to videos etc of modifications to these trucks.
I have a very nice 2006 Ford F-350 Lariat CC 6.0L 4WD SRW truck. See my other post for details.
diesel tech rons channel will help you fix and find almost any issue you have. Downside is no new content as he passed a few yrs ago
Awesome channel man, loving the videos, just got myself an 03 60 good shape trying to make it as reliable as possible
Very very helpful video just picked up a 07 6.0 with 83k miles looking to do some mods nothing crazy due to obvious reasons but this video made it so much easier on which direction to go
Best video on 6.0 mods hands down man.
I have turned 271,000 miles today on my daily driver. Deleted, exhaust 4” sinister diesel oil cooler and arp studs. So far. Had the sump pump from the tank, its gone because it failed. Went back to my stock ford fuel pump. Great Chanel. Thanks for making the vids bud
I think these videos are awesome especially for a new channel, keep up the great content man
Solid recommendations right here amigo. Love your videos man!!
this is really helpful. thank you! looking forward to more content from you.
Extremely good advice. Great info to help people not be so scared about 6.0’s. They really don’t seem as bad as so many people make them out to be.
Everyone wants a 7.3 because "they'll last forever" no a 6.0 will last forever once it's bulletproof
Excellent video brother! Previously owning a 2007 6.0 all them points you mentioned are extremely accurate! Keep it up man!
only thing is, he needs a top 20 list of mods to do! great trucks but ya that oil cooler and egr cooler are made to break. those should be in the top 2. that being said i learnt a few things with this video too. proud 6.0 owner. the yare costly though. but cheap to buy on a private sale!
Wow great video. Thank u. I just purchased a 2004 F350 6.0. With 203,000 miles. Going to def get started with all these upgrades
One of the best honest videos. Love it!
Great video man! Just subbed. I recently picked up an 05 f250 king with 80k miles. One owner and am excited to start modding it the right way after this video
I just picked up an 03 King ranch with 217k😆 it runs amazing so far! Driven it about 150miles
@@lovemysisterojl I’m getting an 06 f250 with 200k on it is it a good buy?
@@antoniocoleman8380 Depends on literally hundreds of factors. I bought my ‘05 with 212k on it for $16,000. Had to “re-bulletproof” it at 230k miles. Cost me $8,000. Just learn as much as you can and know what to look for… coolant puking, oil leaking, ARP studs, body mounts, glow plugs, etc etc etc
New subscriber here bud and so far it’s a great channel! Keep it up.
love the channel man, keep it up 👍🏻🙌🏻
Good stuff my man, you just got 1 more sub. I’m on my 3rd 6.0 now in about 4 years, just bought the bone stock grandpa truck I’ve been looking for a few months ago. It’s an 06 f250 king ranch in true blue. Not in perfect condition but only had 96k miles on it when I bought it, excited to build this truck from scratch. My first one already had some mods on it and 175k miles when I bought it. Still put a lot of money into it in the 3.5 years I owned it and it was a blast to drive. It was an 06’ xlt zf6 truck. But man the king ranch is so much nicer lol currently pulling my IPR out to chase down a no start issue.
Dalton Dees So depending on what your your truck is 05-07 typically don’t have weak HPOP they are either good or bad which in my opinion makes it easier to trouble shoot. 03-04.5 trucks are more of a common “weak” HPOP issue. I would say if you’re 05+ you’re starting in the correct spot pulling the IPR however don’t be surprised if you need a pump because like I said, typically they are good or their not.
Tyler’s Diesel Stop No tears in IPR screen, a little dirty so I cleaned it and put back together still cranking and not starting. Getting fuel pressure so I’m certain it’s an oil pressure issue but I lack the tools to pressure test anything so I called a trusted powerstroke mechanic close to me to come pick it up Monday.
Good stuff to know thanks man. I am a first time 6.0 powerstroke owner and am needing knowledge on this thing.
Biggest thing that will determine if you will love or hate your 6.0 is your attitude going into buying it if u expect u won't have to spend anything on it and your just going to drive it your going to hate it if your expecting your going to spend money on it you will love it
Tyler, thanks for your post. I have 05 350 Duelly. Bought new. Has 57,000 miles as I write this. Not a truck guy, but love it. Bone stock. Had the oil cooler replaced with oem with egr delete. That’s it. I tow boat and race car. Sits most of time. Got a bad wobble or shake with the brakes....or something. I think they stick. And the headlights suck ass. Wish I could drop it off with you for the remaining top 9 list. Ha!
Thanks! Good info. Just did up pipe/Ypipe upgrade! XDP pipe fit perfect!
First Time Viewer! Great Channel...excellent video...straight talk, easy to understand, etc. I own and "thinking about selling" a 2006 Ford F-350 Lariat CC 6.0L 4WD SRW - EXCELLENT condition...very well maintained - Schaeffer's oil, Caterpillar EC-1 rated ELC coolant -----> no silicates, Schaeffer's ATF for transmission & transfer case, Torco gear oil for the differentials, etc., very little interior wear, new floor mats, new - just purchased - headlights, tail lights, fog lights, cab roof marker lights - 113,500 miles...with ALL Bullet Proof Diesel aftermarket parts...remote oil filter, engine oil cooler (oil to air), free flowing EGR cooler, CNC machined from aluminum billet ----> FICM housing, water pump housing & impeller, etc; BTS (Brian's Truck Shop) transmission ---> Stallion Torque Converter, clutches, etc. (drive normal - shifts like butter...get on it - shifts fast, quick and hard); ARP head studs; SCT tuner; Aluminum Radiator, MBRP 4 inch exhaust.....and last but not least PacBrake PRXB Exhaust Brake wired to Upfitter Switch # 1...great for towing! Running stock Garrett GT3782VA turbo and stock fuel injectors. Have Garrett PowerMax GT3788VA turbo. Truck chassis, frame, axles, driveshafts, etc. all been primer once, painted twice...third coat of paint in a few days. If I decide to sell...truck is in Missouri and will be listed on Cargurus and or eBay in a week or two.
New too 6.0 love them got my first one 04 standard cab short bed. Yes frame cut an done flawlessly other then that bone stock. Subscribed really enjoyed this video
Hey Tyler. I’m a longtime 6.0 owner and agree with all your tips, but have had different experiences with a couple. On the brakes have you tried upgrading to the PMF brake lines. It makes a night and day difference. I run 40s and my stopping power is excellent on a well maintained stock brake system.
Trevor makes some of the best stuff in the industry! I sincerely apologize for such a late response. I’ve missed a lot of comments unfortunately but I appreciate the watch and comment!
I just put an sct gtx with gearhead srl tune in my 6.0...the difference is insane.
just got my running for the first time, thanks for the Suggestions 👍🏾
doing a 6.4 starter swop is good to do as well. also get the 6.4 trans pan and filter.
great video! keep them coming
Awesome video man .....thanks for all the information!
Billy Burke Anytime! It may not be what everyone wants to see but I might start a video series to get HP goals started etc.
Tyler’s Diesel Stop You should, that’s something I’d be interested in seeing
Hey man if you could make a video explaining how a regulated return works that would be sweet
how does it need explanation? if you regulate the fuel pressure after the end of the fuel rail it ensures every injector has the same pressure of fuel preventing short filling and injector damage. from factory the regulator is before the fuel rail and causes turbulence at the end of the rail making bubbles in the fuel
Paul Jensen maybe it needs an explanation because I don’t know the explanation🤔. Just a thought tho
This is a solid list. It's not a list that sells hyped up garbage. Maintenance and brakes being the two main items. But the entire list is savvy.
If you want custom tunes, don’t get Blessed Performance, or Gearhead. Go for ID Speed Shop (formerly Innovative Diesel) If you want to tow, I'd get an 03 turbo and a manual exhaust brake (but only if you have a ZF6, a manual exhaust brake will overheat an auto tranny). PMF braided brake lines, and EBC rotors and pads are an awesome upgrade for towing as well. Also a Bluetop steering gear, and PSC ram assist.
Great list! Appreciate it!
I’m starting to build up my truck. Got the ScT Livewire TS+ and a 4” exhaust already. Next Is the EGR delete then all of this lol
Update
Power max turbo stage 1
Coolant filtration
Turbo charge pipes
Got rid of the butterfly valve for a straight intake
Mishimoto radiator
Hay Tyler love the info on these trucks I have a 04 F250 lariat FX4 Crew Cab that I love and am buying another next year that needs the motor pulled and rebuilt could you give me some suggestions on what I should replace while I have the motor out or things that I should update thanks Man and just so you know I drive my truck daily it's my go to love driving it and your videos have helped me get to know my truck better.
This was really helpful I'm about to buy a 6.0
the blue spring fuel upgrade made a big difference for mine But I got shallow pockets .
these vids make me miss my 6.0.
Could you go into detail about the F450/F550 brake upgrade? There is only so much info on the old forums about it.
You need: knuckles, calipers, rotors, shields, and hub/bearing assemblies. Can be expensive best to find a junkyarded truck
I am interested in doing this mod. If you could provide info for converting 2006 f250 that would be great.
Great chanel Tyler, no need to say more.
Great Video with some very solid advise. I am glad you were keeping the vehicle stock before doing upgrades as many personnel go straight to the cub stuff and suffer in the end. I am in Southern California and would love to find a great mechanic if you know of one for my 6.0.
Check out William over at Boosted Built. He is a good friend of mine and doesn’t cut corners at all.
Cuz....finally a legit blue collar 6.0 list
Just found your channel and subbed! 4 videos in where your at it’s awesome! Working on my channel too, keep it up!
Great video , looking forward to more🤟🏼
I agree with everything except number nine, I hate them blutarded LED lights. But I live and work at night si what do I know , now if they come out with Amber LEDs I’d be all over it. Otherwise great vid. Spot on . Love my 04- 6.0. Bought it brand new. I tow haul you name it . Good job !
I just replaced turn lights, parking lights and roof top clearance lights with amber led lights and head lights (white) and all look and work great.
I'd like to do the F450/F550 brake conversion on my 2006 F250 4x4 single wheel short bed truck. Do I need special rotors and caliper mounting bracket ? or do i have to convert to 10 lug ?
Great video. I would like to know your opinion of the S&B intake over the ole stock Donaldson filtration.
Are you running dual shocks on each side up front?
My truck 6.0 just got has the bracket for dual shocks but previous owner couldn't afford to replace them with name brand ones so he went a cheap route. However those now need to be replaced. I've been really looking into those fox shocks. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Awesome vids bro👍👍
Just recently bought a 2005 king ranch 6.0 with all listed mods but the lift pump / RR... just subscribed and looking forward to future content... Curious to know your opinion on oil / coolant bypass filtration and sound deadening. These are potential mods I’m considering in the near future.
John V. personally I don’t have them on my trucks but I have had them previously! I’ve never messed with the oil bypass but the coolant filters are always helpful, they aid in keeping your oil cooler clog free.
Google -----> Bullet Proof Diesel...in Arizona. They have numerous upgrades for the Ford Super Duty 6.0L trucks...have all their parts on my 2006 F-350 CC 4WD SRW. DieselSite is another great aftermarket supplier...have their Aramid Boots.
Man I know this has been a minute, but you have a solid source/info on that 450 brake swap? I'm already running 20's and I'd like to get some solid breaking for towing up and down the mountains!
I absolutely love my 6.0. I have a 05 250 4x4 lariat. I had major issues at 150k and had to make a decision. I couldn't talk myself into buying a new truck. I put 13k in bulletproofing my motor and added a stage 1 turbo with 4 inch exhaust from turbo back. My mileage increased and will pull a house. PSP Diesel in south Houston tx did my motor work and I swear bye them. My Ford never ran better.
I’m in HTX LOOKING TO FIND GOOD MECHANIC FOR MINE AS WELL ? We’re the prices super crazy?!?
once you do studs and a big turbo you're done and heads will never lift
Yooo how is your ford running I’d like to send my engine to any good mechanic that has reputation of not reprint off
@guillermohernandezjr9906 doing great, keeping the maintenance up and it don't let me down.
Just subbed. I just got back from looking at a truck to buy. Numerous mods on it. He showed me wire on dash that went to a edge tuner gauge device . He said it has software issue and took it out. He told me it was on the street tune. I want the the truck to pull dump trailer with. He said he would contact edge to see if they could fix. If cannot be repaired is there a way it can be put into towing tune. I don’t know anything about diesels as you can tell.
Southern CA mechanic - Desiel Tech in San Jacinto, CA. Honest folks, been going there for nearly 10 yrs. I do most of my own work, but when I can't or don't want to I go there. Great people.
04 w/ 410k miles with 06 billet proofed engine (CA version) that has 200k miles on it.
So for the big brake upgrade to 450/550 model, what parts do you need? I’m assuming calipers and rotors….what else?
Thoughts on ipr high flow coolant filter and external oil cooler?
The thing is I have an f550 as a daily and was wondering if the brakes were ok on that because you said f450 or 550 work well for the smaller trucks are they too small
Hey what’s up man I was wondering if you can use or get custom tunes with running like a act live wire or like any of the screen monitors, that’s what I want for my 6.0, I rather not get the act x4 but if that’s the only way to get custom tunes we’ll then I guess that’s the route I’ll have to go but if you know differently please let me know , thanks and awesome videos man keep it up! Would like to see more vids of the truck tho!!
Jacob Cossio You can get custom tuning for any SCT device. If you need assistance feel free to message me on Instagram
For sure a good mechanic...i have see alot of trucks get fuck up for that reason.
Hey man my standard cab that I mentioned a few videos ago is in getting the dash fabricated, if you wanna see it and talk about em lmk man
My 2006 f250 xlt super duty has 308k miles with no service lights on and runs perfect
It looks good with Crome rims
I just subscribed
Could you make a video on how to put on f450/f550 brakes I have a 2005 f350 srw 6.0
Do you have to put in bigger head studs before you use these mods? I haven't got new bigger head studs for my 2005 6.0 power stroke yet.
You always need to stud these trucks if they aren’t already. “Studs” are not the same as a factory torque to yield bolt.
What’s the window of miles on a used truck you stay around. What would you consider to high.
What lift pump is the best on the early 03 6.0 fass or air dog
Hey quick question for you? Do you need to do anything special to do the f450 brake upgrade?
Cliff Wiggins The brake calipers and mount brakes. You then use the 07 F350 wide track brakes.
I just bought a 2004 green on tan xlt yesterday with 130,000 miles on it
Do you have any any more information on the f450 f550 brake swap cause I tried doing some research on it and there isn’t any clear answers out there. People are saying they needed to swap everything, knuckles brackets backing plate etc. or make custom adapter brackets, some were saying you should to swap the master cylinder as well. I really would like to do this swap on my truck but there isn’t enough clear answers or videos of other people doing this... any help is appreciated
Yeah I don't think he's correct on that one. The F450/550 has a 10 lug hub whereas the 250's and 350's have a 8 lug hub, at the very least you'd be replacing the hubs if that's a direct bolt on, but then you need to find 10 lug wheels. I just did the hubs / bearings on my truck and it was around $550 in parts, then add a new set of wheels and you're looking at a much cheaper job going with something that is actually made for the 250 / 350.
On the exhaust, should I delete the Cat, muffler, or both? What size pipe? My truck is a stock 2005, F250 2WD with 110,000 miles. I pull a 7000LB trailer. Thanks.
This is hands down the best list I have ever seen !
No offense I thought you were some hillbilly cousin of mine ... I then realized ... you are a very smart and level headed man ! ..... that is coming from a chevy guy !
P.s. 6.0 powerstroke is my favorite engine!!!
Thank you for you information it is very helpful. I just buy my 06 king ranch I subscribe to you channel I will follow you all you contents. Thanks.😅
Which r/r and lift pump do you like best?
at what point do you think a lift pump and regulated return is necessary?
Noah L As long as it’s tuned in my opinion. These trucks are very under fueled from the factory.
I have seen 6.0’s on UA-cam that have gauges on the drivers side column. Are they any good?
Are they stock or a modification?
Do you still need to replace your oil cooler for a better if you delete your EGR
i like this guy / human good guy
Do the 450/550 brakes bolt on?
are you running your tune on a stock trans? and what tune is it?
How do u feel about the bulldog gt tunner
#7
Can I use brakes from a 2008 and newer f450?
I run an '03 dually, and I wouldn't put a tuner on it (custom or otherwise) without head studs, just saying. I turn all my own wrenches too...
I'm getting an SCT GTX. You mentioned that never use a canned tune. Are GTX canned tunes go to go with? If not why? Where do you go for a good custom?
Deleted, O-ringed heads, BulletProofDiesel FICM, Mishimoto intercooler and radiator, etc. Just need a better tuner (Edge currently)
If you want custom tunes feel free to hit me up at tyler_tkodiesel@yahoo.com
I’m new to 6.0 powerstroke . With everything going on is there any turner who sells tunes .
What about H&s tunes and using bully dog for display ?
This video should help me because I'm looking at a 2007 6.0 with 306,000 miles on it
What particular gauges would you recommend getting on the Pilar?
Isspro gauges or you’re wasting money, a good quad pod setup is boost, egt, trans temp and fuel pressure.
Are the f450/f550 brakes direct bolt on?
Number 10 is the best one, you get the wrong guy and his go to answer will be head gaskets for everything. Throw ya for a loop
So much stuff can you get away with with putting too much pressure on the head gaskets (have an 06 f250 king ranch)
What about bulletproofing stuff? Head gaskets and studs, water pump etc?
You obviously want to do that but this is a “starter” list for those just getting into a truck and don’t have funds available yet to do those things.
Thinking about getting a 6.0 are they pretty reliable?
you can EGR delete since it reduces EGT's and therefore you get better valve train life - beyond that just use a big assed turbo with STUDS and they never lift when you stud them. oil cooler and you're done.
Does anyone know any good mechanics in western Washington?
My 1994.5 7.3 just started laughing in the driveway when you said 6.0 trucks were old, meanwhile my 2005 6.0 was offended
Lmao my 87 square body laughed in 30+ years old
My uncles 72 toyota laughs for over 40+ years old not to mention rolled twice and still runs
I shat myself when he said that i have 3 trucks a 72 360FE, 89 7.3, and a 94 5.8, i just got a 05 6.0
