As a native Ukrainian-Russian speaking person fully confirming this. The translation of Prigozhin is completely made up, when he was speaking surrounded by the felons he asked whether anyone knows about Wagner and if yes they have 5 mins to decide whether they want to join them and if not then just leave. Bullshit about either join or get killed is literally made up.

This seems like it must be a war crime in itself (sending convicted criminals to the front with a promise of freedom, if they live) but also a sign of Russia’s sheer desperation. Sending prisoners is only one step above “okay, it’s fine to send 14-year-olds and 60-plus year old raw recruits to the front” as a sign the invasion isn’t going well for Russia.
Even dictators only do this when things are really, really bad, as it’s kind of embarrassing (so much for that “strong” military) and likely not too popular at home (so if they live and kill enough, they get set free to roam Russia, knowing they can trade military service for any crime they like?)

despite the war in Ukraine, most of people in Europe look at america with pity. you guys have a police country, nr. 1 in crime and killings, nr1 by far at people in prisons, legal guns so you have a massacre everyday in different parts of the country. in europe to get a gun you need to pass a lot of tests. when i say gun, i mean a pistol. and the pistol is with rubber bullets. we dont have news with armed robbery or shootings, any of that. america is brainwashed with owning guns. in case of war between american people and the government, what you dont realize is that the army has drones, laser guided rockets, tanks, fighter jets, etc. its a false feeling that owning a large caliber weapon will save your ass. In a truly civilized country all weapons should be banned.

I am sorry, if I misunderstand you.
They have military training, had served, were reservists or are part of local security. They are not just simply civilians, that privately own weapons!
Most civil persons joined training camps after the beginning (and inbetween since 2014), got officially supplied with Equipment. They are schooled. It is an extra-ordinary situation. Invasion from an outer Enemy!
It is not about "trusting civilians", it is about real responsible and brave people that you can trust to stand up for the right cause! It is about mentality and spirit. You can not buy a gun in a discount market and run with your gun around in eastern europe, not like in the US where every idiot can buy a gun at wallmart. I would trust my polish neighbor 10000 times more than a texan cowboy! You stop being a civilian, if you are armed! Knowing and acknowledging that is important! For a real Soldier it is the reason to become one, to enable others the civilian life. Firearms in private hands are the very thing contradicting to that principle.
I do not wanna flame on you, and I think you did not intent to, but I must ask, don't you think that it is not a little bit counteracting your intend to show respect toward Ukraine when you insert your own us-centric narrative here? They are united against an outer threat by the ultimate cause and under official governmental command which takes it mandate serious to protect it's people. They are an Inspiration, I share that emotionally with you! Do you think about the same, when you talk about the 2nd Amendment? If so, cool!
Do not know about you! But most people talking about the amendment in the Internet tend to not understand that it is about establishing Defensive Militia Forces to protect the people from a central tyrannical government, and not to own privately a gun to kill trespassers on sight or to shoot their neighbor after a trivial dispute! Or think to impose respect toward their political opinion in public. Unfortunately that has become the norm! Hope you understand me wondering here, why you think rocket propelled grenades should be in anyones hand but the military. Do you want the pendant of Latin-American Cartels or Afghan Taliban in your country? Because letting people own weapon without control leads to warbands!
The Euromaidan was peaceful till criminals and corrupt forces opened fire on protesters. Would have been more weapons in private hand, it would had become a messy civil war in every region since propaganda, hatespeech and mobster mentality would end in chaos!

@Chareidos Major respect for putting me in my place in the most respectful way and showing me I nowhere near qualified to make the comment I made 👍

Yet, it is happening in Russia, 2023, the nation with the "second most powerful army in the world"! However tragic it will ultimately prove to be, for Russians & their non-existing institutional orders, it still is hilarious that a state and a people allow themselves to behave this unbecoming way.
Third World nations and people who could hardly produce high quality hammers & nails, due to their lack of measurement precision and/or advanced metallurgy knowledge... sure, these things happen all the time. But a nation with more nukes than all the other countries combined practicing these kinds of arbitrary, magic-wand-waving acts? Strange.
