  • Can a 17 handicap golfer really see any difference in performance between these two Taylormade golf balls.
We test driving bunker shots and just general play on the course.

Can’t just base it off drives. The Tour Response is less spin so it’s going further. The TP5 is a higher spinning ball which means it’ll be superior with irons/approach shots and wedges around the green! The Response is going to be a better ball off the tee no doubt.

This video just isn’t very helpful because you didn’t hit enough balls. You could hit the sweet spot a couple times on one ball and not on the other.

They are a similar price at the moment . You can even get the Tp5 for £30 at my local golf shop so i bought a couple of boxes. The Tour stripe was £39

For me, also a average golfer, the TP5 is the shortest ball I've played. Nice feel around the green but I need an extra club on every shot going there.

Really enjoyable video - well done. I think the Tour Response is the best value all rounder golf ball on the market. Fantastic ball

Might have a look at the Tour Response as I use the Srixon Q Star Tour, and I did a similar test with my ball and a Pro v1 and found the Pro v just a little to clicky for my liking and obviously the price again does help with the decision making.

I used TR for long time now, then the titleist AVX came out and I hit them it definitely got more bounce and distance then TR. But around the green not so friendly as TR as I heavily depend on shot game scoring. the price point is around 15 dollars different. Not worth it back to TR for me.

As another average golfer I usually stay in the mid priced premium ball range. So in the Titlelist world the Velocity or the one I game now, the Tru Feel. I know it might be a weird criteria but I like the sound of a softer ball versus the clipping sound like the Pro V's make. As I understand it most of the top tier balls have higher and more consistent spin rates, especially with wedges around the greens, which the pros and some other low handicap golfers like. And that is even with the harder outer shell, which accounts for the clipping sound, so they do not sacrifice distance off the tee. I am not at the skill level so I suppose if I get good enough were spin rate becomes a consideration, I might go another route. Enjoyed the analysis either way. It was fair and impartial IMO and shows that the average golfer will likely not benefit from the more expensive ball - except for maybe looking good in front of their friends !! Oh and pretty soon your going to have to call yourself a slightly "better' than average golfer mate.

You can clearly hear you struck the tour response better with both drives.

I used the stripe ball for a short time and was impressed with the feel and the how it played. I would definitely put myself less than the average golfer because of my age and inconsistency (getting better though). Recently I have used a pro v1, for no other reason than I got a good deal on a box and my curiosity needed feeding. Sadly I found I was playing better, drives longer and short game more accurate. I say sadly because I may have to continue gaming the ball until I can convince myself it’s nothing to do with the ball… or I spend my entire pension on prov1 balls. I bloody hate this game 😂😂

great review! about to test this with my gamer B.BXS and maybe the new even cheaper B. e6, ever tried those?

Playing this ball also. Well done

Great vid! People are so mad the tour response beat out the tp5. I would rather have more control off the tee with the tour response

32 yards difference! Almost strange. I guess you did strike Response a little better even it didn’t felt so. I have hit all Titleist balls and regarding distance they are about the same for me…as an average golfer with exception for AVX which is longer. Lower spin, longer drives. I guess that is the other reason for your results…Response spin less.

We can’t talk about price anymore on these. The fact the tour response is now 42.99 in the states as opposed to 39.99….the gap between them and the top tier TP5 & TP5x is almost zero spread over a dozen.

  • @jetsjunkie3619

I heard someone say that the TP5 is a very unforgiving ball. Your thoughts?
