I have a getaway less than a mile up the road. I live in a rural area. Less than one mile north, and I’m officially in the CO mountains. No hiking for me. A near-fatal accident in 1985 put an end to that. The passing decades haven’t helped, either. But my little getaway looks different, smells different, and as long as there is no fire ban (typical in mid-summer), I can cook over an open flame. Being now physically disabled (with other issues I won’t bore y’all with), I am thankful for what I do have, and I’m appreciative that I am still alive, and live with an attitude of gratitude. Try it! You might like it! 😉

I wish my wife practiced frugality but no dice on that. You inspire me to save and build an emergency fund.

It’s hard when couples don’t agree on how they spend. My husband and I have kept our finances separate always, but he is agreeable to living frugally and living in the country which I appreciate.

I love how creative you guys are. Even though your husband still has to work and you still drive back home to take care of animals and other things you might need to do while their, you're still making a vacation and that's very cool I love that.

That's great, preparing all your vegetables and meats ahead of time. Great idea and a great time saver. You guys can spend more time enjoying each other and the scenery and not busy doing a lot of prep for meals.❤

We used to take an old canvas tent, sleeping bags, cooler, food 2 kids and a dog and all we needed for 2 or 3 days in a VW bug. Fun memories!

We have a campground in the mountains near our home, a frequent stop for hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail. Seniors can camp there for about 6.00 a night.
We do the same as you; we drive home early morning to feed the pets and shower. We spend the day hiking, reading and just relaxing. 😊

I, too, work a job that doesn’t have two successive two days off each week; I absolutely dislike the schedule because it seems I’m always catching up on things, but never having time to relax. (I know, first-world problem.) I am hoping to change my schedule at work soon to remedy the situation.

I camp just like this! It's the best. Have seen some great places for a fraction of the cost because camping is cheap. I take my own food even it I'm going to a motel! Saves so much money.

We took my daughter bottle cap hunting at that lake this morning. On one side they were searching the lake for 2 bodies and on the other side was a big car show. Plenty to perk ones interest.

I just took advantage of a couple packages of Polska Kielbasa that were on sale at my grocery store. Nice to have that in the freezer as an alternative to maybe ground beef or even chicken. Definitely can be less expensive.😊

We are hoping to do some backcountry car camping this summer. We sleep in our Prius V but take a pop up tent for changing in and extra storage as well as a Thule car topper. We are hoping to explore the free rec sites on the mountain service roads (BC, Canada). I also food prep in advance and because we will be in remote areas in grizzlie territory, we will have to be very organized.

You've touched on getting away and how you handle your animals when there's no one else who can/will watch them OR you just don't want to burden others. I really appreciate that. I'm going to give more thought to where we might go within driving distance just to get away for a day or two! I have a box of stale saltines I wish I could send over to Brownie!!!

I have had him for 15 years. He was born on my dad‘s farm, and I don’t know how many years my dad had him before he gave him to me. I had two and the oldest one passed away last year.
