Thank you :). I live near Detroit and this reporting is real, fair and accurate. I just came back from Downtown Detroit where there's all kinds of costly food chain stores, activities, sports, etc. It's beautiful, lively and full of positive energy. But, just a few miles away you see places like what you see here. Thanks for your warm wishes and blessings.
Born and raised in Detroit. I'm 40 years old and I would love to see the city beautiful like it was when my Mom and Dad were kids. Like how it was when my Grandfather came here from Georgia to work at Ford. He worked there for 30 years and brought two homes. So many others came here with the same goals from all over the world. To put down roots and take care of their families. My Grandmother had a photo album that she wouldn't let anyone touch and it was full of pictures in and an around a neighborhood that I would live years later. It was literally looking into the past where beautiful homes stood where empty fields lie today. I hope I live long enough to see the city rise again.
It really was a good place to start a family I had good childhood. My Grandparents came to Detroit in 1957 from the south. I'm just sad my kids will never experience it. We had a real community everybody look out for one another.
The tears have been streaming down non stop. I'm a Detroit native and educator. Countless times, I've had to defend my city against people from other states, other countries; what hurts most is defending it against other Detroiters. We moved recently and we're a lot closer to those neighborhoods, and yet, we live in a state of false security. Our houses happen to look like, our neighbors are majority cordial. So it's easy to close your door and forget about the outside world. Or give up and tear down a system that failed you without any plans to build one that can save those after you. I love my city so much. So. Much. I'm the most creative here. Detroit is a beautiful city. I'm not naive, though. Halloween night in my freshman year of high school, I walked in the middle of a shoot out on grand river and west grand boulevard. I was sheltered, just getting off the Dexter bus to go home. I thought it was a Halloween prank... until the cops came 15 minutes later asking where I saw the gang members running to. I could've easily been dead, yet as a 14 year old, I was telling the families in hiding there was nothing to worry about. That was just the beginning of me truly seeing all of Detroit. I don't love it any less, but our city needs help. The predominantly black and POC neighborhoods like Mexican town are red lined. Our insurance is astronomical, and our white/non native counterparts don't realize that they've been riding off the backs of our taxes. There's nothing to scoff about hundreds of dollars difference in property taxes between the city and its suburban counterparts. We aren't getting proper resources or education to be able to own businesses, and when we do, we're locked out of buying private properties for years only to have New Detroit buy those same potential business buildings. There are helpful programs in the city, one being Teen H.Y.P.E. that actively educate our youth and help prepare them for life after high school, yet not enough know about these 501c3's and programs of the like. Thank you for taking the initiative. As an educator and community member, I'm striving to always do the same. Sharing this.
Born and raised Detroit. Working class poor. Mother n Father did not drink, smoke, or take drugs. We ate white bread with every meal to make up for small portions of meat and veggies. Family, church, pride in your neighborhood. We did not have guns in our homes or act a fool. Modesty and respect for our elders and each other. Mow the lawn, don't litter, clean after yourselves, be kind. Simple as that.

My heart goes out to each and everyone that has lost their life to gang violence and gun violence. This is a great start for this community, I also believe in receiving outside help will be a great help as well, there are many genuine people that are out here that will invest in the structure of real change, if given a chance. Not just those within a certain circle or ethnicity. God is able to bring the transformation, in any community, but it has to start and be rooted in Him. 🙏

That's right..Rise up Detroit.
He doesn't understand that his ancestors is owed a debt with Reparations...money isn't going to cause us to kill each other, it's going to help diminish disparate violence due to lack of money....
