Hey charly I started my dental nursing a month i been on reception this was only because I never had my hep b done.but now that I have had my hep b done they have only let me in for 4 sessions (4mornings) doing actual nursing. I am facing alot of difficulties. Im not exaggerating but the head nurse dentist manager and nurses are literally so stuck up and not supportive they dont let me learn im still an apprentice. Theyv made me mentally sad because i go there try my best and everytime they get me out of surgery as they think" i dont know what i am doing". Im 16 they are all like 23 28 etc i cant complain to manager because its a family based practice. I struggled to get this apprenticeship after being rejected like 16 times and not having a place in college. I been using your hack for example carrying extra gloves . Dentist told me thats so unhygienic i was like what the heck he even told me "why do you change gloves between every family patient you dont see me doing that you might aswell change your whole uniform each time" . Also in charting i struggle because i cant hear my dentist speak due to hes low voice and hes classical shitty music in the background. I told him to plz speak up he goes "Well i cant shout".....what shall i do charly they've put me off literally the whole course.😢
Hi, loved your video, very informative. I am considering a career change and want to become an Orthodontic Therapist one day. Do you know anything about it? How much time does it take to become one. Dental nurse is the beginning of the my journey. Also, when you say that you get rude patients sometimes, is it mainly when you are working on reception? I’ve always thought that it is the ideal environment for client-customer facing role as the ones you are dealing with usually cannot talk as their mouth are open while sitting on the dental chair.:)
Jekaterina D hey! Thanks so much for watching :) I have done some ortho nursing and LOVE it! It’s quite different but I prefer it to general nursing :) I’m not too sure about an orthodontic therapist, I know you have to be very clever haha but if it’s what you want to do then definitely pursue it! And yes rude patients are almost always on reception because they think you know nothing about being in surgery, whereas most of the nurses at my practice also work on reception so we actually do know what we’re talking about when we try and explain something! But yes it’s reception where you will get most of not all of the rude ones! X
Hey :) I’m not sure on the specifics as I’ve never done it but as far as I know you would need to look at universities which provide the courses (like kings college London) and they will all have specific entry requirements...I don’t know exactly what qualifications you would need though x
Good evening. I'm based in Scotland and as male going into dental nursing do you have any advice? With courses we can do through employment can we work our way up to hygiene therapy or even destisry? What's the progression like? I've not yet watched your video fully so maybe some of those questions will be answered. Lol
Hey :) no unfortunately with dental nursing there is no progression. You can do other courses within nursing so you’re able to take x-rays or impressions but you could never “work up” to being a therapist or dentist. If that is what you would rather do then I wouldn’t do a nursing qualification as you will still have to do 5 years at university for a therapy or dental degree. Hope that answers your question!
If you mean can we do it for a patient then no, but generally you do it at home yourself. The dentist will take impressions and send them to the lab to mould trays and then you take the bleach home and do it yourself. For the one in surgery which takes a couple of hours, no that has to be done by the dentist :)
Typsi Gypsy are you from the US or the UK? In the UK they’re called Dental Nurse...unless you’re from a part of the UK which call them dental assistants?
