The Iris and Comfrey look fab, delighted your neighbour has been watering the plants in the greenhouse, the temperatures do get way hotter in there 😊 Keep up the great work 😊💚🌿
Watering when it's hot is not as bad as some gardeners make it seem. If it's hot and dry, the plants need the water. Waiting until it cools means they are stressed longer. Just try to avoid overhead watering and focus on watering just the soil. If I'm doing my mental conversion (to Fahrenheit) right, then 20-22° isn't warm enough for it to even be a little bit of a concern. When it passes 30° is when you need to take care how you water. (Coming from a Texas gardener in the southern United States 😉)
yeah just avoid watering the leafs this will cause burn on the leafs, when you constantly water like a sprinkler system you can water all day on the leafs.
I love the respect and space you give the little creatures in your garden. I have several birdbaths in my gardens. Some bought and one in particular birds love, which is a large planter saucer on a little old outside cafe style table I found that someone was throwing away. So I put the saucer on the little table and a few small stones (for insects) and filled it with water. The birds love it - they get in there and splash away. I love watching them. Thanks for sharing your plot with us. Watching from the USA in Plattsburgh New York!
I've just caught up on the series! I'm seriously proud of you, what a lot of work to convert everything into the lovely little garden you have now. I can't wait to see what it will look like by the end of the summer.
Try putting crushed egg shells around your plants or even copper pennies (do they still have them in England), anyway they will keep slugs away. I just heard on another channel that they use copper pan scourers. When unrolled they are a tube which can be cut into sections, then placed over the plant and pushed onto the ground, so they become a ring of protection.
you have literally turned a landfill into a little paradise. I have now seen all the videos and you had a vision of what it could become, kudos for that. As for the bird bath, I made one from an old washing machine window that sits on an old tree stump. Maybe it would also be an idea to make a wild strip? I also have one that is one meter wide and three meters long. I sowed a wild mixture with grain hemp, millet and many other bird food seeds and I have many birds in my garden. I now even have a yellowthroat nesting in my greenhouse
The easiest bird bath is an upturned pot with the pot saucer on top and place a heavy stone in it to hold it in place and for birds to land on. Your plot is looking so nice!! A seating area is essential in a garden!
That's exactly what I have done in my garden at home! 🥰 I'm hoping that one day I will have something fancier 🤣 Thank you so much for watching Christine 💖
@@serensgarden You will! But until then there are so many clever ideas out in the universe! I bought one from Amazon but the quality wasn’t that good and the base broke so, I have an old cow milk can (the big ones they use on commercial farms) and the bird bath top sits on it now! I hope it survives the squirrels I have! Love your videos from the US!
I have been watching Sean James Cameron for several months. He recently moved back to Wales, and got an allotment on a hillside. He has given this up, and is now renting a flat plot of land near a river. This needs re doing, it is very overgrown, and will be interesting to follow. You are doing so well, Seren. I hope your hard work is fruitful. A friend in the village has taken on my late husband`s veggie plot at the end of the garden. I am too disabled to do it justice. Best wishea from Susan in East Yorkshire.
Been watching Sean too that allotment was in a terrible state and he decided it wasn’t for him because of health issues ,let’s hope he can manage the new plot even that seems a lot of work for ,fingers crossed he can manage as he really wants to have plot of his own .Serene you’ve done a wonderful job on the allotment well done 👏👏👏👏😍
Oh I have not seen any of Sean's videos before, but now I am very interested! I have subscribed and will have to catch up on them! 🤭 Thank you so much for watching Susan, you are very kind! 💖 and I am so glad to hear someone has taken on your husbands veg plot 💖💖💖
I love that you're so English that 20 degrees seems super hot to you. My German butt can relate. Meanwhile my colleague from South America called us all crazy the other day because we were wearing shorts and tshirts at 20 degrees because the sun finally popped out for a few days.
I like the bench .idea at the top of the plot in the shade. 👍 And the sunflower privacy fence is a terrific idea. If you ever get a shed you'll already have the perfect location prepared for it.
The Range are doing 4 bags of 50lt organic compost for £10 !!!!!!! It sells really wuick but ive found if i can get there on a friday morning I seem to get them!
I enjoy watching your channel , you have done good so far. Have you thought about putting a cover of some kind over your greenhouse, it might make it less sunny in there and also cooler. Keep up the good work .🦜🐤🥒🍅🍆🥔🥕🌽🌶🫑🧄🥦🥬🧅
The reason this channel is so good is simple! There is no pretence or showmanship at play, couple hat with innocence as regards growing and planting and the many viewers can relate with you. Go girl and keep doing what you do, it is called learning.
Your plot is looking amazing Seren! I have had mine for 18 months now and it still doesn’t look as good as yours. You have worked so hard! Love your love of wildlife too! ❤
Love seeing people around my age also diving into gardening/growing! I started only 2 years ago first year of growing was a complete disaster, but last year was really good still have over 30lbs of peppers in the freezer! This year is off to a rough start but pushing through the tough times... Keep it up, earned a new subscriber :)
Yesss! I love to see more young people gardening 👩🏼🌾 I’ve also only been growing 2/3 years 😄 there’s a lot to learn, but I love every minute of it! Woah! So many peppers! That is a goal of mine this year … a freezer full of peppers! 🤣 Thank you so much for watching 🥰
@serensgarden right? It's peaceful, calming and rewarding to garden 😊 Definitely a lot to learn! I failed quite a few things last year that I hope to succeed this year or at least do a better job growing 🤞 Yeah I grew too many by accident haha gonna try to make some mash and sauces this summer with the peppers 🌶 Good luck on your garden this year, I'll be tagging along! Have a wonderful week ♥️
Could the compost bins be used as large planters by half burying in the ground (upside-down) and filling with wood and twigs, then soil? Just a thought. 🤔❤
Seren, I'm grateful to know you have neighbors who will water your seedlings! I find myself wishing I were nearby, so I could share my excess seedlings with you and your neighbors! (Every time I watch you spreading compost from a plastic bag, I wish I could share my excess compost with you and your neighbors too! Mine doesn't come in bag. It comes straight from the horses each morning!) Since seeds are so cheap, I tend to start excessive numbers, and then give away the excess if "too many" of them survive. I just sent a friend home with a collection of tomato, basil, pepper seedlings. She won't be planting them out any time soon. She lives in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, at 8000 feet above sea level so her average last frost date is likely mid-June! (Ours is around June 1, at 6800 feet.) I hope you'll show us the toad houses when you build them! We have lots of toads here, mostly singing from the small pond near my garden. I've never built anything for them, so I assume something about the stones surrounding the pond provides them good habitat. The toads have been singing lots lately!
If you get a metal table and chairs for your seating area, they could blow into your greenhouse during windstorms and break the glass. Better to put the seating area closer to the compost bin area near the back of the allotment where they won’t do much damage.
Rodents don't like hot pepper powder, I used it to keep them away from the veggies and the pots they dug into from the top. The other thing is coffee, ground and used or just old beans ground up. They confuse the smells. Your plot is looking so much better, you've brought it into a really good place.
You’re doing so well. Your plot is coming along so lovely and making improvements every week. I am looking forward to seeing all your summer flowers blooming as we are coming into winter. Hi from Australia 😀
Hello 🐸 Toads like damp areas but not in the pond. Usually only breed in the ponds. Piles of bricks and stones are good for them to hide under. Also that brash, twiggy bits, won't rot down very well on your compost heap. That too could be piled into a corner of your plot for toads, frog and other creatures to hide underneath. Could the bins be seen in half to make little raise bed areas, just a thought 🤔. Sending love & light 🐝🌹🐞💐🦎 xx
I used to put plastic pipes down next to each courgette and pour the water down them to reach the roots. Also water retaining gel mixed into the compost also helps with keeping things moist.
Hi Seren - check your onions for Allium Leaf miner - I noticed a couple of corkscrew leaves which is a sure indication 😕 The RHS website has lots of info on this horrible pest! I’ve just had to burn all of my onions as they were all affected! Hopefully only one or two of yours might be 🤞🤞🤞. You’ve done soooo well! ❤️
Oh no 🤭 I will have to do a proper inspection.. I'm hoping it's because of the horrid wind we've had that they look a bit mangled.. and it's not due to leaf miner 😵💫 Will update! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Some people use a white water based paint on their greenhouse windows in summer. Or maybe put up some shade cloth in there. Might help with the scorching.
Hello from the US. (Washington State) I happened on your channel at the beginning. I think you are doing a fantastic job! I think a lot of people are correct about the slugs., beer traps work and they are non toxic. It can be challenging but worth it.
I would love to see your own garden as well. You have inspired me to start tackling my jungle garden and just seeing the progress of th8ngs you are growing at home would be as interesting to me as the allotment. You are a star and are making such huge progress.
I was drawn in by your enthusiasm, work ethic, and kind/calm charm. It's obvious that you enjoy the plot and the nature around it, and you are not just making videos for fame/fortune. Thanks for sharing these experiences :) Can't wait to see how the toads react when they get new homes!
Oh thank you so much for watching and for leaving such a kind comment Patrick 🥲 I really appreciate it! Hahah the toads don’t know what they’re in for! 🍄🐸
These water iris will take over everything. I have 2 ponds with a water fall. The top pond had the iris in it. In 3 years it was completely root bound. I just pulled them all out. ( not an easy task). They dropped seeds in my new garden bed. It now looks like grass growing filling a 9x4 bed 🤦♀️. It’s going to be years to remove it all. If you remove the pallet off your pond the birds will love it! I love to watch the birds and bees in mine.
Your plot is so pretty. You should be so proud of all your hard work. Well, I am for you. I think I want to do some fairy houses in my back yard. I still have 6 blueberry plants to plant have no idea where. Plus, lots of flowers still have not picked up any tomatoes. I did get 2 multicolored pepper plants because they are so pretty. Some more strawberry plants because a girl never has enough. Have a great weekend enjoy your toads.
Had to laugh when you said it was very hot @ 20°. We would be reaching for jumpers here in Southern Australia. A hot day for us starts at about 30°. I know it’s all relative and what you’re used to. I don’t know if you have plans for a shed, if not, a shade structure/sail somewhere would provide welcome shade. You could also use shade cloth over your greenhouse to keep temps down over summer.
Hahaha anything above 20 is HOT here in Wales 🤣 we are definitely not used to it .. especially as we have been stuck at around 10 degrees lately.. had the heating on last week! Shed is definitely on the cards, probably for next year 😄 for now I’m going to try and utilise next doors tree for shade! Maybe bring a parasol. And shade cloth will be a must if we have a hot summer! Thank you so much for watching!! 🥰
Your garden is coming along nicely, but I would invest in some slug bait. There are products suitable for organic gardeners and slugs are very destructive. Probably time to put the hothouse seedlings outside also. A little cloche covered in light shade cloth, and protected from slugs will reduce the stress on seedlings.
planting along with you. so far my potatoes, red and green spring onions, beetroots, carrots and white roots are growing well. need to space out my carrots. my strawberries need some attention. my garden has a lot of dandy lions everywhere. but im ignoring it so far. your garden looks soooo great :)
Hi Seren, my son and enjoy your videos. you have worked so hard and achieved so much, very well done. Thought you may like to know that aquilegias and antirrhinum flowers are not attractive to slugs, could be an alternative to the cornflowers.
Salt only works if you sprinkle non the slug...salt sprinkled on paths could wash into beds and kill plants....maybe try beer traps for slugs...allotment looking great!!..:)
I personally don't believe in beer traps, it attracts more slugs and snails than they actually kill in my experience. So you're probably helping your neighbors but not yourself
@@TheSnuffy1994 yes Snuffy, beer traps are alcohol abuse! lol If I find slugs, I drop them into an empty tin can with water and a bit of dish soap. Some people say baking soda in the water works too.
Slugs are a pain. Especially the red fat ones. But it looks like you have leopard snails too which hunts others snails, you look like a leopad snail to. That twig bin was a very good insect hotel and toad hotel looks like, if you made a tower with chicken wire and sticks you would have a nice hotel for beneficial insects on your plot. As for the snails if you give them a moist area that you control you could collect them and dispose of them, like an upside down teracota pot in a shaded and moist area. I planned a terracota pot upside down which i will put in a small container with iron phosphate pallets that kills snails.
It's so pretty! You've done an amazing job. I'm interested to see how your squashes grow. I planted sever a couple of months ago but I'm not getting fruit. I'm getting male and female flowers occasionally and I hand pollinate but they die within a few days. I think it's too hot for them (35-43 most days now). The rains will come in about a month so hopefully that'll help. Love from Gambia ❤
I am loving your channel even though I have seriously never grown anything in my life. Every time you move one of these heaps or move the skids and sticks and things, I admire your bravery. I don't know how much of an issue snakes are in your area, but they are my biggest fear and a huge reason why I don't garden.
my girl you need to get a big hat to shade your head on those scorching days. It always makes me feel better when it is too hot, when my head feels cooler.
Or... just watching Emma's Allotment channel and she got excited because she thought there was a wood chip delivery on her allotment. So made me think if you get regular wood chip and manure deliveries you could use those spare compost dalek bins for storing manure. Fill one up with manure and leave it for a year and you will have some great compost. That's what I'd do if we got free manure deliveries on our allotments (which we don't unfortunately 😔)
The growth of your channel has been phenomenal. Many gardening channels that have been around for years are struggling to reach even one thousand subscribers . Well done Seren, soon you'll hit 10k . Waiting patiently for you to sow some leeks and keep the Welsh tradition alive.
Thank you so much for watching George! I think the UA-cam gods have been very kind to me lately 🤭 I have some leeks in the greenhouse! Waiting for them to become 'pencil thin' before they get planted out .. hopefully very soon! 😅
You have done an incredible job! Strulch is great, but I discovered some plants don't like it piled close. It burns them. I just leave a circle round plant. 😊
Your potatoes are looking great! Suggested bed width is no more than about 1.5m or 4 Ft. You have made such an impact on your plot. I may have missed it but what are you going to do about your pathways? If you leave bare soil, Mother Nature will cover it. 😄
I think the previous owner must have put it on, I have just left it to cover the pond for now while I work out a solution to make more of a ‘ramp’ for any animals that might fall in 😅 it doesn’t look good, I know! Someone has suggested I just place a plank in for now while I continue to collect stones and pebbles 😬 thank you so much for watching!
You have done an amazing job with your Lottie Seren well done. Just a suggestion with your courgette build a little moat about 12” away from the plant in a circle and the water will stay in the moat and soak down to the roots.
Wow are you sure you went away the allotment looks amazing. Hope the rats move on if there’s lots of activity they don’t stay. Have a super week, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
Its best to start your own compost process, the bags from the big store are not good quality, in my opinion. another thing you can do is put a log under your beds, it acts as a water sponge for the plants and bacteria. And put mulch on top of the soil.
Don't think about doing that nettle bed in one go. Just come in and do a square foot. I bet you'll end up doing more than that. If you don't, just do another foot the next time.
Your fig tree looks a bit like mine. Just leaves on the end of the branches. I guess this might be normal then. My plot came with the fig tree already in the ground. No idea what variety it is. Was wondering if the few leaves at the end of the branches means the plant is struggling but I guess it's normal.
Well done Seren, you are doing such good work there, and it’s lovely to witness your care and attention to everything you do. Keep doing what you are doing x
Hello Seren, all looking good in your plot. I am glad, I started watching you from day 1. Seeing all the progress makes me happy for you. I was just thinking to myself if the plastic pot may be burning the squash from the heat of the sun. I may be wrong but it could be possible. Plastic holds heat for a long time. The new planned sitting area looks better as there is shade. Sunflowers will make a good seasonal hedge. All the best.
I got the keys for my very over grown plot day 😊
🎉
Congratulations!!
Yay! That's so exciting! 🥳

I have been warned about the iris 🥲🥲🥲 It's a shame because they are pretty! I will definitely be removing some of them soon... and the pallet 🤭 soon..
"Toad of Toad Hall" (Wind in the Willows) will need a posh place 😂😂😂
Your doing absolutely great with your plot ,why as allotmenteers do we say I’m going home and then it’s 3hours later x
Gosh, your allotment plot is looking lovely. You've done such an amazing job. I'm inspired!
Maglpies and othet birds will eat the slugs! Just expose them ... the slugs that it 😂 x
I am hoping now that the ground sheet is gone and they are all exposed the birds will get them 😅 hopefully the toads will too! Thanks for watching 🥰
planting along with you. so far my potatoes, red and green spring onions, beetroots, carrots and white roots are growing well. need to space out my carrots. my strawberries need some attention. my garden has a lot of dandy lions everywhere. but im ignoring it so far. your garden looks soooo great :)
Good choice for your seating area be lovely 👍
Your plot looks amazing you are doing great you shoud be so proud ❤
Hi Seren, my son and enjoy your videos. you have worked so hard and achieved so much, very well done. Thought you may like to know that aquilegias and antirrhinum flowers are not attractive to slugs, could be an alternative to the cornflowers.
The plot is coming around nicely. You’ve put a lot of work into it and it shows. Cheers.
You have done loads B to your garden💐
You have an amazing transformation storyline and you are hardworking and determined- makes it easy to subscribe and keep watching :)
Your hard work is paying off. Well done.
Defo need to keep your soil moist needs watering & mulch if you can.
I wish it was 22 cel = 71.6. I’m in Florida and that is very comfortable temp for us. High for today 95 f = 35 cel
Woahhh! That’s hot 🥵 If I can’t cope in 22, I sure as hell wouldn’t cope in 35 😅🤣
Salt only works if you sprinkle non the slug...salt sprinkled on paths could wash into beds and kill plants....maybe try beer traps for slugs...allotment looking great!!..:)
💚
It's so pretty! You've done an amazing job. I'm interested to see how your squashes grow. I planted sever a couple of months ago but I'm not getting fruit. I'm getting male and female flowers occasionally and I hand pollinate but they die within a few days. I think it's too hot for them (35-43 most days now). The rains will come in about a month so hopefully that'll help. Love from Gambia ❤
Love, love love the progress!
You have made such amazing progress!
You are doing a wonderful job!
You might want to keep one of the spare compost bins for things like forcing rhubarb.
Or... just watching Emma's Allotment channel and she got excited because she thought there was a wood chip delivery on her allotment.
I think the pencil thick leek is a figment of someone's imagination.
Beautiful day on the allotment looks really tidy👍❤️
You have done an incredible job! Strulch is great, but I discovered some plants don't like it piled close. It burns them. I just leave a circle round plant. 😊
Your potatoes are looking great! Suggested bed width is no more than about 1.5m or 4 Ft. You have made such an impact on your plot. I may have missed it but what are you going to do about your pathways? If you leave bare soil, Mother Nature will cover it. 😄
Thank you so much Sylvie 🥰💖
I will be woodchipping the paths 🙂 waiting for a wood chip delivery!
👌👌 Glad I start your journey with you... It is therapeutic... You're doing great! ❤️
Seren, please tell me what the purpose the plastic pallet over your pond serves.
You are doing a great job.
Your plot is looking fantastic. Great work.
Thank you so much Ali! 🥰💖 I’m hoping if I continue to disturb their tunnels they will move out.. 😅 hope you have a lovely week! 💖
ITS 90 TODAY IN CALIFORNIA TRY CHARD LIKE SPINACH FOR SALAD OR COOKED GROWS EASY POPULAR IN ITALY WHAT DO YOU USE FOR SALAD DRSG
All is looking good. Well done.
You need to cover that green house
I do!! It's getting way too hot and it's only May! 🥵
I look forward to your videos u have done a great job it has inspired me to do my garden a it a bit of jungle.
Awh thank you so much! That's so lovely to hear 🥰
You should add a few comfrey leave on you compost heap...use all your containers for future planting or storage.. Paint them pink 🌟
The plot looks amazing.
So excited for you ❤😂
Its best to start your own compost process, the bags from the big store are not good quality, in my opinion. another thing you can do is put a log under your beds, it acts as a water sponge for the plants and bacteria. And put mulch on top of the soil.
Don't think about doing that nettle bed in one go. Just come in and do a square foot. I bet you'll end up doing more than that. If you don't, just do another foot the next time.
corvids are my favourite birds
Your fig tree looks a bit like mine. Just leaves on the end of the branches. I guess this might be normal then. My plot came with the fig tree already in the ground. No idea what variety it is. Was wondering if the few leaves at the end of the branches means the plant is struggling but I guess it's normal.
Well done Seren, you are doing such good work there, and it’s lovely to witness your care and attention to everything you do. Keep doing what you are doing x
Perhaps, two seating areas? One for morning shade, another for afternoon shade?
Hello Seren, all looking good in your plot. I am glad, I started watching you from day 1. Seeing all the progress makes me happy for you. I was just thinking to myself if the plastic pot may be burning the squash from the heat of the sun. I may be wrong but it could be possible. Plastic holds heat for a long time. The new planned sitting area looks better as there is shade. Sunflowers will make a good seasonal hedge. All the best.
Amazon wish list would be a much better idea for sure, keep up the good work
