Never before have I so personally understood the weight of the words "players won't feel much incentive to stop". You could probably do a fairly long video explaining everything "players won't feel much incentive to stop", except you'd lose 6 - 10 minutes because you've already covered UI Goku. Entertaining and educational as always! Even after 200-300 hours in the game I didn't really understand the complications that are behind the mashing of L.
So if I’m a new player because I’m a huge Dragonball fan, what would be the best way to approach the game without auto combos? Never been too good at 2D fighting games
(5:52) Ahhhh, that's that good stuff. I mean, uh- Gohan's autocombo is definitely very fair Bagel, you just have to look the other way when it happens. Nothin out of the ordinary AT ALL :)
There is technically a third autocombo in the game's tutorial, though it's also the most worthless (except maybe Roshi to make some routes easier). Mashing H after a 5H or 2H makes superdash come out. Yes, the game calls this the H autocombo.
Came for the FighterZ analysis, stayed for the funky beats Also SSJ4 Gogeta’s autocombo belongs in the GODS tier dude it does everything- switch sides, anti airs, huge zone control Also also MoldyBagel’s continuing hate on UI is always funny, really takes me back to like February when we all thought he was Christ incarnate lmao
I've never had a problem fighting a UI player (unless they're smart as shit or something) it's always z broly to be considered a character that no matter how long I play and how good I get, I get washed by any z broly player and I never know why.

Honestly yamcha might have had one of the best auto combos. Before the last update it was the safest way to tag out and has zero weaknesses or openings once they’re blocking. It’s definitely an example of boring but practical.
Reminder that in BBTag, ArcSys _other_ tag team fighter, with core systems revolving around smart (auto) combos, dont have their normals chain on whiff It's worth noting how particularly egregious the auto correcting is even _after_ taking the few characters with overtuned ACs out of the equation. It can be nuts Perhaps this and other systems can be improved in FighterZ 2, if there is this game ever gets a sequel Cheers
Ahh yes, auto combos I remember my friend showing me this game, we would just spam auto combos at each other, then I got the game, stopped relying on auto combos too much unless if it is part of a specific combo I am making, while this friend of mine that Introduced dbfz to me still spams autocombo... "why would I put myself into so much effort if the combos are already made?" He said.... well, at least he never had a w against me ever since
@@atroposV he's the type of guy that thinks "real games" are triple A, so he is more inclined to grind ours in games like mortal kombat or tekken, can't really blame him
It was initially. The part in the video where it says the range was increased was the one people were saying was a nerf. Cuz they also gave the second hit increased landing recovery and it didnt have the tracking at that point
The autocombo reminds me of Lee from Last Blade 1, that guy can literally combo his moves into another move even when he does not hit the opponent, NONE of the other character in the roster can even do that, but I would say this is fairly balanced because the other characters have bigger attack hitboxes while Lee's attack hitbox is very small.
You forgot my favorite part! The fact you get rewarded more for whiffing the first hit than actually landing it because for some reason 5LLs are medium scaled. Which is the only reason I'd say UI's autocombo is equal to Gohan's. Because not only is it a half-screen low-crush, it's a medium scaled one.
5Ls are usually a character’s most stubby move (if not, then it’s 2l), and most that aren’t have 7f startup to compensate And then right after that tiny 5L whiffs, you *immediately* get donked by a medium scaled attack that reaches 3 brolys away and off goes your health sweet prince
I like how you used Videl for an example of an invincible option to counter Vegito. It's probably just a coincidence but as a Videl main it's pretty sweet to see.
I remember telling people on reddit during the game's first EVO that auto-combo is way more powerful than it should be. They said that it only works on noobs, git gud etc, and then GO1 *immediately* got a reversal on someone by mashing Bardock's AC and got them out of the air with the third hit. That should have been my cue to stop posting on reddit.

Yeah, the game doesn’t really do a good job of teaching about comboing properly unless you go out of your way to learn them. Only reason I ever finally looked up how to do it was cause some people could kill my characters after only 2 touches versus like 6 or 7 from auto combos.

Btw i wanted to ask@@MoldyBagelWhy do you think gogeta blues AC belongs in D Tier? Yes I read the ‘‘Made in 5 seconds“ disclamer but his 5L is huge, fast and safe on block, you can combo his 5LL into a dragonrush for free snapbacks *(MIDSCREEN)* and his 5LLL is a sideswitching overhead, even if the opponent is blocking in the corner (for mixup). He‘s at least 2 Tiers to low (in my opinion)
I mean, another reason people avoid them is how toxic the community is. Having trouble beating a boss or something and need tips? Get good scrub. Its worse than just that but its annoying to know you dont get much help
I think the best solution would be to make it so that the AC is only limited to the first normal and it won't do the rest of the combo unless on hit or on block like in Bbtag or p4a
People have literally been saying that since the beta. I didn't even play this game till Covid, but even I heard that DBFZ players thought this was a genuine bug at first. They hated it THAT much but it's still in the game, so it's probably not going away.
This is the second time I've seen someone use the low quality clip of me getting destroyed by Teen Gohan in a DBFZ video (and you even credited it 😳) Great video as always btw
I will say as a total noob, medium autocombos can actually teach you how certain specials can combo into certain supers and potentially other stuff, giving you ideas that someone like me wouldn't think of. Jiren's M combo for example combos his Infinity Rush into the Colossal Slash, because one sends you into the corner and the super travels all the way into the corner. Pretty neat! Cooler's as well shows you his ground-cracking special can prep enemies for a clean level 1 super, since it also travels full screen. Also neat!
Personally, I consider Teen Gohan's autocombo to be a deal with the devil, since it makes combos so much harder to extend unless you use a much lower damaging route. Remember that you can't input a medium after the 2nd hit of the auto combo. At this point, you either press L a third time, or do a 236 attack, and both those options make the damage significantly lower. You may say that's the case for other autocombos but it can also be a disadvantages in blockstrings. But that isn't always the case, so it's not as big of a downside as combos. So yes, while Teen Gohant does win neutral a LOT thanks to his auto combo, I wouldn't say it's THAT bad. Sure, it's in the absolute best in the game, but worse than Vegito? Nah.
Yeah hitconfirming with teen gohan is pretty annoying due to that factor, but the fact that it leaves him airborne lets you go into legs where his mix is located, which I feel balances out the negativity
I think the incentive with autocombos is there. There's the damage, the cool factor, and the fact that some auto combos are actually pretty shit for the type to spam Autocombos. If you want to do more than ~2.5k damage without meter, you're gonna have to stop using only autocombos. Long, cool combos are a little easier to dip your toes into, since they can use the autocombo to start getting used to timing. It's easier to tack shit onto and into the autocombo than it is to start the combo from scratch... sorta like making cookies from scratch vs using a boxed mix. and for my last point... I only began to branch away from Autocombos because hit had like... zero anti-air in his, Piccolo couldn't do a knockdown and piledriving people with 16 is fun as fuck. I began to learn how to do combos *because* there were things I wanted to do that Autocombos could... and even then, it was difficult enough starting out for me to tack supers at the end of combos... I probably wouldn't have stuck around if not for them.
I feel like Vegito's autocombo is at least somewhat balanced by the insane timing. If the opponent doesn't get hit by the initial kicks, it's a free punish. And anyone who gets hit by the grab after watching Vegito go through all those kicks probably deserves to lose anyway.
There's also the issue that CPU's will block your high/low mixes and cross ups for days, but they'll instantly open up every time you Super Dash and/or autocombo. Granted this is more of an AI issue, but seeing as most people start with offline play this is another huge incentive to do nothing but auto combos

1:24 Trunks: (yeets Vegeta)
Also Trunks: (yells in concern)
I feel like Vegito's autocombo is at least somewhat balanced by the insane timing.
If the opponent doesn't get hit by the initial kicks, it's a free punish.
And anyone who gets hit by the grab after watching Vegito go through all those kicks probably deserves to lose anyway.
Lol good point
0:30 Broooo so cuteee 💗
ACs can't really be nerfed without upsetting the whole goddamn community
Edit:happy 100k!
17 mains when his autocombo got nerfed: "Pathetic."
I always loved the magnet properties for aerial combos. It actually made the game more complex, or atleast the combo part of it.
Yeah they do feel wonky since sometimes using the magnet will make you whiff when not using it was actually the right thing cause it overcorrected
There's also the issue that CPU's will block your high/low mixes and cross ups for days, but they'll instantly open up every time you Super Dash and/or autocombo. Granted this is more of an AI issue, but seeing as most people start with offline play this is another huge incentive to do nothing but auto combos
Do they? Maybe I'm just so used to fighting game single player being dogshit that I didn't even think about it lmao
Bro or sis wow I discovered your channel yesterday by watching some dbfz tournament on youtube. Your videos are so funny the editing is gorgeous and your analysis is incredible I like watching your videos so don't stop please, you have a new subscriber now.
Yesterday i bought Super Mario 3D World and as i’ve been playing it i thought of this video cuz literally all the songs in this vid are from there. Crazy
“They’re harder to beat than to use” I’ve said this so much but I wasn’t sure if I was just coping or not
This is literally professional level quality informative, and it's funny. It has it's fair share of gags, good transitions, and great pacing.
Always insanely impressed with the quality of your videos, keep it up
basically these guys are the power rangers of auto combos, Gohan would be yellow, but he's gold
I love teen Gohan as a character & started the game last year learning to play with teen Gohan as my main for a while & I button mashed my ass off & at times I get brain farts & mash but that’s the dumb part as at times get wrekt for but now I still use teen Gohan on my main team but he isn’t my main anymore but I still love him cuz he’s where I found my footing & love for the game but now as a Jiren main I’ve ascended from mashing noob to combo noob lol but I love the game & much respect to all the fans who love Dragon ball & FighterZ see you all out there friends 🤜🏽🤛🏼👊🏽💪🏽🦾💪🏽
Vegeta saying
“I NEED HELP!” Made me laugh
This is why I use simple controls for the Nintendo swotch, it literally reduces the stress my brain has to use while playing the game by 60%
I'd give you a hand made award for that Vegeta PONG joke holy shit that made my sides hurt 😂
the thing they dont really touch on in the so called tutorials are that pressing down/up on the d pad whilst using combos is neccesary and that chaining combos using light medium and heavy are the main rule
4:30 My brother is a Vegito main. And every time I play against him he does light 1 on my block and dares me to challenge it. The problem is I play mostly slow characters. It makes me cry to have my block oppressed unless I have a DP.
>bad day
>notification: new MoldyBagel video
>good day
:)
I love how the characters with op ac are all somehow linked with goku or just are goku
I'm still learning how to play this game
Currently I use cooler janemba and monkey Gogeta. Yes I'm very biased with my favorites but hey, isn't everyone?
While I do have some small combos I can use for each caracthers, like for janemba I can autocombo, supedash, light light blast and either level 1 or air kick (aka the sword) I still need to learn the more complex combos, so this video helped alot on knowing more about autocombos
Awesome bro best of luck to you
