    The rabbits are not in suitable living conditions.
    1. they can not walk on wired flooring because it will cause them to have bad feet.
    2. they should be able to do 3 full hops length ways and 2 full hops width ways at least.
    3. they should be able to stand up fully.
    4. they should have access to a run at all times.

      Hate to say it because I’m a bun lover too but sweetie they are his food. Not pets and they probably don’t live long in his care for their feet’s to get bad before he eats them.. yes you are right in many cases. I keep my bun in a cage at night or when I am gone. He has his own room otherwise. Don’t judge me for keeping him in a safe cage (Like many bunny crazed people will). It is good to know where he is at all times in case of an emergency. A fire happens or something then I can pick Him up safely and get out quicker than running around the room chasing him or trying to find him. People don’t think about that before they say, “No Cages for a bunny!”

    Are domestic rabbits susceptible to rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus? Our local news has advised us not to hunt rabbits because of the virus. Is it just wild rabbits that are affected?

    • @kidsplayrabbitry4930
      @kidsplayrabbitry4930 3 роки тому +1

      RHDV2 is active in the South and Southwest of US as well as parts of Mexico and there were cases last year in Washington state. There is a facebook group for all US pet owners and breeders to track it. It does affect both the wild and domestic in this specific strain. We as breeders are watching closely. The vaccine is only available with special permissions through the state vets of active states as it needs to be imported.

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked 3 роки тому +1

      I am sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I don't know that there is much you can do at the moment. You can start with trying to clean out all of the bedding and replacing it every few days so the fleas don't reproduce and multiply too much. But I would wait until the rabbit is at least 6 to 8 weeks old and weaned from the mother before doing any kind of pesticide treatments on them. I wish I had a better solution for you but newborn rabbits can't really handle pesticides well and I wouldn't want to treat a nursing doe with them either.

    Hey brother. Have you done a video for preppers on self-sustaining rabbitry? I'm concerned with bare minimum number of rabbits to sustain healthy genetics on a meat rabbit schedule and make as much meat as those rabbits could produce in a given year. Assuming I couldn't go to the breeder for a fresh doe or buck in 2 years. If you've done this in the past, can you point me at it? I feel like some clever hashtags would bring a lot of views to your channel. 2020 reawakened my prepping after a long hiatus. Home grown meat seems like the logical thing and rabbits seem like the best option for a lot of reasons. Cheers! Mark

    Dawn dish soap kills fleas, so just bathe your bunny, invest in a flea comb. Clean the environment etc.
    (I've been bathing my bunny since it was a kit so my bunny doesn't mind it when it happens , lather the neck with dawn soap so when the flees run up the body to escape drowning the caught in the soap, easier to bathe them in a sink or small basin with Luke warm water, use the flee comb to catch any escapee's). Not all bunnies like Baths can be stressful for them, so go easy on your bun get it used to the idea of a bath so they don't panic.

    I am back to having Rabbits, This time Rex Rabbits and I have to keep them in larger pens instead of cages. The cages depressed me but I have no problem with others using cages. I choose Rex Rabbits because if I find I need high quality fur I can process them at the correct age for fur and slow cook the meat, and if I need them for good meat I can process them sooner for meat and still have a decent pelt. For now they are just pets at the ready to be treated as live stock in a food shortage. The best part about rabbits is the Poo! every gardener knows that Rabbit Poo is the best.
