Our Mexican neighbors prepare the most delicious meals and only for that they deserve the respect of the whole world for their glorious and extensive history and culture!
Ponche...We had ponche at Tias house every Christmas..and one time we put so much piquete on my tias cup that she was so drunk dancing... I miss those days....family memories
@@Speakupok - Mexican gastronomy is a cultural heritage of humanity. I, as Mexican from México, appreciate Rick and his work promoting authentic Mexican cuisine. He is respectful towards the culture.
Omg I used to watch you on PBS I think it was. I was a kid back then and I was always excited watching you cook our Mexican food with the most authentic ingredients.
Fun fact, as I grew up having this every Christmas, I could almost smell every ingredient in this video! Lol You knew it was Christmas time by the smell of guavas when you entered my abuela’s house! Thanks for posting!
I prefer fresh fruit. You will find everything on a Mexican market... Specially the sugar cane, they peel it and cut it for you! I love ponche de frutas on Christmas Eve and on Christmas day!
I was intrigued/inspired to make ponche after seeing tecojote and sugar cane at the mercado about 5 years ago. We all agreed that it was much more delicious than we could have imagined. It’s a wonderful tradition (and my dog’s nickname 🐕).
This year because of COVID it’s just my husband and myself. So we decided to have a Mexican posada. We joined your group to help the restaurant folks. I am also restaurant folk! And I’m making the ponche. It’s such a fun ritual. And we are so fortunate to have a Mexican grocery close by. We live in memphis. We are big fans. The menu includes and this is over several days. Fish tacos, chorizo bean dip. Flour tortillas for carnitas burritos. The pork shoulder is smoking today. We love your tortillas for quesadillas and breakfast burritos as well. It’s full on. And to finish it off I’m diving into the bunuelos recipe. You are right the grocery has all the ingredients. What a fun adventure. Thank you for all you share. For taking care of your employees in a creative and fun way. We ❤️you. Feliz Navidad!!!🎄🙏❄️☃️🥰
As a recently Mexican expat in California, this video brought warm and happy memories to my soul! I haven't seen you in a while Chef, but now that I discovered your channel, you've got a new subscriber !
The warm ponche really warms the soul and more with family. But still enjoy and his ponche is very authentic. Thanks Rick and love your shows when they aired on the cooking channel.
Yay, I am so excited. I was in Chicago 2 years ago and went to your restaurants. I even bought some at the airport to bring some back for my mom. We are huge fans of Mexico one plate at a time! I dream of taking her to Chicago so that she can savor every bit of the experience of eating at your restaurants. Gracias por su amor hacia 🇲🇽!!
I've never had this outside of Mexico, or even knew everything that was in it. Those who make it best guard their secret, much like some people do here with chili recipes. I agree about not adding tequila, its flavor won't blend in. I've also seen my aunts and uncles put brandy in it. I'll be making some this weekend. Thanks Chef
Omg I remember I would watch your videos in my HS days like 12-15yrs ago and did wondered why I never got to see ur work anymore...And here u are. How nostalgic 😢 I just wanna wish u the best! U dont know me but I just wanna let u know that ur videos back then made me feel whole☺
I am so excited to have come across this video! I grew up going to Posadas every year and the tea was something I always looked forward too but I’ve never made it..
Hi chef Rick! Ive loved your recipes and your “obsession “ with Mexican cuisine for years! Being the youngest of an immigrant from Guanajuato, I’ve adapted many recipes that are traditional from that region, I also love cooking since I was a girl , cooking things that my abuelo taught my American-both mother. I love your cazuela, parece cazo
Merry Christmas Rick and your family members I love all your cooking shows and also have given me an inspiration to follow on your recipes especially when you and your daughter make the pit to make the carnitas made my mouth water 😋 I think I have seen all your shows, love, love all of the them. Blessings to and your family
First time visit, instant subscriber. You’ve probably talked about it before, will have bing watch your vids but I’m dying to see the building your in now, those lights! And that coffered ceiling. Intriguing! Thanks for the content, looking forward to cooking along with you here in Malibu CA.
This is an authentic Mexican drink it brings back so many Christmas memories from when I was a child. When I was a teen I would start to sneak some of the ponche with rum lol
I love you Rick. Soy Chilanga. Vivo n Fort Worth Texas y gracias a tus recetas y shows me siento cerca d mi gente, d mi tierra. Te agradezco tu pasiôn por nuestra bendita comida y cultura mexicana. BENDICIONES infinitas. 🙏🎄🧑🎄
As mexican, we appreciate a lot that you don't destroy our traditions and our gastronomy as Rachel and Ina, their "recepies" were a real insult, besides not even the dogs would e at what they "cooked", happy new year!
Love your recipes Chef! You always have some tips and its a pleasure to see you cook. Hope you don't mind me asking where you got that beautiful pot? Thanks you're wonderful!
I use to watch you on tv many years ago! And you came up on my recommendation today and I had to subscribe before watching the video because I already know this recipe is going to be delicious! ❤️😊
We had ponche on Christmas Eve, its so good and keeps you warm and cozy. My mother doesn't use Jamaica, I need to ask her about this. She also adds oranges to her ponce with the other fruits as well. I guess its like a regional thing, different parts of Mexico have different versions. Regardless how you make you it, the piquete is always a great addition!
Hi Rick, we the mexicans that grew up with grandparents that have seen cook all this delish dishes, at least I have never seen my grandparents take the seeds of the tamarid we just give them tamarind a rinse and add it to the boiling water we are aware that theres seeds and we really don't eat the tamarind and the guavas we just cut um by halfs and thats all and we do leave the seeds in thats the way it's done in my house.
I already know this stuff but I really like how you do your homework and show others that is also like a cowboy thing if you like that lifestyle you will like mexican food or good cowboy man or old-school fashion cowgirl.
Rick Bayless we love you man, we have been watching your show since your daughter was a cute little girl, however, I have to tell you do not take out las semillas de las guayabas, that's where all their flavor is at! With all do respect from a borned and bread mexican that grew up drinking ponche en posadas, Noche Buena, Navidad, Año Nuevo y recalentados🤗 Para todos Feliz 2021.
I always put the guava pulp into the first part of the punch, with the flor de Jamaica and tamarind. It adds a lot of flavor, and then it gets strained out.
🎄Buena noche!! Grata sorpresa😊!!. 🎊🤗🎉
Well hello dear Sr Rick glad to see you again I used to watch your-cooking channel on tv while back saludos desde Arizona mi ponche con piquete please lol

Yes Dood! As a Mexican child in the early 2000 I was excited to see how he cooks our classic Mexican dishes
This takes me back to the 80s, best xmas drink ever, served in a traditional tácita de barro.
Takes me back to the 70s
Takes me back to 420 BC
😃ME TOO! LOVE ME SOME RICK BAYLESS and MEXICAN FOOD😍

What I like is the smell around the house when you make the ponche. Thanks, Mr. Bayless.
Fun fact, as I grew up having this every Christmas, I could almost smell every ingredient in this video! Lol You knew it was Christmas time by the smell of guavas when you entered my abuela’s house! Thanks for posting!

Love your pot where you boiled the water. Where can we find one just like that one. Love it!
For the piquete -I’d recommend a brandy like Torres or Don Pedro. There’s a smooth sweetness added to the ponche😊
