the movie is supposed to be satirical and actually takes jabs at both sides so im excited to watch it
The song is meant to be a ballad joke… the whole film is about a meteor hitting earth and nobody caring about it and acting oblivious. In the film, Ariana plays a famous pop star who sings this song in a concert to tell everybody that a meteor is about to hit earth…. It’s straight up meant to be a joke satire song. It’s literally predicted to win an Oscar for best song.
Ariana does deserve you’re attention as an artist, people have a misconception of her from some of her big singles- she actually has a pretty clean discography:)

The movie is about an astroid that is about to kill everybody and no one is listening to the scientist and only carrying about ari and kid cudi's relationship. (Ari's character's name is Riley.) That's why she sings just look up (like look up at the sky you can see we are all going to die.) But I agree that regardless of the subject of the movie the second ari verse in trash and they should have written something better that still fit the movie. Also the movie was annonced in november 2019 so it was written before the pandemic. It's not a covid parady and the fact that it looks like it is actually encouraging cause it means that it was written by people who understand human behavior so could be a good movie, idk.

Lool I can understand your frustration from the song. If you go into it with no context, then yeah you’ll most likely be disappointed. But as you realised, it’s just meant to be a parody song. And it makes sense if you know what the movie is about. I was disappointed aswell when I first heard it cuz I was hoping for a genuine collab between the two but when you take it less serious and see it for what it is, it’s not bad. And like someone else in the comments already said you have to see this as Ariana and Cudi’s characters in the movie singing this, not their real life selves. But I was so confused after reading the title of the video and seeing your reaction to the first half of the song. And then the 2nd verse happened lmao….

before i even watch the movie or at least the trailer, I already watched this music video/lyric video, and it already gave the answer to what it was really trying to convey, the lyric video itself is about the asteriod hitting the earth and the title of if is ARIANA - JUST LOOK UP (FROM "DONT LOOK UP") so i knew by then that the lyrics has something to do with the movie, its not rocket science. :)

But in all seriousness, I had no idea about this movie and I expected this to be a real song so I was crying laughing when it all went south 🤣
To be honest, before I even watched the movie, it took me another take to understand what the song really is about. Initially, I thought it spoke about love/relationships and COVID, til I realized it was pertaining to the events of the movie. I get how the reactor’s flow of understanding here, can’t blame him. I guess the song manifests differently to people. Interesting.

tbh... the movie might have been made as a suspense comedy but I do see it happening, not just in the US, when we have ignorant politicians that don't listen until it's too late. so in that case alone, I like the concept of the movie because I'm very much aware that we live in a planet where most people exists are ignorants.
