It’s time for me to quit. Smoking I have smoked since I was 18 and I’m 64 years old now. Today I struggle with a car. I have no one to blame but myself but right now I use an asthma inhaler I think it’s albuterol and so the best thing I can do is quit. It’s gonna be hard but I can do this.
Yes U CAN!!! I'm 68 and started smoking at 15. I was diagnosed with emphysema in July this year .... self inflicted because I smoked 40+ per day. After an exacerbation I got such a fright that I'm too scared to touch a cigarette
@@all4paws508your comment is almost exactly what happened to me 3 months ago. Ended up in the hospital on oxygen for 3 days. I quit cold turkey. Scared the 💩 out of me and my family. smoked 40 yrs, pack a day some days more. (I'm 64) plan on hanging around for a bit longer, God willing. Smoking is a nasty habit, and a tough addiction to break.

this is the best video on emphysema on yt with appropriate length and explanation of pathophysiology. thanks a lot for keeping it available to all of us!
I noticed that Medical Students are tuned in. I hope my personal testimony gives credit to the producer's of this Channel. I was Diagnosed with Emphysema after taking my CT Lung Scan for the six month follow up after my first CT Lung Scan at the University of Cincinnati Hospital. I quit smoking cigarettes 2 weeks before my second Lung Scan, unfortunately I waited too long because I have Dyspnea and It's very scary gasping for air. I'm worried that my Lungs may take a long time to recover. There's varying reports from no change to healthy cell regeneration.
they have become pretty well known now with many videos over 100k. I first watched when their videos had a few 100 views and had no doubt this was going to be a huge channel.

It seems there are a lot of medical students commenting. So attention to all future clinicians! It’s important to know about Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. I inherited the mutation of this which caused me to develop genetic emphysema. I never smoked my whole life. My parents were carriers - heterozygous piMZ and I received the Z mutated allele from each patent (25%chance) making me homozygous piZZ. They never knew. I only discovered I had this condition after my own children had children….and discovered it by chance when I had my genome analyzed by 23andme. Since I contribute one of my ZZs to my children, they are piMZ (carriers). Alpha1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) is considered rare BUT in actuality it is only rarely tested for, and therefore could more commonly occur than known. Only a fraction of the population is tested! It should become standard to test all newborns because its effects can be mistaken for life long conditions such as asthma, chronic bronchitis or other lung conditions, and even liver failure. Sometimes never discovered from one generation to the next…
Your ability to break down complex concepts into easily understandable explanations, coupled with clear and wonderful diagrams just made it incredible.....Thank you so much ❤
