Well, originally, Tina Louise was supposed to be a part of "the rest" with Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells. But Tina's agent wrangled a deal where she got opening credits billing and the "and also starring Tina Louise as Ginger" specifically.
@@daltonbelflower7331I reckon this one sounds so much better as a song, the rush to say their names in the end doesn’t fit at all lol, this original melody only works with the 3 syllables
First off... the 'staffs' is actually a spar or a shroud. They're not flag poles at all. The "American" flags are most likely nautical signal flags, not US flags
For a short time, I lived across the street from the Ala Wai Harbor. I have some pictures that look similar to the opening shots, so I would bet they shot from my apartment building. I also ran into the Skipper one evening at the nearby Ilikai Hotel.
Word is that Bob Denver (Gilligan) adamantly insisted that Dawn Wells' and Russell Johnson's names be included in the opening credits. From season 2 forward, they were.
Yes, I heard he had in his contract that he could choose when he appears in the credits, not that he appears first and he said something along the lines “I want my name to appear at the end with my co stars.” It was stupid they weren’t in the opening. It’s only two more people, and they are in every episode.
It was a sunny day on a tropic port, there was a tiny ship that was called the "S.S. MINNOW". Gilligan was a mighty sailing man, and the Skipper was brave and sure. These passengers sail for a three-hour tour, when the storm began, the S.S. Minnow began to toss. The S.S. Minnow did the rock-n-roll; and the ship wheel began to break. The S.S. Minnow sits on the sand of the island and it can't be fixed, because it was shipwrecked.👍
I remember watching reruns of the show in the 90's thirty years after it's initial release and I just loved this show as well as Pokémon and season 1 of Yu-Gi-Oh those were the best and most fun times of my life
at :21, you can see an American flag waving at half mast. It's because of the death of JFK, which delayed the shooting of the scene for a couple of days. (just learned this via Mental Floss)
the next frames - 0:22 until the lightning scene - also shows the flag right in the center of the pole way back in the distance in the left quadrant of the screen. You have to look way out into the distance to see it. The flag pole is to the left of the object that looks like a huge balloon or water tower. (I apologize I don't know what that object I'm using as a landmark really is. I'm sure more seafaring folks will know what that object is.)
So is the official number 4 if the question is how many different Theme songs was made for GISLAND. U have the OG PIOLET VERSION THATS nothing like the song everyone knows. Then u have this version which makes it 2. Then the professor and Mary Ann was added to make it 3. Then another verse was added “like Robinson Carusso its primitive as can be”. Making 4 Different opening theme songs for 1 show. Is there any other versions I’m forgetting? I DIDNT no if they made a different version for the Rescue show I’ve never seen
I didn't think so either, but it is. @ 0:23 seconds, just one second before the lighting scene, you will see the flag at half staff on the left side of the boat around mid screen. Keep an sharp eye and you will see it.
I like how they end with "and all the rest" when there was only two more who could have easily been named.
It was Bob Denver (Gilligan) who championed getting the professor &. Mary Ann added to both the ballad and the shows future credits.
@@HonestJunkie who that's good of him
They didn't know about the occupations of the other two at that time. The professor was originally a school teacher and Mary Anne was a maybe.

At 24 seconds you can see a flag at half staff. The filming for this scene was done the weekend of Kennedy's assassination.
+Perry Grant It appears to me to be nearly full staff.
huskyjerk It was half staff. It was filmed on November 22nd, 1963

I believe that this recording of the intro was made after the flags were put back the intro where they are half staff is in the pilot

My favorite opening theme song, there oughta be special Emmy category for Best Theme in a Comedy
Mr. Howell was hilarious always bragging about how rich he was! Love it ♥️
He would say Lovie if the natives capture us just give them our names and stock exchange numbers

This is one show that they SHOULD remake, right.
As much as I'd like to see that, I have to say NO. I saw the Reboot of the 1960s Lost In space and it was dreadful
Why didn't any of them check the weather apps on their phones. They could've possibly avoided this whole thing.
Phones? They didn't have phones then. lol
Dummy, this video is from the 1960s. The phones we have today didn’t exist yet.
@@bopup1461 Woooooooooosh
The exact day I was born.
Tim Walz looks like the skipper
They leave off the end when they sing 🎶 the proffessor and gilligan on gilligans
and the rest?!?!
Mr. Howell was a millionaire because he voiced Mr. Magoo
You can tell how much the production budget increased after season 1
Like I've been telling from UA-cam site to youtube site if the instead of said and the rest it would've been said as The Professor and Farm girl.
Well spoken.
I need Gilligan's Island - The E-X-1 and the Russians Have Landed FULL EPISODE
I need Gilligan's Island - Howell Industries goes bankrupt, then it turns out that it was POWELL INDUSTRIES NOT HOWELL INDUSTRIES - FULL EPISODE
Noted that Maryann wasn't mentioned in the song
Why didn’t the Howells have their own yacht, if they were that rich??

+daniel goulding It's definitely lowered.
daniel goulding You're wrong it is. Stop embarrassing yourself.
Agreed. Half staff would be below the top of the tree to the right. From looking at the mast, the flag is at 80% height
