TBS Crossfire Micro TX V2 - Teardown & Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 жов 2024
- So, today I am going over the new TBS Crossfire MicroTX v2.
I did not expect this tbh (keep in mind that the v1 was working just fine) but any advancements are more than welcome.
This new MicroTX v2 comes with a newly redesigned PCB, a more powerful RF amplifier IC and USB-C. Also from what TBS said, this new version has FCC and CE certifications witch means a great deal.
And probably many secret firmware options that we will discover in the future!

It's amazing how easy it seems watching your video but it is a really complicated work. Keep making this kind of technical videos. Cheers from Spain.
This is the only video I could find explaining you can remove the antenna cap and just swap it out. Thank you!
You said it's rated at 500mW but will go higher. How much higher? I heard Bardwell casually say 1000mW in his last livestream but I trust your technical analysis more.
I fucking love you man. Because instead of getting beat down by a full bead of solder around the shield ,you picked up wick and continued to mash on! Yes.
Hi livyu, thank you for the teardown!
Do you happen to know if there are any i2c pads on micro tx board so I can connect a small oled screen? Thanks!
Another question. If I wanted to add a heatsink, should I put it on the empty side opposite of the tin shield?
it would be interesting to see the breakdown of a full size crossfire tx.
it would be awesome if TBS had a normal form factor transmitter like Frsky, Radiomaster, Jumper...and not the junk they make for drones. I am sure it would match the same quality level.
Yeah, that'd be pretty nice. I have absolutely zero use or this controller style shit...
It would also be quite cool if they ever made internal Crossfire replacement boards for the commeon TXs like the X9D.
@@calibermix8159 imagine a new full size tx comes out... form factor tx16 or 9d or any good full size controller 😍😍
Quick question (as you seem to be a guy who knows his micro-electronics) do you know what LED chip is used on the Micro TX V2? I've found ws2812b, which is a four-pin LED but very similar in construction.
Yeah... find an rgb led in same size
@@LivyuFPV Sweet! So the wiring/voltage is pretty standard?
Hello!
TBS announced 1w output power with newest firmware.
How is it possible?
Thanks!
Same question here!
Love the changes, especially that top SMA bracket - looks like it will be stupidly easy to design a Tango 2 antenna holder for it if TBS doesn't already have one on the way. Gonna switch from TX Lite to this since I never use 2W anyway and the smaller ones are more convenient + lua scripts improved a lot since the early days.
That would be a downgrade..
@@smooth_ops2942 how exactly? I know what works for me, don't worry.
Thanks for doing this. Awesome to watch
Never disappoint, great video.
Love your videos great work
A recent firmware release advertises 1w output. I wonder if it would stress the amplifier unless you use it dynamically.
Could be, but tbs has a good ingineer so they must haved checked that.
@@LivyuFPVmicro tx v2....does it really output 1W, did anybody checked with rf meter....and what about the power supply to module? because the full size crsf requires external power supply to operate at 1W or more, then how does micro v2 will perform at 1W for a longer period of time......
@@umeshjadhav3326 I use 1W with my Tango2 pcbv3 but with dynamic power it rarely reach 1W even on long range unless the quad is powered off.
amazing. thank you for the teardown
Excellent video as always!
Awesome teardown I just want to point that I THINK I THINK they may be using the sky65364-11 that is also made for 800/900mhz... in that case the rating is 30.5db more closely to 1w
Not 1 w man 😂 not ramp le datasheet
what a master, thanks, i have de micro v1 and didnt know if the upgrade worth it but 500mw and wifi and bluetooth for the tbs fusion google module, i think that worth it for me.... thanks again
Really great what you do. Thank you!
TOP video as always! Good job
now it is capable of 1W, with the new firmware. And the chip is only rated @500mW ? I think i will leave it at 250. What do you think. I dont want it to be fried :-D
Absolute surgeon 🙏🏻
Also, I’d have to guess battery efficiency is going to be improved a la Tango 2 with the 868/915 LORA-specific amp (though I’m out for a walk and don’t have specs in front of me)
Great tear down! Thanks
Got one. As per lua script I can push it to 1w!
Livyu....I have both a micro v1 and v2. I can run my v1 no problems on my FlySky Nirvana NV14 with internal power mods however my radio shutdown with the v2. Does the v2 draw more power than the v1 when set to similar output power levels?
So, does the redesigned Tango2 pcbs also have the updated rf module?
Excellent work! I love this 👍👍🍺😍
Livyu, please do a tear down of a DJI air unit! I'm dying to know what voodoo black magic is in there!
I don't have one... but if i would have... for sure I would do one :)
There are plenty of videos of heatsink removal but none desolder the cans. I want to know if the microphone is inside one of the cans so it can be unobstructed or upgraded. Allegedly the radio can do 3500mW but DJI only allow 1200mW unlocked. Would be good to see if you can identify the RF chips.
Good. Good. I'm rubbing my hands together in anticipation already.
Hi Livyu, your work is very appreciated. I have a question. I have tbs Rx nano after the crash, antenna socket tears out. Can you solder the antenna directly to the plate? thank you
You can... i wanna do a video about that
@@LivyuFPV that was fast/. Many thanks 👍🏽🍻
이건 꼬 사고싶다 형제 영상 공유해줘서고마워👌🏻👌🏻😎
Hello, and thank you for your amazing video! Could I ask if the antenna connector is an SMA or an RP-SMA? Thanks in advance. F
I think sma
Wait, the micro TX has a Bluetooth antenna? Or is it WiFi? I didn't think it supported that
That’s really nice! Here’s to hoping the full size and RX’s get similar filtering/amps instead of the broad spectrum amps they have currently!
Fullsize has also a Skyworks amp (in the datasheet it says more than 2w capable :P)
Livyu FPV Weird, mine has a broadband 300MHz-3GHz amp so I can actually see several harmonics coming out of it... What batch is yours?
@@LivyuFPVhi there, excellent video. Can you be able to tell me the pinouts in this module. I need to know the ppm, gnd and vcc. It would be appreciated please help me out.
Quality stuff. TBS Crossfire also.
Brilliant. Thank you!
Very good video - do you think the new extension connector could have something to do with the immersionRC ghost (to be released)? The orqa has a provision of similar shape in the fpv connect upgrade board.
LOL, you are living under a rock? TBS and Immersion are not product buddies...
Livyu FPV lol, oh well then
What is the extension connector for and what are the pinouts, Livyu??
Can I replace the internal u.fl to sma cable with a normal pig tail? In my microTX the original cable snapped because the sma part was not locked by the casing and would spin freely until it broke. I just had a crossfire failsave after 30 meters :) I guess I'm doing something wrong since I have so much issues with Crossfire. I sometimes wish I didn't switch to it... But when it works it's awesome.
You said Bluetooth, does the ESP-12s have Bluetooth? Edit: saw your reply to another person. It support iOS and android apps, so I guess it’s possible.
thanks for nice review
5:13 it is not only for cooling but also for well grounding the RF section. By the way I wonder what is the SWR level for the RF transmitter and antenna and can we tweak it.
Obviously you can tweek swr based on antenna just need a swr meter that works on that frq. The can is mostly for emi shielding reasons and maybe for coolingm did I saymid only for cooling ?
hey, does anybody know if i can power the micro v2 from the usb port? i have the nirvana with weak power supply to bay pins.
I learned something today
:))
Will this product transmit telemetry over wifi (TBS cloud)?
Hi,I guess my unfiy pro32 5G8 rf amplifier is fried, do you konw the specification of the chip?
Very cool as always 👍
Hi do u know if it’s possible to mod 500mw also this version (like V1 version)? Cheers
Yeah, i have a lot of trouble with those metal cans and my 858d. Never thought about using the good ol solder wick! Thanks for the indirect help man!
Is it worth upgrading if you have the v1. Got mine not too long ago...
if you want more power sure :)
I find this really enjoyable to watch even though I wouldn’t dare try this myself,
I do have a question for you though, I’m using a futaba 7c 35mhz radio that I have converted to 2.4ghz using the frsky DHT hack module, this module uses just 3 wires to connect to the transmitter,
Would I be able to do the same with this crossfire module with a little hacking? I would like to continue using my transmitter as it’s in perfect working order but I would like to use Crossfire now instead of frsky,
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as my knowledge on this subject is very limited, thank you
damn, that's pretty cool
any way i can connet it to pyserial and use python to send data ?
great vid
Great video thank u.
Do I have to unscrew this plastic cover everytime I put my TX inside a bag? Is this supposed to be a feature?
A regulatory thing... Just break it off man.
hey i am trying to get inside the full size tx can you do another video on it i really want to see
Great info Thanks
So will the new filters clear up 1.3 video interference? Hope someone tests this out.
I am afraid that this type of filters are not notch filters... so no I don't think it will improve that much.
Oh Snap Nice 👍👍
@Livyu FPV So there's a nice hidden surprise of 500mW coming soon to the new Micro TX 😎 Well done getting that can off. Not an easy task but you did it like a pro and made it look easy. I guess TBS are doing their best to try and stop the average Joe messing with the circuitry under that can, but they clearly can't stop you 😁 I wonder if the new V2 mainboard for the Tango 2 also has the same surprise hiding inside it's RF can. I know a man who has the skills to find out 😀When are you planning to take a look? 😉
When I will receive one :)) PS: the can was soldered that good, for containing the RF, gain for compliance. And also on the factories, they cannot use leaded solder so all new equipment is with this dreaded lead-free which is a nightmare to heat up properly...
I have the larger one and never used it
Damn! I love your videos!
Thanks 👍
The datasheet Crossfire lite is best, not 2000 mw, Real 3100 mw
Do the ESP-12S really support Bluetooth?
Never checked... It should same freq... Not a big deal to have also bluetooth. But needs checking
@@LivyuFPV I think not. ESP-12s is based on esp8266, as far I know it only suport wifi b/g.
Trappy crying now
Be nice if you could buy one, no stock again.....
Looks very good, already got my new Ic Rf amplifier for my v1 500mW mod,
I need your help to do that mod, great solder skills.
My like #200 😉 and let me know if you are in my subscribers list or not.
Regards
Hi, I can guide you while doing it. But following my tutorial should be enough thought. Thanks!
Wait I can get my v1 to 500mw
@@grassfpv1876 Yes you can but only if you have soldering smd skills :P
@@NunoFlyer ya I saw that. Scares the bee Jesus outta me. I guess ill just buy a full size lol
ESP-12S is wifi only. No Bluetooth.
yeap, my bad :)
@@LivyuFPV no worries, happens. your reviews are great!
Caps in the RF section look yellowish, were they stressed by heat at factory?
no man... some caps are brownish yellowish(over 1nF) and the white ones are under 1nF usually in the low pF values. I never ever saw ceramic caps changing color... they only crack :)) And also my camera color representation might be off... but i saw only brown and white caps there...
If you bought this and are using it with a Taranis X9D+, make sure you use the latest beta firmware (4.03).
The official release contains a bug, which causes the module to output 25mW at all times.

Antenna mounting is the stupidest I've ever known. v3 version will have a soldered antenna ??? : D: D: D
I guess they have to comply or not get certified. But thankfully they maliciously complied so its within the letter of the law but not the spirit? but seriously that is a stupid rule.
Covering sma is stupid man i have quads with varying polarisation. So thAts a real pain wow wtf
Noisy _boi_fpv _ Because they have to comply with FCC requirement as mentioned in this video.
Just take the 2 screws out, cut off the plastic cover and you're done? Or even use your old antenna...
