Hello Nico, Thank you for your link, I just love the old machinery of yesteryear, I also wondered about that lone screw and the only thing I could see it being used for would be as a stop when coming up to a stepped face, it seems from my observation that the tip is machined to erase the threads, but it also seems that it is mushroomed perhaps it also protects the leadscrew nut auto feed mechanism from damage, Thank you again, Edmund.........Alberta,
Dag Nico, ik heb net ook zo'n machientje opgeknapt. De lange hefboom en de aansluitende korte schakel ontbraken, maar die heb ik nu netjes nagemaakt. Alhoewel er op de voedingsspil een getand wiel zit (los, geen spie), is er geen automatische voeding. In de korte gleuf bovenaan de sterke arm zit niets. Nooit geweest ook, want de gaten in het vlakje aan de rechterkant, zijn er ook niet. Zou u mij kunnen helpen de (blijkbaar optionele ?) automatische voeding te construeren ? Foto's, schetsjes, afmetingen ? Dank bij voorbaat !

Hi there I have this shaper - can you help me identify the purpose of the screw thread in the bed on the right hand side of the machine? It's the piece just touching the bottom the frame at 0:12 - is it for a carriage stop attachment or something similar?
The shaper can be used in 2 ways : The t-slotted table can be used to clamp the workpiece, as shown in the video. But this table was an optional extra. The alternative way to use is to take the machine on its own (without the table) and clamp it in a large vise, together with the workpiece. Adjustment then can be extremely difficult, because slackening the vise would mean that the shaper also tilts ! Therefore the screw : to clamp the shaper firmly onto one side of the vise. Then the workpiece can be adjusted independently of the shaper.
Dag Nico, nog een kleine opmerking op je video : je machientje geeft voeding (het handwiel draait) als het mes naar voor komt. Dat klopt niet ... De voeding moet zijn op de terugkerende slag !
