- Rendering Methods Explained: Raycasting
In this series, I'll give my best efforts to explain all kinds of rendering techniques in the least amount of time possible, while still giving a decent idea about how it works.
This is the second video and we're talking about how Raycasting was used in older games to simulate a 3D environment without actual 3D data. Watch the video to learn how it works and comment if you have any questions!
Stay tuned to learn about the upcoming ones :) - Фільми й анімація
Just wanted to chime in and say that DOOM and DOOM 2 don't exactly use ray casting, they use Binary Space Partitioning, which from my understanding is how they split the level into sectors and the properties of those sectors. I'm not too knowledgeable on this subject, so I can't speak on it in detail. It is really neat how much more depth DOOM has over Wolfenstein 3D due it's use of BSP and map sectors
Yess! They started off with using the same engine they used for Wolfenstein 3D, but as more complex levels were created that caused problems with the engine, their lead programmer began to use BSP to reduce the portion of the level that the player could see at a given time. So at the end, they did have the technical 2.5D limitations as with raycasting, but it went on to become something different.
Sorry for all the confusion- I'll clear it up for everyone if I make a video on BSP :)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
@RenderRides Yeah, I'd love to see you talk about it! DOOM is one of my favorite shooters, both for its vanilla gameplay and ability to be modified. It's crazy to think how much impact id software had over gaming with Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, and especially Quake.
Talking about this makes me wanna try my hand at DOOM mapping again...
Thanks for the information.
Always happy to help ^^
I'm loving these shorts buddy.
Thank you so much man!
This reminds me I need to study the ray cast node in blender. Love your video!
Thank you so much- I actually used the raycast node for the animation too haha!
@@RenderRides awesome
great video
Thank you!
How do they fix the fish eye tho ?
Someone made a raycast engine in factorio combinators
Brilliant 😂
The question is answered a 2ds can run doom
ANYTHING can run Doom 🙇
@@RenderRides I know i just had to make the joke
