Octopath Traveler 2 is quite literally a masterpiece. This game was made with so much love and passion on all fronts. Song of Hope is arguably my favorite track on Octopath Traveler 2. It plays specifically for the last boss of the dancer’s story, and it’s actually her theme but with vocals and some slight guitar. I can never resist head bobbing to that.

This is misinformation and is not the case. (Source: booklets that come with the physical CDs of both of these soundtracks and include full credits for every vocalist/instrumentalist). As similar as the vocalists are, and I think God-Shattering Star is a clear inspiration, they're not the same singer. Toshiaki Murakami is the singer in Vide the Wicked/Those Who Deny the Dawn, while the one in GSS is Takashi Baba. Hope this clears things up.

Octopath is a game series that really excels with leitmotifs. Listening to the progression in each characters themes is so fun! Every character has a normal theme, pre battle theme, and final boss theme. For example we’ve got “osvold the scholar” (normal theme) “In pursuit of revenge” (pre-boss battle theme) “The journey for revenge ends” (osvold final boss theme)

As one of the smaller-than-you’d-think crowd who defended Octopath 1 (unsuccessfully) from the 6/10 allegations, the fact that Octopath 2 is such a genuine masterpiece on all fronts made my heart soar. 2023 was such a magical year dude EDIT: Look you heard the music Octopath 1 isn’t exactly bad, it’s just… a little grindy and barebones as a game. Rough sell for anyone who can’t stomach hard level gating
With octopath 1 they tried somthing new and while good it fell flat end game while still being a good game. octopath 2 however took everything bad and fixed it while taking the good and making it even better
why do people say its grindy? ive played through the game like 5 or 6 times and ive never really felt the need to grind beyond the occasional jp hunt? maybe its the ridiculous level gap between chapters 2 and 3, but still, that goes away if youre doing the other character's chapters

Glad to see Octopath getting the attention it deserves. It was my game of the year 2023^-^ Though I wonder: Why was there not a single "(Night)" track in here? One of the biggest mechanics in this game specificly is the controllable night and day cycle changing most themes between night and day (hence the "(Day)" in a lot of these chosen titles). I know that the day themes are more popular but to just neglect the night themes feels so odd to me...unless it's a setup for an Octo-part 2 night theme boogaloo in which case, nevermind all that ("Beyond the Sands(Night)" was one my favorite "fullstop and listen" moment in this game). Also on a sidenote that has nothing to do with the video, but the game: Octopath 1 slander, feels the same to me as BotW or FE:3H slander after their sequels. I sorta get where it's coming from, but the games would not be here without their prequels and in my opinion that should be respected a lot more. Just because they aren't Retro yet, doesn't mean we shouldn't consider what they did right in their prime time. Octopath 1 has an incredible OST and HD-2D has hit the Square and just generally the RPG scene like a Draco Meteor. It's insane to me that some people feel like it's a hottake to like Octopath Traveler 1, because it really should not be the case. Octopath Traveler II has an infinitely more balanced endgame than I, and improved upon the first game in pretty much every aspect. I cannot recommend the second one enough.

Absolutely my personal game of the year of 2023.
Experiencing these songs with the characters, story, and visuals elevates them beyond words. They flow with the context of the game beautifully.
This and Persona are one of the few games I spend way too much time not playing because I'm just sitting, listening to the music.

Not gonna kidding, I bursted to cry the first time I heard Critical Clash 2 in the game as Osvald and escaped the prison island, it was just too epic.
