Thank you for sharing this, Dennis! I think on my next trip to England, I definitely need to visit York! I found that there is a lot more to England than I realized , and you can't see everything in one visit.
Did you really think you could see everything England has to offer in just one visit? Please tell me that you didn't, really! You can't even see all that the City of York has to offer in just one visit, however long that would be! You can live for a hundred years in England and still only get to see a mere fraction of its many delights and things of great interest and infinite variety, whatever your taste and desire may be. I spent my honeymoon with my civil partner in York....and yes, it only took a few strides to walk the length of Whip Ma Whop Ma Gate. Judy Dench has a special affection for York - it's her home town and she was born there...so was Dick Turpin (highwayman 18th century style) and so was Guy Ffawkes (who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament with gunpowder in 1605.
have walked many of these old lanes whilst at university there...for five years....Warwick was an interesting character...sad to say he died in December2015.....
Yes, that is one of my classic videos of York, from 1995. Some parts of the center have not changed in a long time. You can find my more recent York vids here: ua-cam.com/play/PLke86NFI6R8yykx09YVB0S7f90E4OeULd.html and more of the old ones here: ua-cam.com/play/PLke86NFI6R8yykx09YVB0S7f90E4OeULd.html
@@denniscallan It is nice to see a bit of nostalgia. I remember visiting in the 60s or the 70s as a child. The centre is still much the same. I went last year.
1995 York City Centre, I never thought the large 'Splash Palace' toilets would ever be demolished however visitors today would be forgiven for not knowing the building was ever there.
Funny how most of us do not know the origins of the word shambles and what it really means and we think it's simply a place that's broken down or a chaotic mess but we don't realize it's speaking of maybe looking at a lot of Gory meat and organs and animal parts
+Lyss G Looks like lens flare, from the light. Our guide, Warwick, liked to poke fun at ghost walking tours :) He said, "we are not in competition: I don't tell ghost stories and they don't tell the truth."
I actually enjoyed listening to this guy, very knowledgeable, i live not far from york, fantastic place..
The late great Warwick Burton sadly missed… A great video thanks for sharing
That is such a shame he was brilliant. I would have loved a tour with him.
Me also. When did he pass away?
I imagine this video was made in 1994!?
That is so sad, what a brilliant and personable man. I would die to take a tour of his
What a fantastic little tour.
Thanks very much for this! Cheers from St. Louis, MO.
This is great!
loved it, thank you!
Haha..he seemed a nice guy. I am York resident and i love my home City..! Thank you for the video :-)
+Lyss G Warwick was a wonderful person, smart, funny, generous. So sorry he passed away in late 2015.
Bless him. Good memories for you to hold.
Warwick burton talks of its still legal today to kill a scotsman with a crossbow (IM SCOTTISH) r.i.p. warwick

You might be able to see "everything" in England if your visit lasts about fifty years. I think you were joking with that comment, though. Good one !

Really? What happened? He didn't look old. I took the tour in 2014 and it was led by a fellow named John. Very entertaining.
I just did a Google search and read about his death.
What a funny dialect! 😄
I heard that this Warwick Burton gentleman was considered a legend and saw some comments where are they said he is now dead
yes Warwick died bless him rest in peace a well respected man
What year is this from? Im from york and i remember the town centre looking like this when i was very young

Looking at some of the clothes and cars...when was this filmed? I’m thinking 1990’s
I think 2013 (when it was published) going by the date on the leaflet he showed at the end.
@@juliebrooke6099 Ah! Well spotted! Thanks 😊

how do you know that this was filmed in 1990s ? it could be late 1980s or late 1990s
Is this where the saying "It's a shambles" came from? Everything which way..
Yes it was.

Lovely township. Typical of British to carry umbrella everywhere they go.
Ghost @ 2.50…!! No bug could fly that fast...it zipped by so fast..!!!
It's a bug on the lens that then flies off 🐝. Good eyes though 👍
dick Turpin was not born in in York
+Hairy Toes dick Turpin was hanged in York and buried in York his grave you can still see today
His accent is dreadful.
Simondo81 hes from somerset
Your attitude is dreadful
@@nickfantini1555 And you have based that assumption on one comment. Well done you 👏 👍
