I consider it more like, "hey, you like splinter cell. thanks for buying our game. heres a beta included with the splinter cell you bought to try out. If you like it you can also buy ghost recon"
Phil, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell are all Tom Clancy. You said "I didn't know this game had that Beta" that's exactly what they're going for. People will buy the game and find out about the beta, just like you. And then the people that want the Beta will buy it aswell.
I just received my copy, yeah the covert is the same, only the GR icon is on the left of the front cover. When i opened the case though, the flyer about GR was BEHIND the booklet of Splinter Cell, so it was probably just a mistake with yours...big deal, right?
hey phil... the reason why the included the beta on the cover is because both Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon are Tom Clancy games... they're just trying to publicize
Look at another way. The beta is included so people who buy splinter cell will look at the beta and if they like it they will buy ghost recon when it comes out. Its abit like inside advertising. I dont think they included the beta just to sell more copies. Splinter cell is good enough to move copies.
They include these goodies into games, because there are enough sheeps who fall for it, simple as that. That's the marketing, give them some free shit and they become consumer zombies.
They seriously have to stop that. A lot of companies seem to be doing that a lot now. It only shows they don't have confidence people will buy the game without knowing about beta included. Real real dumb.
>I've never played a splinter cell before DOn't worry, this is nothing like a Spliter Cell, it's much, MUCH worse, with only like a 5 hour single player.
@silverboltion yah, they first announced the game in late 2007/2008, showed a beta at E3 2008 and then scrapped the whole thing and started from scratch. They didn't want to compete with Assassins Creed which game out in late 2008 when Conviction was supposed to be released. I personally thing this new Conviction looks awesome and can't wait to play it!
Well, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon are both by Tom Clancy/ubisoft, so I don't see why you're raging (no offense intended) about how they're advertising the beta of a game that is by the same developer and under the same title (Tom Clancy). It makes perfect sense to me, Phil.
Lol when you said "are people really gonna buy this game because it has the GR beta in it!?" I immediately thought ...yeah, the only reason crackdown sold so many copies was because of Halo 3. It just happened that Crackdown turned out pretty good.
Phil, I agree with you about the whole thing, but Ghost Recon is also Tom Clancy which is probably why it's included. but yeah, pretty lame how it's on the cover and all. It should be a sticker on the wrapping of the game if anything. also, does anyone know if it will be coming out for PS3 eventually?
Ghost Recon is apart of the Tom Clancy franchise. I think it's a legit tactic to advertise other games that you construct on a current title you've just developed.
I preordered this game, and today I went to pick it up, but the gamestop in my area got a shipment of damaged discs, and none of the splinter cells will read on a console, so I have to wait another few days to play this. Its fucking BULLSHIT.
are you seriously pissed of by an advertisment, it would be different if they just threw it in without telling you and actually they are related because they are both tom clancy and they are both Ubisoft, this is probably the dumbest complaint ive heard yet
lol well Phil, I've gotta say I've been following the news on this game somewhat closely and I (just like you) had no knowledge that this game included the beta for "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier" until watching your unboxing. Your rant is well received but mostly unprovoked in this case.
@silverboltion Ubisoft is trying to sell more because of the long production cycle. I think I saw that they ended up spend almost as much as most studio's spend on 2 games. Thats why their putting so much emphasis on the Ghost Recon Beta.
awhhh this is bulll!!!!!!! one of my other subs already played it so i know whathappens but playing with phil might make it more interesting cause there was no commentary and it was boring so im sure youll sppice it up PHIL
Awesome, I'm gonna watch this playthrough. And I agree with you on the whole beta thing, but I don't think it's THAT retarded, nor does it piss me off. Still, good point there.
i see your point phil but at the end of the day game developers are gonna do what they can to get more copies sold and in the many ways they can do that this is just one of them
@swerorc Did I say he was complaining about the beta? Don't put words in my mouth. I don't think anything is wrong with advertising the beta, its an extra incentive to buy the game, why not?
@phoLegit There is no useful reason for this implementation. Microsoft changed the design of the game boxes because they thought that this kind looked better. It's a really small thing though and you shouldn't let it bother you. This will not scratch the disc or anything so the only harm is that you may think its an eyesore.
2:33 the only thing they have in common really is that they are Clancy series'. I like both but I was also disappointed that they had it on the box art
OH MY GOD Phil I mean I love you're videos an all but you're actually complaining about getting extra with your game and they're advertising it because its made by tom clancy and ubisoft
Ghost Recon actually does have something to do with Splinter Cell. (Tom Clancy) Can't wait for the playthrough and to see how the game is. I'm still sorta deciding whether to buy this or another game. And I also heard this game is only 5 hours long at most which is pretty disappointing, especially when Ubisoft took sooo long making this game. (3-4 years I believe?)
Phil on your upcoming play through of SC-C don't start it yet if you are already angry and not relaxed and can enjoy the game then don't bother playing the game yet simmer down and watch some television and drink a beer just relax I know the beta is a dick move when its advertised.
This game will in all likelyhood come to the PS3. This game was supposed to be a major rival to MGS4 and be released in 2008 and as you can see Ubisoft and Microsoft drop the ball on that, lol. Also, I don't see what the problem is. Extra incentive to buy the game, why not? InFamous had the Uncharted 2 beta in it, I didn't hear you complaining then.
Phil havnt u realized yet tht gaming compaines only want money now a days. They don't give to shits if the game is unrelated they're just trying to find a way to make a couple extra pennies.
This game is a huge disappointment to me. It's alot of fun but when a game is in development for this long, it needs to get more then an 8 on gamespot.
Now, THIS is how you do an unboxing, not the so called "unboxing" Phil did years later with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
I think that they are required by law to say that the beta is included in the game, since they have to credit the people that made it in some way.
Its funny how he throws the beta code. Knowing when it comes out he will be the first to play it lol.
Ubisoft had plenty of confidence in this game they would never screw up there own a list series
hola lol
Hope this playthrough will be great!
i have a feeling that phil will get frustrated from all the enemies and alarms going off when he's trying to be sneaky lol
awesome phil! i can't wait to follow this series!!
I'm buying it for the Beta. :P
Ubisoft said that the tom clancy games would have story tie ins with eachother in the new games
Good luck phil, hopefully this fps will surpass traditional standards >_>
If only Phil had a PC so he could tell them about their DRM.
You'll love it Phil. The series has always pleased me and I'm alot like you, so I know you'll love it.
I consider it more like, "hey, you like splinter cell. thanks for buying our game. heres a beta included with the splinter cell you bought to try out. If you like it you can also buy ghost recon"
No, there are two ways to go: You can get spotted and kill everyone, or be stealthy and kill everyone. Those are your two options
I think you will like this game Phil. I have been a fan of Splinter Cell games. Looking forward to your play though.
I just got this game today :)
But I prefer enjoying your talkthrough first LOL
This new Splinter Cell is even better than Metal Gear Solid.
In my opinion anyway.
>DSP
>Gamer
Does not compute.
I remember these days, the days phi was more loved by people. Now everyone hates him cuz he’s became such a bleh. Sad man, u fell so hard
DSP's fav sentence: "This game is retarded" and other variations of the phrase
ladies and gentlemen, place your bets please. Is Phil really going to play really sneaky or is he going to go guns blazing?
Phil, if you're a Ghost Recon fan, you're a Tom Clancy fan, and Splinter Cell is a big series in the Tom Clancy universe. It's not really a big deal.
Phil, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell are all Tom Clancy. You said "I didn't know this game had that Beta" that's exactly what they're going for. People will buy the game and find out about the beta, just like you. And then the people that want the Beta will buy it aswell.
looking forward to this. this is gonna be epic :D
I just received my copy, yeah the covert is the same, only the GR icon is on the left of the front cover. When i opened the case though, the flyer about GR was BEHIND the booklet of Splinter Cell, so it was probably just a mistake with yours...big deal, right?

I dont think they included the beta just to sell more copies. Splinter cell is good enough to move copies.
it wasn't ubisoft fault it was the company tom clancy's idea to put that there
They include these goodies into games, because there are enough sheeps who fall for it, simple as that. That's the marketing, give them some free shit and they become consumer zombies.
They put it in there FOR that reason to get more people to buy the game not only that but to get people to buy the game when it comes out its business
Are you going to at least try the Ghost reckon Beta
They seriously have to stop that. A lot of companies seem to be doing that a lot now. It only shows they don't have confidence people will buy the game without knowing about beta included. Real real dumb.
>I've never played a splinter cell before
DOn't worry, this is nothing like a Spliter Cell, it's much, MUCH worse, with only like a 5 hour single player.
phil did you preorder splinter cell conviction because if you did you get a spas-12 silencer if you preorder it thought that was pretty cool
If you havnt played a splinter cell game, you havnt played games
@silverboltion yah, they first announced the game in late 2007/2008, showed a beta at E3 2008 and then scrapped the whole thing and started from scratch. They didn't want to compete with Assassins Creed which game out in late 2008 when Conviction was supposed to be released. I personally thing this new Conviction looks awesome and can't wait to play it!
"Get that shit outta here, its fucking retarded". lol epic, phil is so funny lol.
Dude you are so right. Selling a game and posting a beta right on the cover.
Woo! He's back!
Maybe the companies are so cheap they use a black and white printer, instead of getting a colored printer, who knows
have fun on the game phil!
but why always a day before i have a big test =(,..
I admit I bought Crackdown for the Halo 3 Beta but then I discovered that Crackdown is actually pretty good. I'm looking forward to the second.
i see. cant wait till the videos are up :D
this should be called ghost recon rant lol
i like how people had these ghost recon beta codes for about 2 years haahha
you and jon rambo will enijoy spinter cell co-op
Ghost Recon is apart of the Tom Clancy franchise. I think it's a legit tactic to advertise other games that you construct on a current title you've just developed.
EA never puts effort in their instruction books. Half of the EA games I've gotten only had like 8 pages.
It's not a big deal Phil chill man nice vid
all about being stealth, years of playin all of them
Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell are both by Tom Clancy and both developed by Ubisoft.
I agree Phil. I had to buy ODST to play the Reachbeta . But Bungie didn't explain how to get the beta specifically. And I sold it.
no, no... wait, you are wrong, Tom Clancy wrote the book Ghost Recon as well as Splinter Cell, so the beta kinda has it's place there...
i makes sence for them to advertise the beta because the game beta is made by the same company
I preordered this game, and today I went to pick it up, but the gamestop in my area got a shipment of damaged discs, and none of the splinter cells will read on a console, so I have to wait another few days to play this. Its fucking BULLSHIT.
It's funny how people bought crackdown JUST for the halo 3 beta yet it won so many awards(great game) but good argument Phil keep up the good videos
I understand that Phil's mad, but it's not stupid...it's just marketing, unfortunately.
RAGE QUIT - splintercell conviction unboxing
Geez who cares Phil, just enjoy the beta. I think Phil is pissed because now he can't trade the game in right after he beats it.
"Thats fuckin retaaarrhahahahahahrdeddd dude!" XD
actually splinter cell and ghost recon is in the same universe of the games
are you seriously pissed of by an advertisment, it would be different if they just threw it in without telling you and actually they are related because they are both tom clancy and they are both Ubisoft, this is probably the dumbest complaint ive heard yet
totally agree with u phil, they shouldnt be putting that beta sticker on the front
lol well Phil, I've gotta say I've been following the news on this game somewhat closely and I (just like you) had no knowledge that this game included the beta for "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier" until watching your unboxing. Your rant is well received but mostly unprovoked in this case.
I'm about to pick that up today, actually in a few minutes!
@silverboltion
Ubisoft is trying to sell more because of the long production cycle. I think I saw that they ended up spend almost as much as most studio's spend on 2 games. Thats why their putting so much emphasis on the Ghost Recon Beta.
They're both Tom Clancy, but yes, you're right.
@DKAndrewY the reach beta is with ODST. When the beta comes out you would get an update and you would be able to play it. Oh well.
awhhh this is bulll!!!!!!! one of my other subs already played it so i know whathappens but playing with phil might make it more interesting cause there was no commentary and it was boring so im sure youll sppice it up PHIL
First! Don't play it varied, just do it stealthily ;) Keep up the good work etc :)
same thing happend with odst, they prcticly made you have to buy it, if you wanted recon, if you wanted reach betta, if you wanted maps
Awesome, I'm gonna watch this playthrough. And I agree with you on the whole beta thing, but I don't think it's THAT retarded, nor does it piss me off. Still, good point there.
i see your point phil but at the end of the day game developers are gonna do what they can to get more copies sold and in the many ways they can do that this is just one of them
@BioGamingLP doyou have a example of a "bad port" as it were cuzz i dont know what one is
@swerorc Did I say he was complaining about the beta? Don't put words in my mouth. I don't think anything is wrong with advertising the beta, its an extra incentive to buy the game, why not?
it would be funny is splinter cell conviction was an april fools joke and all the disk had was the ghost recon demo lol
Anyone here in late 2024?
@phoLegit
There is no useful reason for this implementation.
I like both but I was also disappointed that they had it on the box art
cant wait to see the playthrough of this!!!! :D
@tray839 well crackdown and odst are both from microsoft game studios
yes, its stupid to make a larger profit by displaying an icon that allows people to be happy to get a beta to a great game. yes its incredibly stupid
mowambo says DSF THIS IS TO EASY
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS sweet !!!! this is gona be awsome !!!
Phil on your upcoming play through of SC-C don't start it yet if you are already angry and not relaxed and can enjoy the game then don't bother playing the game yet simmer down and watch some television and drink a beer just relax I know the beta is a dick move when its advertised.
looking forward to it. =)
well this has been a pleasant unboxing. lol
I think previous Tom Clancy games have done the beta idea. I'm pretty sure there was a beta key for End War if you bought Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
Phil havnt u realized yet tht gaming compaines only want money now a days. They don't give to shits if the game is unrelated they're just trying to find a way to make a couple extra pennies.
i thought the beta was a nice added unexpected bonus.....
You may have to play this game when you aren't on xbl because mine keeps freezing on the second mission if i am connected to xbl.
oh no... not a Tam Clany's Ghost Recon beta in a Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
wait so did u evan try the ghost recon beta
This game is a huge disappointment to me. It's alot of fun but when a game is in development for this long, it needs to get more then an 8 on gamespot.
