  • Here in SE Minnesota we were treated to clear skies and at 9pm local time we watched Mars disappear behind the moon and reappear about an hour later.
It was a cold viewing with temperatures in the mid teens (F) which played havoc with my 200-600mm lens. I should have allowed the lens to acclimate to the cold temperatures before the event began as focus changed as the lens cooled down.
By the end of the show, the lens stabilized and I was able to get better focus on the moon and Mars.
The footage was taken in 8k with the Sony A1, then reduced to 4k in post-production.
Footage in this video was sped up 2x.

Is the earth reflected on the moon ?

Is the Earth's light reflected off of the moon? Do you think the Earth glows? Genuine question.
Speaking of light being reflected off of the moon, that's what the general consensus is regarding moonlight. They say that the sun's light is actually reflected off of the moon, and that's what makes moonlight. They say moonlight is not actually radiated from the moon itself, it is just reflected sunlight.
If the moon glows so strong as to create all that moonlight, but it is actually all coming from sun light, it is strange the moon never ever glares. There is never a concentration of sunlight in one spot. The moon seems to be perfectly, uniformly lit up. Don't spheres have a reputation for interacting with a lot of light in one concentrated spot? That's why we see glare in other people's eyeballs, frequently depicted in photographs and artwork. Because eyes are ball/spheres.
Where is any glare on the moon? Am I supposed to believe there's literally never ever any glare on the moon, despite the fact it's a sphere and should therefore be ready to emit or reflect at least a bit of glare sometimes?
